Customer Reviews of Omron HJ-150 Hip Pedometer

Customer Review: Amazing Little Device
Summary: 5 Stars

This hip-pedometer is by far the best I've ever owned. My previous pedometers lacked accuracy and seemed very flaky (they were lagging in technology, which may not be a bad thing but in this case was, as they were inaccurate to sometimes a large degree). This pedometer's "counting" mechanism seems to be a bit more advanced as it is not simply a small ball moving inside the pedometer - There is no "clicking" sound as it counts.

The reset feature is the most helpful feature to me. There is no reset button on the device, so there cannot be any accidental reset of your total steps. This was a problem for me with my other pedometers. This device simply resets itself at midnight, every day (it contains a digital clock on its screen, which is also pretty handy). Also, it does not accidentally count ordinary movements as steps - it does this by only counting consecutive movement that has maintained for at least 4 seconds. After 4 seconds, it continues the count until your movement has stopped. If the movement is less than 4 seconds long, it simply displays that no steps were taken.

All in all, this pedometer is VERY solid. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in an accurate pedometer with no reset button.

Customer Review: If you want a good basic pedometer, this one is fine.

I originally bought the more expensive version of this Omicron pedometer but found that trying to measure the length of my stride, decide on calorie information, etc. and then to set the thing, was very complicated. My friends also tried and couldn't do it. I finally threw it away. I couldn't return it to Amazon because it came in plastic packaging that has to be destroyed to get the item out. I kept the battery and strap it came with. Then I bought this one, the cheapest model. It arrived with a dead battery which I replaced with the original. It only measures steps and tells the time, saving the information for a week and resetting itself at midnight for the next day. It's very simple to set and just tells me how many steps I've walked - which is all I want to know anyway. The clip seems secure but it has a little hole at the top through which I strung the strap from the other one to enable more secure attachment to the belt loops on my slacks. A narrow ribbon would do just as well. I like this item, use it every day and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get up off the couch, take a stroll and look with satisfaction at how far they have walked. 2,000 steps = approximately 1 mile. Happy walking!

Customer Review: Excellent Pedometer - Great Value
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi,

I bought this pedometer along with a Omron scale and took advantage of the $10 discount...which in essence drops the price of this to a few bucks.

I have just started to adjust my lifestyle in terms of eating and exercise and therefore bought a new scale to monitor my weight. When purchasing that I saw this Pedometer and the $10 discount...so I figured I would eventually want one anyway since I am starting to use the treadmill...and considering that I have gadget envy...why not add another attachment to my hip.

The unit is very easy to setup and takes only a few moments to set the time and date. Once completed you are able to go back a few days to check the history....it will show you how many steps you took 1 day ago, 2 days ago, etc etc.... It helps you keep track of your progress....for me its a motivational tool. If I did 10,000 yesterday and 12,000 today then I know I am headed in the right direction.

5/5 - Great Value, Great Build Quality, and Excellent Software.

Customer Review: Great basic pedometer

Design is very comfortable to wear on the hip. No clicking sound is a nice feature. I like that it has a clock on it and it automatically resets to zero after midnight. No more having to remember to reset the counter. The 6-days before memory feature is great for those who are in step competitions or tracking for programs because you don't have to remember to write the number down/record it every day, since the pedometer stores a week's worth of numbers. Drawbacks: the sensor must be aligned properly to count steps. It does not count incidental steps - you must be walking for more than 4 seconds for it to begin counting. So in reality you are probably taking way more steps than this records, and this is not a good pedometer for those interested in counting steps they take around the house/going about daily business. It will not accurately capture all of those. The benefit is that you will end up taking more than 10,000 steps to make the pedometer read 10,000. I'm very happy with it for the price however.

Customer Review: Great entry-level pedometer

I bought two of these, one for me and one for my wife so we could try to reach 10,000 steps a day. The shape is smooth and easy to wear so it won't snag on clothing or furniture and the clip is wide/strong enough to clip onto any clothing or belts. I love that it resets the counter each day at midnight though that might be a problem if your a nurse or doctor or someone who works 3rd shift. I would suggest getting the black version as it would blend into your wardrobe better if your a business professional. I tried to paint mine with that Krylon plastic fusion and it's starting to come off. Also, be aware that this is the low end model and it only counts steps. I would highly recommend spending the extra two bucks and getting the the HJ-151 that counts steps AND measures distance. My wife and I wore ours to Disney World last week and we averaged about 25,000+ steps a day! I would LOVE to know how many miles that is.
