Customer Reviews of Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Health Management Software

Customer Review: Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned and used several pedometers in the past, but this is by far the best one that I have had. I also have the OmronŽ HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Omron Health Management Software and I can track my blood pressure and my aerobic walking on the same chart.

It is easy to use and set up and when I go for my annual physical I can just print out a file and give it to my physician so that he can see where my blood pressure has been over any given period of time and how regular my walking routine has been.

The program allows me to view my walking in several different screen views and also a combination screen with both pedometer and blood pressure readings. They both can be set up for a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly view to show trends over a period of time.

I have the program on both my desk top as well as my laptop for when I am away from home I can download my reading from either the pedometer or the blood pressure meter or both.

I had gone through two or three pedometers this year before I purchased the Omron HJ-720ITC pocket pedometer. They would usually fall off my belt and break of sometimes even get lost.

The Omron HJ-720ITC pocket pedometer allows me to keep it safely in my pocket and still gives me the readings that I want. A great investment for anyone who is serious about keeping track of their walking.

My wife even had me buy one for her so that she could keep track of her walking. She has her information on her desktop and we both can use the laptop because the program allows for several users to keep track of their progress.

If something ever happened to this one I am sure that I would be at a loss until I could buy myself another one.

Customer Review: Works great, needs better clip and safety strap
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a fairly well-designed product that works great overall. It tracks steps well but it only starts counting after a few seconds so you have to walk a little ways before those initial steps are counted. The software works great and is easy to use and downloads everything quickly. I like how it keeps track of everything over time and has bar graphs for the day, week, month, or year. The plastic on the face seems to be pretty tough because I've only got one small scratch so far and I use this thing every day and during soccer games, volleyball games, bike riding, etc. It gets banged around a lot and has held up well.

The only problem I've had so far is that the safety clip broke after about 6 months. The clip is a little flimsy and if you are snapping it to anything with thickness it is going to break. I managed to superglue mine back together and so far it is still holding. Also, the belt clip could use a stronger spring because with heavy activity and anything bumping it the unit will pop off quite a bit. You really need to use the safety clip and unfortunately the safety clip breaks over time. Hopefully others will have good luck gluing it. The unit itself is extremely sturdy and if you can throw it in a pocket that is the best way to use it.

My battery lasted almost 6 months which is plenty. Overall it's a great pedometer that I would purchase again if I needed to.

UPDATE:

I purchased the following safety leash to replace the one on mine that broke. I highly recommend it, it's sturdier with a metal clip and it's cheap.

Safety Leash for Pedometer (1) Unit. Helps Save Pedometers From Loss

Customer Review: Excellent Value
Summary: 5 Stars

I had to admit that I was a little bit skeptical after reading so many positive reviews, but everyone is dead on the money. This is an EXCEPTIONAL pedometer. I have tested its step-counting accuracy on numerous occasions and the largest error that I have observed was 2%. The manual states that its accuracy is within +/- 5%, so it certianly exceeded my expectations.

It counts steps and even has separate tracking for aerobic workouts which is defined as walking continuously for more than 10 minutes and/or walking at a rate of 120 steps/minute. It also keeps track of the calories your burn and shows the equivalent grams of fat of those burned calories. It also measures the distance that you walk but, as other reviewers have noted, it's probably best to walk a measured distance several times to get the most accurate "average" stride distance for your own personalization (I believe that you can set your stride from 1'-0" to 4'-0", in 1" increments).

In addition, what do you get for $30? Well, you get the Health Management Software which is a package that not only integrates pedometer data, but blood pressure data as well should you opt to purchase that through Omron (sold separately). It's pretty neat because it will keep track of your steps (both aerobic and non-aerobic) and display the information in any number of ways (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.). If you want, you can even set goals for yourself and see if you achieve them!

This is definitely a huge 5-star product. This pedometer is so much better than its nearest competitor for $10 less, especially the very weak pedometer offerings that you find at Sports Authority or Big 5 Sports. I would highly recommend it as part of your exercise regimen.

Customer Review: Excellent Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Omron Pocket Pedometer after reading the reviews of others. I felt that if so many people and Consumer Reports had such a favorable review of this item, I would try it myself. Well, I can tell you that I am extremely happy with this product. I love the fact that it can separate the Aerobic steps from the regular steps that you take. I also put it to the test as far as the Aerobic steps. I had my Pedometer on when I did my workout on my Stair Climber. After my workout, I compared the total Aerobic steps on both. The count on the Pedometer was almost exact with the count on the Stair Climber (the Stair Climber total count was slightly off due to low battery). I was amazed, because I had never owned a Pedometer that performed so accurately. I have been singing it praises ever since. I wear it every day, and I love it. The only problem that I have (like some others who have purchased this product), is that the Belt Clip in not long enough and does not stay on your belt or pants. If not for the Security Strap, I would have lost or broken my Pedometer within the first week of wearing it. Since I did not want to risk losing or accidentally breaking it, I improvised a little by purchasing a cheap, small cell phone case. The case is the same size as the Pedometer and it has a wide, tight metal clip that fits snuggly on my belt or pants. With the case and the Security Strap, my Pedometer has not fallen off since. If anyone has a problem with this item, I have no idea what they are looking for or how they are using it. I wish that I would have known about this product before I wasted my money on all of the other JUNK pedometers that I purchased. I am very impressed with this product, and I will definitely purchase other Omron products.

Customer Review: A Great Pedometer for the Price

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software (Purchased on 04/28/2009)

Likes:

Impressively accurate step count while clipped to belt, bag or resting inside a not-overly-roomy pocket in nearly any orientation except with display facing "up" or "down" (keep display facing side-ways-ish). Adjustable stride should give accurate distances. Thoughtful safety strap. Battery, USB cable, and software included. Discriminates between aerobic and normal walking. Retains last several weeks of data if I forget to upload one week. Seems to intelligently sync data without fuss. No touchy USB disconnection required, just yank the cable out of the pedometer and you're done.

I would definitely recommend this pedometer to others. I love it and so does my wife.

Dis-Likes:

Plastic display face scratches easily.

Pedometer snaps snugly into clothes pin style belt clip similar to cell phone clip, but clip spring is weak and the friction surfaces provide poor purchase to belt or clothing. Pedometer is easily dislodged with modest bump. Always use safety strap.

Minor Knits:

Safety strap loop works loose, looks untidy, but remains functional.

"Manual is potential meme. All your steps are belong to us." Come on, hire an English tech writer! A couple software dialog boxes are just weird!

Software interface, navigation, and data presentation need improving.

You can drop it into a fresh install on a second PC, or just recover when gremlins eventually attack.
