Customer Reviews of Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Health Management SoftwareCustomer Review: Best Pedometer on the Market Summary: 5 Stars
I highly reccomend this product and use one to compete with my brother to see who has more steps in their day as well as plotting a monthly goal. Last year I was diagnosed with Hypertension and High LDL cholesterol, so daily walks and a balanced diet are required to keep me in good health. In addition to this product, I purchasedOmron HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Omron Health Management Software which uses the same software. Both devices (pedometer and blood pressure monitor) synchronize effortlessly with the software (unfortunately PC only).
I reccomend buying the products togather, they have a compatible PC cable and the software stores the data so you can create reports to assist in tracking goals, sharing results with your doctor, or competing with a friend. This pedometer is very well designed as it tracks steps when clipped to your waist/belt or left in a pocket, even in a bag you are carrying! I do not like the design of the belt clip as it will slip off if you move a lot in your daily routine, but there is a safety clip/cable for the pedometer so its very difficult to lose.
One of its best features is that it resets at midnight, so your daily totals are very accurate. And this unit holds over a month of data (the blood pressure monitor too), so you only have to sync whenever you want to.
My only reccomendations to improve this product are:
-better/simpler belt clip
-include a measuring string for stride length.
Customer Review: not so wonderful pedometer - problems after a week! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great pedometer! As someone who has had several different kinds over the years, this one is wonderful! Not only does it keep track of everything from steps to calories burned to distance like most pedometers, it very easily interfaces with your computer, keeping track of all your data for years to come. The software that is provided with the pedometer is so easy to install on your computer, and is incredibly easy to use and user-friendly. The best thing about it though is the ability to put it in a pocket for use. I have always been annoyed by pedometers that while on your belt fall off or break, and this one works wonderfully carried in a pocket, the only pocket pedometer I was able to find on the market today! And for those of you who like the belt use - a convenient belt clip and safety clip are included for use. Overall, the best pedometer I have used so far!
Update: I seem to have run into the same problem several others have. The software that came with the pedometer, although easy to use, no longer interfaces with the pedometer itself to record my progress. I have been trying, and failing, to upload my information for a week now, and it just isn't happening. The upload gets about halfway through and just quits. I am not sure if this is a pedometer problem or a cable problem, but the feature I bought the pedometer for is no longer working. I am very disappointed, and would change my review if I could to 2 stars. The pedometer itself does what is says, adn does a good job, but the software and the uploads were the real treat, and now it doesn't work.
Customer Review: Looking for a good pedometer?...this is it Summary: 5 Stars
I can't add a lot to the previous reviews. This is a very accurate, reliable pedometer. I have used it everyday for about a month. It's a great way to track your level of activity, and a good motivator for any goals you have set. Most health gurus recommend 6000 steps/day for general health, and 10000 steps/day for weight loss. I work at home, and I was astonished when I recorded less than 2000 steps on several days during the week! But after a month, I am averaging about 6700 steps/day. If you are not very active, get this pedometer. It's an eye opener.
The pedometer is very accurate, but to get a good reading on distance walked, use the 10 step method recommended by the instructions, then walk a much longer course to fine tune it. I used mapping software and a 2.4 mile course. A running track would work well. A road with mile markers would work too. My pedometer is recording distances with greater than 99% accuracy.
I can confirm some of the other comments.
The pedometer is larger than a lot of others, but not a real problem.
The clip on the holder is not real secure. The pedometer doesn't fall off walking, but it sometimes comes off when sitting, especially in the car. Be sure to use the strap. It has a secure clip.
The supplied software is ok. It makes nice graphs and it certainly beats writing everything down on paper. It works, but it's not mature, well thought out software. For example, you have to close the graphing window or return to the main management screen to exit the program.
This pedometer is a solid 5 stars.
Customer Review: Great motivator! Summary: 5 Stars
I read all the reviews before purchasing this product - the major concerns seemed to involve the security of the clip/backup leash and problems with performance after replacing the battery. An earlier reviewer had suggested replacing the small plastic clasp on the short leash with a metal paper clasp used for securing a small stack of papers. I followed this advice and have once found the pedometer dangling from the short leash after doing heavy yard work. I would definitely recommend finding a backup for the flimsy plastic clip Omron supplies with the leash.
As for the battery, the manual suggests replacing a worn battery immediately so I'm hoping that having a spare on hand will eliminate problem #2. It's definitely a problem Omron should address.
The upload software is a great motivator. The current rage seems to involve setting a goal of 10,000 steps per day; I prefer the 30 minutes of aerobic steps for 30 minutes most days of the week that had been the earlier recommendation in the fitness literature. The software allows flexibility in goal-setting; I find that if 9PM rolls around and I'm short of those 30 minutes, it doesn't take much to get me on the stationary bike to make up the time. Over the four weeks that I've been using it, I've been much more consistent with my workouts and have significantly lowered my heart rate during a moderate to vigorous workout.
Highly recommended for those needing extra help sticking with a fitness program. Exercise is truly a magic bullet helping with myriad physical and psychological ills.
Customer Review: Grab it and go for a long walk! Summary: 5 Stars
I am so glad that I found this product! As a previous purchaser of various pedometers, I've found this to be the best! I've lost the other ones within days after clipping them to my belt, so I've that this works well when I carry it upright in my jeans' pocket. I bought this pedometer in late October 2008, and it's actually encouraging me to walk every day.
Hey, I thought 'How hard can it be to walk 10,000 steps? I'm sure that I do that anyway.' Well cher, let me tell you...I was taking about 3,000 steps on a good day. One drawback that is mentioned in the manual is that when you're walking up and down stairs (which I do a lot of at my job) or doing any other vigorous up and down motions (mind out of the gutter!), it won't count as a step. But, that's just a minor nuisance. I've walked almost every day that I've had this, and so far, I've lost about 18 pounds in two months! That's without changing my eating habits (hey, I'm in New Orleans...you know I've gotta have the Deanie's and Don's fried seafood platters, juicy grilled steaks and the crawfish etoufee!). Now, if I could only get the hang of that 'in moderation' thing....:)
An added bonus is the included software. It's quick and easy to track how often you've waled in during the day, week, month and year once you install the software. After that, you just plug the usb cable into the pedometer and computer, follow the directions, and your totals are downloaded within a minute. I download my data every Sat. night to make sure that I don't lose any of the stored days (memory only holds for 7 days).
