I use the fresh extender eggs in several ways. I toss one in the vegetable bin with celery and carrots that are too big for green bags. I toss one in the tub of salad greens I buy rather than removing the salad to a green bag. I place one in my potato bin and onion bin as well. They do make a difference as long as moisture is removed. I started putting a paper towel in with salad greens to absorb moisture and that helps also. Because there is more air present in a vegetable bin than in a green bag that has had the air squeezed out, they do not work as well for highly perishable items, but overall I am happy with them. I now use a combination of green bags, freshness extender eggs and vacuum sealing to extend the life of many items. Finding the right method for each product, removing air and moisture, and avoiding mixing in any older produce that is starting to go bad are the key. I could tell the difference when they were no longer working in the length of time items stayed fresh. I have started to take a permanent marker and put the date to replace them on the egg itself to help me remember when they are expiring. But they often last longer than the 3 months suggested time to replace them, so sometimes I wait until I really see the change before replacing the refill.
