Customer Reviews of Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Natural Whey, Natural Chocolate, 5 PoundCustomer Review: Whey Isolates for FAST Absorption Summary: 5 Stars
I just purchased this product in natural chocolate flavor two weeks ago. The product itself is superb in taste (no extra fillers like MALTODEXTRIN, GLUCOSE, etc...) ; thus you will taste the "natural" flavor of cocoa. This whey protein isolate works well with ice cold water POST workout. You could take one scoop pre-workout but I have not tried it.
RESULTS: As said before, I've only been on this product for about two weeks now, combined with other supplements and I've managed to slim down 1.5 lbs about. I would NOT recommend more than two scoops post-workout as your body may throw some of it away as Number 2. I workout 5 times a week for about 90 minutes a day intensely and also 2 or 3 times a week HIIT - type cardio (15 minutes) so thus this product HELPS SUPPLEMENT the recovery A LOT !!!
Other stuff:
I HIGHLY recommend taking a multi-vitamin to help your body adjust and digest this product! You do NOT want your money wasted with "bypassing" this product.... if you know what I mean.
In conjunction with this natural whey product, I also use a SLOW-release protein once a day as in-between meal snack and one before bedtime. This helps supplement your body thoroughly with the protein you need per day. You want lean muscle, maintain it with this natural whey at about .8-1 gram of protein PER pound of your weight.
Customer Review: Gold Standard 100% natural Whey protien - natural vanilla Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
Nutrition - 24g protien, 5.5g BCAAs, 4g glutamine precusors, 130 cal, 5g carbs, 3g sugar, 1.5g fat, .5 saturated fat per serving; compares well to the non-natural artificially sweetened gold standard whey which has 2g less carbs and maybe 20 less calories per serving, but, hey what's a small nutritional difference to get all natural ingredients.
Ingredients - all natural, no artificial sweetners
Taste (natural Vanilla) - not overly sweet which I consider a bonus because I've tried other protient powders which taste way too sweet though it is a bit bland; a good base flavor to work with, just add any ingredients to create a desired flavor -chocolate syrup, nuts, fruit, coffee all work well
Good value - 5.15lb tub for about $40
Shakes - mixes well in a blender, no stupid lumps, may get some lumps by shaking or hand mixing but not as many as other whey powders I've used
Cons:
Taste (natural vanilla) : a bit bland and maybe a bit bitter probably due to natural sweetner, this can be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for but again cut it with any ingredient you want to create any flavor and you're in business
Price : a few bucks more expensive than the non-natural stuff
Overall, a great source of lean protien, one of the better whey powders I've tried and a good value.
Customer Review: Tastes like Chocolate Milk =) and no artificial sweeteners! Splenda = BAD! Summary: 5 Stars
Pro's:
1. Taste's great even with out artificial sweeteners, unlike ON's other whey proteins which do. Now I didn't want to risk putting artificial sweeteners like Splenda in my body so I went with ON's all natural protein and I don't regret it.
2. Taste's like chocolate milk when mixed with milk of course. Almost like when your a kid adding Nesquik powder to your milk but when you don't add a lot of powder. So rather than tasting like straight up chocolate. This tastes kind of like a water down cocoa. Like you can taste the chocolate but it's not very strong. Hard to explain but just know it tastes good!
3. Mixes well in my shaker cup, no clumps!
4. Good quality protein.
Final thoughts:
Definitely worth the buy. 5 pounds of great tasting whey protein that doesn't clump and mixes well for $40!! Especially no artificial sweeteners!
As soon as I run out of this 5 pound tub I'll definitely come back to buy another one. =)
Tip: If you can't find the scooper in the tub. Just take a long knife, run it through the whey protein until you hit something then stick your hand in and dig for the scooper. At first I didn't think mine came with one but it did. Just had to look a little harder.
Customer Review: Best you can get Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this protein powder for several years now. After trying many protein powders over the past ten years, this is my favorite. To those that say it is clumpy, you are either not mixing/shaking it well, or you are doing so unproportionately.
I usually make smoothies by putting the following in a blender every morning in this order:
1 scoop of protein, this scoop is included,
add 1/3 (same scoop here) of splenda, they sell splenda by the bag
1 cup of milk, I use skim
1/2 cup of orange juice
1 cup of frozen blueberries (frozen strawberries can be used)
1 cup of ice cubes
Let the blender rip, I've heard of some add a banana to smooth it out some more, however I don't like bananas. You can also add a little bit of benefiber and grind some flaxseed in as well, more protein if you so desire. But the more powders you add the more liquids (i.e. milk, juice, ice) you need to compensate so it is not clumpy.
I have a huge box of 40oz foam cups I bought from a whole sale club that I then fill up with a lid and straw and you are good to go drink it on the way to work. Don't let it sit around for a long time, consume it as soon as you mix it, it tastes better, it's smoother.
Customer Review: Great value, decent taste. Summary: 5 Stars
This stuff does not taste amazing. In fact, it tastes like watered down muscle milk, if you've ever had that brand. That being said, it does not have all the artificial sweeteners and strange ingredients muscle milk has. You want to avoid anything artificial. Things like sucralose, aspartame etc. aren't particularly good for the human body. Or, at least, their long-term effects haven't been studied enough to determine.
The taste is bearable, and after drinking it for a while, I grew to like the taste. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just bland. Which is better than tasting bad. It is very low in sugar, which is good. It has 24g protein per serving. Whey protein is the best, and this is only $30 after taxes and shipping. Great deal. (I bought the 2lb chocolate kind). I refuse to try the vanilla as I have found that most vanilla protein shakes are disgusting.
So in conclusion, this is all natural (which is great), cheap for the amount you get, has a decent taste (not great, but not bad. It's drinkable!), and as long as you're lifting hard, it will aid you in seeing results. I drink mine immediately after lifting, and sometimes before going to bed as your muscles are recuperating and rebuilding while you sleep. Great product!
