Customer Reviews of Oral-B Triumph 9900 Toothbrush with Smart GuideCustomer Review: I never thought I'd "splurge" on a toothbrush... Summary: 5 Stars
I had briefly used an electric toothbrush once before, but the brushheads were expensive, and I the battery died, and I just never bothered again. Then my dentist essentially ordered me to get a new one.
"It will fix your life," he said. Well, my dentist IS a bit of a comedian. While the Oral B Triumph didn't quite fix my life, it did make a world of difference in my gums, which used to bleed for no good reason at all.
I don't think I ever brushed long enough before. The Smart Guide is a totally worthwhile feature to me... my old electric brush did have a timer built in to the handle, but that didn't do a whole lot of good because I couldn't see it until I was done, and if I needed to keep going, it reset the timer. Seeing it in front of me on the mirror, reminding me when to switch to a different area of my teeth, is awesome! I always wait for the smiley face now. :)
I didn't feel it was too rough, even to start. It feels fine, and cleans beautifully, and I'm so glad I spent the extra money.
Customer Review: Disappointing... Summary: 2 Stars
The Smart Guide is annoying. For no other reason than that you must have the Smart Guide to reprogram the toothbrush to different modes. Without it, you're stuck in one mode. Not that you really change modes often, but i just really hate hate hate having to carry around more STUFF than I have to. Don't get me wrong, you can leave the SmartGuide at home when you travel, but the LCD on the actual brush is pretty useless.
Also what's somewhat bad, is that I feel like Oral-B is trying too hard to add innovation to this product. Having had an Oral-B back in 2001, I have to say not much has really changed in the operation. But having said that, my teeth were the cleanest they have been in '01 so maybe it doesn't have to change much anyways...
having said all this, i've returned my 9900 and plan on stepping down to a 9400. If it were still availible, I'd step all the way down to some non-LCD Professional Care Oral-B, but looks like they aren't availible anymore. Sigh.
Customer Review: "Dentist Clean" Between Visits Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first electric toothbrush. I have braces and I thought an electric brush would be useful. My teeth really do feel "dentist clean!" Because of my braces, I can't use the brush heads that came with the brush, but I will review the overall brush.
I chose the Triumph because of the smart timer. It counts down the minutes and provides a visual guide for the quadrants in your mouth. The display is easy to read. Before this toothbrush, I don't think I was brushing long enough. Additionally, the brush itself "buzzes" every 30 seconds, so you know to switch quadrants. This means that when traveling, you can ensure you're brushing the proper amount of time.
I think the multiple brushing modes are useful. I've used the clean and sensitive modes. Additionally, I chose Oral-B because of the large number of brush heads. It is comfortable to hold and easy to use. I've had no problems with it. I recommend it.
Customer Review: Best Electric Toothbrush So Far Summary: 5 Stars
I used an electric toothbrush before this, and so I assumed that the transition would be easy. Surprise! I at first found that the Triumph was shockingly rough! For the first week I had to use it on the gentle setting, but after a week I got used to it and switched to the normal setting. I found that that the monitor is useful to time the session and I think that it is worth the extra money.
For what it is worth:
Normally when I visit the dentists office, the technician spends considerable time scraping off the plaque from my teeth. I went 2 weeks ago, and there wasn't any plaque for her to remove. None. Additionally, I have rather poor flossing habits, and the technician usually causes my gums to bleed. This time she commented on how healthy my gums were - even between my teeth (I did not admit that I had not flossed in a month). Note: I am not advocating that you don't floss, just admitting that I don't.
Customer Review: YOU NEED TO REGULARLY CLEAN THIS THING ONCE A WEEK!!!!!! Summary: 4 Stars
This toothbrush is great especially for someone who is lazy like me. I would consider this to be my first electrical toothbrush. What I really like about this this toothbrush is the smart guide. It guides you in a way to where to brush. It basically separates your mouth into four quadrants and you would spend 30 seconds on each quadrants. However, there is one complaint that I have. YOU NEED TO REGULARLY CLEAN THIS THING ONCE A WEEK!!!!!! Let's be honest here. Your mouth contains thousands of bacteria (Especially in the morning when you wake up. Hence, MORNING BREATHE!!!!) Well, if you don't clean the base around it, underneath it, and every other area, some gunk will build up. And that gunk my friends is bacteria!! Overtime, that gunk will emit a nasty sulfur smell. I read nowhere in the reviews that this is a problem but with me it is. Other than that, this brush does great work and keeps your mouth clean.
