Customer Reviews of Oster 76076-010 Classic 76 Professional Hair Clipper

Customer Review: Same One the Barbers Use---Works Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

After years of paying a barber to cut his hair, my husband gave in to the chidings of his brother and a friend to buy the same clipper used by barbers, the Oster Classic 76, to begin using it to cut his hair at home. The others have both trained themselves to cut their own hair. In our family, I have learned to cut my husband's hair.

We are saving money cutting hair at home instead of paying the barber's fee plus tip and we feel this justifies the cost of this clipper over time. Actually a larger issue was finding the time in the schedule for my husband to go to the barber shop when they were open and when it jived with his schedule, which was getting difficult with my husband's work hours. Also there is no sitting and waiting for the next available barber when you cut your own hair at home.

This is a professional device and is high quality. The way the clipper is designed is safe to use. More tricky is the Oster T-finisher tool, sold separately, because the T-finisher tool can cut the skin if not used properly. We use the Oster Classic 76 for the main cutting and clean up the sideburns, back, and back of the neck with the Oster T-Finisher.

Sometimes the Oster Classic 76 is sold in a combination pack with the Oster T-Finisher.

Read the package for which blades come with the Classic 76. My model number 76076-010 comes with a size 1 and size 000 blades. Other blades are sold separately.

After finding the manufacturer's full retail price online, we then shopped around locally and found the local retail stores including a 'discount hair supply store' were selling ABOVE the full retail price. We found the best price on Amazon.com so we bought it there.

We have been using this for about nine months.

Customer Review: Excellent product
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this product for my own use, so I cannot comment on how it may stand up to professional usage requirements. I needed a replacement for my old clipper which had stopped working about a year before. I had attempted to use a combination of other products to satisfy my needs without spending much cash, including using the trimmer attachment on my Norelco electric shaver as well as my Wahl 9877-500 Beard Trimmer. Both these products were being used beyond their performance specifications and they ended up being very inefficient. The Oster Classic 76, however, buzzed through everything with a minimum of effort. It performs better than any other trimmer I have used. The casing is solid and robust, although it may be heavier than you are used to. It is not exceedingly heavy, but more so than standard consumer trimmers. My old clipper had a problem with the cord being tangled and twisted (especially when other people used it who didn't care for it well), but the Oster Classic 76 does not have that problem and the cord is very sturdy. Blade removal and replacement is fast and easy, and cleaning is fairly straightforward. The two included blades (Size 000 and Size 1) cut to 0.5mm and 2.4mm, respectively. Make sure that these are the sizes you want to cut at, or you will end up ordering separate blades anyway. Overall, I consider this an excellent product and I look forward to continuing using it.

Customer Review: Real pro-quality clipper
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a serious clipper. I've gone through several sets of cheap $30 to $40 clippers, but all of them died after a few years. Even worse, in order to get a good clean cut, I had to go over the same spot so many times that it could end up taking a half hour to clip my hair. That's about what it took to drive to a local barber, get a haircut, and drive back. They could also easily jam with thick hair, so early passes had to be done slowly in order to avoid binding the clippers and pulling hair. Also, all my inexpensive clippers worked via a vibrating magnet drive, which would hold a good setting for a little while, but then drift off and either stop cutting or get super loud.

The Classic 76 clippers are smooth, relatively quiet, and powerful. One pass and the hair is perfect, no matter how thick it is. Switching blades is quick and easy, and the results are better than I've ever gotten with comb attachments.

Some reviewers complain about the heft and noise, but I can't see what they are talking about. I imagine the clippers could get heavy if you use them all day, but since I'm not a pro, I don't notice the weight. They seem about the same as my last pair of cheap clippers, actually. They are no louder than the clippers I've had before, and are definitely a lot quieter than vibration-drive clippers that aren't in perfect adjustment.

They aren't cheap, but I can't imagine being happier with a set of clippers.

Customer Review: Professional Clippers - Work Perfectly!
Summary: 5 Stars

Cons:

(1) The clippers tend to operate warm almost immediately after turning them on (this really isn't a big deal).

(2) The clippers are heavy / large / and sometimes awkward to handle (everyone else has said this too; again, no big deal).

(3) A bit expensive...but you get what you pay for.

Pros:

(1) The power cord is very sturdy and never curls up around itself like the power cables for cheap clippers.

(2) Switching out new blades = VERY EASY. All you do is turn the clippers off, push the current blade back, pop it up, put on a new one, push it in.

(3) The unit itself comes with two interchangeable, attachable blades: (a) size 1 and (b) size 000 (triple Zero)

(4) Most importantly, these clippers do a great job and cut through your hair like butter. The unit is very sturdy--a professional unit of high quality, and you get what you pay for. These will last forever, I imagine. Performance is great unlike those cheap clippers you buy at Target with plastic attachments. If you're serious about cutting your own hair (preferably a buzz cut around size 000), then these clippers are for you ! Shell out the money for them (they come with the #1 blade and the #000 blade attachments, and perhaps buy a few other blades separately (I'd recommend the quadruple and quintuple 0's, perhaps even the #0A as well, for good measure).

Customer Review: A serious, professional tool. Very even, sharp cut.
Summary: 5 Stars

I just love these clippers. I put the 000 blade in place (pain to do and I needed a screwdriver to keep the springy hinge open when inserting the blades, but I had no idea what I was doing... Heh!). With the 3/4 inch and the 1/2 inch combs (VERY easy to change), I can cut my hair myself with a definite professional look. My hair is a lot shorter than I used to cut it but it is worth it as the clippers do such a nice job. Even one handed behind my back, I can just buzz away and be done in minutes. The ONLY challenge is to slightly taper the 1/2 inch sides with the 3/4 inch top but I mastered that the third time I tried.
I did my son's curly hair and again, went very quickly and with a precise hair length. SO much easier than using hand tapering.
Very sharp and even cuts. I have NO idea how anyone can find fault with the way it cuts. The 000 trims the back like a scalpel and can be used to shave the hair off of the back of the neck.
Negatives? The cord is stiff so it has a tendency to sweep things off of the counter (goodbye dixie cup holder!). Loud? Quieter than my old clippers, that's for sure. Clipper warms up but is never uncomfortably hot (of course, I do not use it all day but still). Switch is on the bottom so it take two hands to turn off. My one and only blade change was a pain.

Great clippers, highly recommended.
