Customer Reviews of PRO-Fiberoptic L.E.D. Otoscope with Zippered Leatherette CaseCustomer Review: Best for the price does not always mean "The Best" Summary: 3 Stars
First off, the light that is emitted is great. As long as it works, I think this device will perform be greatly. Read the instructions carefully. Do not unscrew anything On the top. Put the batteries in first before you try to mount the head so that incase something bad happens, the internals cannot fall or jostle anywhere. Be sure to read the instructions, as I did not, and that is why I had a hard time.
I bought this otoscope for my brother, who is in medical school overseas, who I assume did the research on what to buy that wasn't W&A. It arrived quickly in a USPS flat rate box. The plastic hardcase is nothing spectacular, but it offers great utility. Obviously, though, this thing is built cheaply. I was trying to attach the head when I inadvertently unscrewed the top by the on/off dial(something that voids any warranty). Everything, quite literally, fell apart(and this is why warranty is voided). I spent at least an hour reassembling everything and the otoscope now works, seemingly, perfectly well. I did end up with a spare very small spring which I cannot locate where to put it. Now that it is all buttoned up, though, it seems pretty solid. But having now handled all the internal parts, and putting it all together, I do not think it will last very long. Maybe a few years. I suggest being gentle with it. Even buy more than one. They are cheap enough.
So, in conclusion:
It works great.
It is built cheaply.
Be careful with it, and you will have a great tool.
I look forward to high quality LED Fiber Optic otoscopes in the future.
Customer Review: Very nice otoscope, extremely bright and very clear view of the eardrum. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this otoscope after the bulb burnt out on mine. The cost for 2 replacement bulbs were going to cost me almost as much as this one. When I saw this model on amazon and read the reviews I thought what the heck I would give it a try. I have been using it in my practice now for 2 months and am very impressed with its function. The light is much brighter than my older Welch Allen Otoscope that I have been using for several years. I can also see the eardrum more clearly. I am not sure if it is due to the brighter light or a better lens but never the less it works better than I ever anticipated especially for its price.
The otoscope itself seems very sturdy. The only issue I had with it was that when it arrived the ring that holds the lens in place had a small crack in it. The lens was still held in place but I was worried the crack might get worse with time. I contacted customer service for the company and they immediately sent me out a new otoscope head and a postage paid envelope to return the one with the crack.
The Welch Allen specula I was using also do not fit quite as well as they did on my Welch Allen Otoscope. I was able to order specula from the company that makes the otoscope once I used up all my old ones and they fit perfectly. They were also less expensive than what I was paying for the Welch Allyn brand tips.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
Customer Review: Impressive product for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I am so impressed with this otoscope. I have been using Welch Allyn otoscopes my entire career as a pediatrician. They have functioned very well but are very expensive. I have also spent many dollars on bulb replacements over my 15 years in practice. I am not sure if it is the extraordinary bright light or just a better lens but the view of the tympanic membrane with this otoscope is definitely superior to my old Welch Allyn.
What really amazes me is the light from this otoscope is brighter than any Welch Allyn I have ever used and the thought of never having to order another bulb makes me very happy. I purchased 2 sets of C cell rechargable batteries at radioshack to use with the otoscope but thus far have not changed or had to recharge the original set I put in the otoscope after 3 weeks of use in my busy practice. It is my understanding that the led light source only uses a fraction of the battery power compared to a halogen bulb.
My only complaint is that I was unable to use my insufflation bulb that I already owned because the fitting was different on this otoscope than it was on my Welch Allyn. I was able to purchase one on the companies website though for $9. My Welch Allyn specula did work well with this otoscope and I was happy about this.
Customer Review: Really bright light and excellent clear view inside the ear Summary: 5 Stars
This otoscope was one of the best things I have found on Amazon (at least this is what my husband has told me). The otoscope seems sturdy and we love the fact the warranty even covers the bulb. My husband is a physician who is just getting started in his first practice in a small town so we liked the inexpensive price especially since we were needing three otoscopes for 3 different exam rooms. The other sets we were looking at were over $400 per kit. The light on this otoscope is really bright and my husband says that what you see inside the ear canal is very clear. The only problem we had was with one set. The otoscope comes with around 10 specula tips of various sizes but we had already purchased a large supply of Welch Allyn specula tips for the practice and found that on one set the tips did not go on as easily as the other two sets. We emailed the company about this and they immediately sent us out a new otoscope head and had us send the defective one back in a mailer. The new otoscope head fixed the problem. Overall we could not be happier to have found this otoscope set.
Customer Review: Really nice otoscope with brightest white light I have ever used Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this otoscope almost a year ago and have been so impressed I felt compelled to leave a product review. The light is a really bright white light and I can see as clear if not clearer with it as I can with my Welch Allen model I have in one of my exam rooms that runs off electricity and is wall mounted. Considering the Welch Allen cost me around $600 and this was 10 years ago I consider this otoscope a real bargain. Also the batteries seem to last and last I guess due to the LEAD light. I purchased 2 sets of re-chargeables to use with the otoscope so I always have one set charging and ready to go and I find it takes 3 to 4 weeks of regular use before I have to switch them out. Also the other big advantage is that the bulb on this otoscope is guaranteed for life. I am replacing the bulb on my wall mounted unit at least once every year or two and the cost of one bulb is almost half of what I paid for this entire kit. I could not be happier with my purchase and consider this otoscope an exceptional value for the money paid.
