Customer Reviews of Panasonic ER421KC Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer, Wet/Dry, LightedCustomer Review: Does the job well, light is on the gimmicky side Summary: 4 Stars
I've owned this trimmer for over a year now. I'm in my mid 30's so my nose hair hasn't reached kudzu vine levels.
The overall quality of the trimmer is very good. I was worried about this thing yanking my nose hairs and giving me watery eyes after reading several reviews from other trimmers. That hasn't happened except if the batteries are running low and I've been lazy about changing them. Even then, the yanking is only a minor annoyance and not anything painful.
The light is a little gimmicky. It's kind of awkward when it comes to aiming it and would have been better off if it was left out of the design. It's a needless waste on battery life since it stays on the whole time you're using the trimmer (no separate on/off button). You'd be better off using a mini-mag light or one of those little LED jobbies if you need a light.
On a somewhat unrelated note...
I have a few rogue eyebrow hairs that get ridiculously long and this trimmer has been great with chopping those down to normal length. I could use one of my several hair clippers but I prefer to use this because if I have an accident I won't end up looking like a drunk college kid who passed out at a frat party and woke up with no eyebrows. With this trimmer, I simply brush the rogue hairs upward and press the trimmer against them.
If I had to do it all over again, I would buy this trimmer.
Customer Review: The ER415 is much better Summary: 2 Stars
I couldn't decide whether to buy this trimmer or the similar Panasonic ER415, so I bought both of them. The ER415 is very much better. The actual trimming performance seems to be nearly identical--both of them trim just fine for me (I'm not looking for a close shave inside my nostrils), but the "light" on this one is completely useless except as a battery drain. I assumed the light would be located inside the tip where it would actually shine where you're getting ready to trim, but it doesn't. The light is located down on the side of the trimmer, so the only way it could even potentially be useful is if you pointed the light into your nose and then somehow managed to aim the trimmer where you'd pointed the light. It's a very stupid design and a completely useless feature, but there's no way to turn it off, so the light is on and draining the battery the whole time you're trimming.
The cap on this one is just a tiny clear plastic cup that fits right onto the metal cutting head with nothing to hold it in place, so if you keep the trimmer in a drawer with other stuff as I do you'll be constantly fishing for the cap. The ER415 has a big cap that covers the whole end of the trimmer and clicks firmly in place. The ER415 is a much better design and much less of a battery hog.
Customer Review: WorkED well. Summary: 2 Stars
My first bad review for anything Panasonic..
THE GOOD:
It worked great, has lots of cool features.. water can't get in, battery lasts a long time, ease of use, etc etc.
THE BAD:
Light is near worthless, take note that you can't light and trim at the same time (it's not pointed properly to be able to do so). So it just stays on and you look dumb with a spot on your face in the mirror and wastes battery.
But most of all, this unit is super-cheap. It assembles as so: the top plastic piece twists on into a groove that holds it, the "guts" are inside of that. I took this thing on one trip, and and from carrying it on a plane just once, somewhere inside of my bag the tiny plastic grooves broke and now the top no longer stays on. This was followed by me accidently dropping it ONCE into the sink, and (because the top doesn't stay on) the inside white peice of plastic with the blades breaks in the same way. So now none of the plastic parts stay together properly. CHEAP!
THE LINE:
I should have known and bought something high priced--[...] bucks = you CAN go wrong. It's a shame Panasonic has to compete with Wally World and lowly priced competitors so often, they really do make quality products for the most part.
Customer Review: Did a OK job for a whille Summary: 3 Stars
I read a lot of bad reviews for this trimmer, but just had to try it out, what seemed to be panasonic's top of the line nose hair trimmer. The unit worked well the first time I used it and then I washed the head part that contains the blade by detaching it from the main body as directed. The next day when I turned it on, it would not work , I tried shaking it and it started working . Since then its been a regular feature of this trimmer, have to shake it to make it work.
I am returning it, the amazon customer support thinks its a loose electrical connection some where inside of it. The new one is taking forever to come to me, due to a change in supply (whatever that means)..
I will give it 3 stars coz it worked well when it did. I take away one star because of poor quality that lead to the unit failing the second day of its use. I also take away one star because the position of the light is not appropriate , it should be on the same side as the switch. The light is on the opposite side of the switch, but for comfort of use I like to keep the switch facing my face, this makes the beam of light go on the outside of my nose. Had the switch been on the same side as the light, things would have lit up better in my nose.
Customer Review: More of the same Summary: 2 Stars
My wife bought this gadget for my birthday and I have used it for about 6 months. It is the latest in a line of vibrating clippers, with this one having a new wrinkles, that it is waterproof and has a light, or so Panasonic claims. I have no reason to doubt it is waterproof, but I have never tested immersing it in the sink. I also don't see the reason for the light. The bathroom is the most brightly lit room in my house.
My complaint with this device is the same as all the others. It doesn't do much of a job and takes a long time to do what it does. It doesn't cut closely. It doesn'cut all the hair. It is a device that has basically the same head and cutting components of an electric razor and doesn't cut nearly as closely. As long as they use the relatively thick tubular head with cutting blades agitating beneath the relatively few slots the hairs might slip into, the device will not be much and not worth the money. Only wives who hate their husband's nose and ear hair will buy them, hoping to cure a rainy day. In the end, the husband will end up using his razor to get a clean cut in the ears, or suffer with the lousy job the trimmer does. And, they will get cut. Time to rethink this device me thinks.
