Customer Reviews of Panasonic ER421KC Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer, Wet/Dry, Lighted

Customer Review: Worked, died, stank
Summary: 1 Stars

My review is limited, unfortunately, to the results of one use.

The first use it seemed to work reasonably well. It pulled a bit rather than cut as well as it should have, but it got the job done with minimal discomfort. Unfortunately, I recently grabbed it out of my closet to do some touch up and it would not turn on. No response. Totally dead. I popped open the battery cover and WHAM! I may not be trimming my nose hairs but I think I just burnt them off with that awful smell. The battery was fine and intact (no leaking or cracks) but the internal case smelled like a mixture of death, farts, and chemicals. In all seriousness it smelled STRONGLY of rotting organic compounds.

I have yet to call Panasonic, but I sure plan on it.

Customer Review: Painless, but takes forever while leaving sizable hairs.
Summary: 3 Stars

I was really hoping for something that got a lot closer to the skin -- especially for my ears, where I'm less concerned about "filtering." When I'm done, my ear hairs are totally visible. I was thinking technology was further ahead than it already is.

Although it cuts well, it seems like it takes forever to get all of the hairs -- at least 5 to 10 minutes. Then, when you're "done" you'll still find yourself tugging and plucking at the remaining stalks.

The on board light is a joke despite other reviewers' claims. A powerful LED might make a difference.

I'm already looking for a different one.

By the way, this review is mainly concerned about EAR hygiene. For my nose, it works quite well.

Customer Review: They told me so, but I didn't listen
Summary: 2 Stars

I shop frequently at Amazon and am a very satisfied customer. I usually read and follow the reviews but this time I ignored the poor reviews because I had owned another Panasonic model Nose and ear trimmer and it worked just fine. The ER421KC is unfortunately lousy and the most absurd part is the light which does nothing. I can not believe how bad this item really is. The unit does not trim properly, operates too slow for comfort and swift trimming, does not do a good job of it and all the while, the silly dot of light reflects on your face far from the area that you are trying to trim. If I had not wasted my money buying this, I would think of this as a funny joke on me. Buyer beware, unless, of course, you have the sense of humor that I sorely lack.

Customer Review: Works great, and here's some tips
Summary: 5 Stars

I've never dared use one of these but finally got tired of stray hairs peeking out. I put it to use last night and it works great. What more needs to be said about a nose hair trimmer??

A little more. First, the light actually is useful...just not when you've got it stuck in your nose cutting hair. Its use is when you periodically need to examine inside to see how you're doing. So spend the big bucks for the lighted model, otherwise you'll have to keep a flashlight around.

Second, when you first get it, it has a light oil film on the cutter. Good for the machinery but not so much for your nose. So I recommend you take an alcohol swab, take the cutter apart like they say and clean everything before the first use.

Customer Review: breaks, grabs, slows with age
Summary: 2 Stars

I have purchased two of these and each one has had problems. After a couple of years, even with a new battery the speed of the blades has slowed and I often end up with a nose hair attached to the now non-moving blades. Nice image - a guy with a nose trimmer hanging from his nose - but essentially that's what happens. I have to yank the hair out by the root to get the trimmer out of my nose. and it's painful!

Also, the upper cone holding the cutter blades eventually gets loose and will not stay on when pressure is applied at an angle to the cutting blades.

Overall, not a great product, but when it works properly it is better than most I've tried. The problem is that it doesn't work properly for long...
