Customer Reviews of Panasonic ES8043SC Pro-Curve Pivot Action Linear Wet/Dry Shaver, Silver

Customer Review: A great shaver from Panasonic!
Summary: 5 Stars

Like others, I carefully went thru many reviews before choosing to buy this shaver from Panasonic.
My previous shaver, a Norelco, was going on the blink after many years of usage and I was keen to try out something new,
something different from the rotary shaving heads that I was used to.
More over, I wanted a shaver that could be cleaned easily with a little water and soap.

I looked at the Panasonic's model that came with a charger and the cleaning 'thingamajig' and decided it was not worth the extra 40-50 bucks.
I then settled for the ES8043 model which I understand is the exact same thing as the models that have the charger stand etc.

Cleaning the shaver is a breeze!. Just smear a drop or two of hand washing soap on the outer foil guard and power the unit on under running water.
10 seconds later, turn the power off and remove the outer frame with the foil guard, exposing the cutter heads.
Now turn the power on again under the running water once more for another ten seconds and you're all done. I rarely use the turbo power mode.
Just clean the excess water with a soft cloth being careful not to touch the cutter heads. The shaver is now squeakly clean and ready for the next shave.

I have a light to medium growth of hair on my face and am able to get a clean smooth shave. Granted, the skin is a little sore after the shave,
but this is to be expected, as all new shavers cause the razor burn problem that ususally goes away after a month or so of use.
Of course, YMMV!
Personally, I am very happy with this shaver.
I got a good deal on the shaver. A week later I saw another store selling the same shaver with the price lower by $10.00.
A quick call to Amazon and the $10.00 was refunded with no questions! Can't beat that for customer service!

Customer Review: Close shave with little irritation
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using rotary style electric razors for more than 15 years. I finally grew tired of the endless circling necessary to get a clean shave...and this circling often led to irritation, especially on my neck, and occasionally in-grown hairs. Sorry for the gory details, but they are necessary to adequately contrast this razor.

I've been using this for six months now ... in-grown hairs have virtually disappeared and irritation on the neck is drastically reduced. This razor cuts very cleanly and rarely requires more than two passes over one area. For stiffer hairs, it cuts through like a lawn-mower--absolutely brilliantly. After a few days of growth this device loses some of its effectiveness, but the price I pay for lazy weekends...

I tend to use this razor dry, however it works well wet also. It seems to give a closer shave dry, although if shaving in a steamy bathroom or hot hotel room, wet is the only way to go.

The razor holds a charge for weeks, which is good because you get to keep the charging cable (which is clunky and heavy) stored away most of the time. It has a rapid charge feature and self-cleaning cycle that I use about once per week. The wet/dry functionality of this device makes it extremely easy to keep clean.

My only hesitation in giving this five stars is that, after six months, the foil feels a little duller, and thus it is taking slightly longer to shave. I have also found that irritation has increased slightly in the past few weeks which, as I stated earlier, wasn't a problem for the first five months or so. For the price and the regular cleaning, I would expect the foil to remain sharp for at least a year.

For its good shave, low level of irritation, long battery life, and wet/dry flexibility, this razor gets 4.5* from me. Excellent product, highly recommended.

Customer Review: I think I'll forgo the 30 day return policy on this one...
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this shaver because I was disappointed in the performance of Norelco electric rotary shavers that I've tried.

Above the chin was okay, but below the chin proved to be problematic as multiple passes would have to be done to clip the whiskers, causing visible skin irritation.

Being fed up with the lackluster performance of the Norelcos, I decided that I needed to get a new electric razor.

I had previous experience with Remington (not impressed) so I skipped them. That leaves Braun and Panasonic.

I ended up purchasing the Panasonic ES8043SC over other Panasonic and Braun models because of various benefits, including the wet/dry ability and being able to wash the cutting blade and foil by using just liquid soap and a little water instead of the cleaning base with expensive fluid cartridges.

Basically, the shave was almost perfect the first time I used this thing when shaving wet with cream. There were still some missed hairs that required shaving over again, but not as frequent or as uncomfortable as the Norelco shavers. Dry shaving was almost just as good with performance still superior to Norelco.

Although Panasonic insists that it may take a month to adapt to it, I feel like I've already gotten used to it; I think it's because after suffering from the Norelco all this time, the Panasonic is a revelation in comparison, even on the first try! If my face actually adapts, I can only imagine performance being better, even though it's already good as it is!

The fact that I can fully charge the Panasonic's battery in just one hour is a plus compared to the eight hours required of my last Norelco.

So, I think I may forgo the 30 day exchange. As of now, I am convinced that this is the electric that works for me.

Customer Review: Best Electric Razor I've Ever Used!
Summary: 5 Stars

I shave my face and my head with this razor, and it does a great job on both. It usually takes several passes to get all the hairs, but it will shave virtually as close as a blade. I can get my head cue ball smooth without suffering the inevitable nicks and cuts of head shaving with a blade. It sure is a lot more convenient, and cheaper, than blades and shaving cream, over time. Especially if you like to shave every day, or every other day. I usually shave dry, but other reviewers say shaving with soap is even better. Also the popup trimmer is great for edging my goatee. I've been using it for a month, and it's never "bitten" me yet, like a couple other electric razors I've tried have. You'll get the best results if you don't go more than 3 days between shaves. It takes much longer to get a good shave with it if you have substantial growth to mow down.
I generally get about 4-5 face and head shaves on a charge. It has a lithium ion battery, so you can charge it anytime without worry of getting "battery memory" issues like nickel cadmium, or nickel metal hydride batteries can develop, when the batteries are not completely depleted before recharging. It has a flashing LED that tells you when the unit needs charged, and usually there's ample time to finish your shave, and then plug it in to charge when you're done.
It cleans up easy by just popping off the foil head and running the blades under the tap, or you can do a more thorough job with soap and water. No need for expensive cleaning docks and cartridges.
All in all, I think it's the best bang for your buck electric shaver on the market today. There are cheaper models in Panasonic's lineup, but they lack the 13,000 RPM motor, which is key to the excellent performance this unit offers.

Customer Review: GREAT SHAVER!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a long time user of Panasonic wet & dry shavers and have used an ES8066 for the last 5 years. I looked at many options and read many reviews before deciding to buy the Panasonic ES8043. This afternoon, I received my shaver, charged it fully (only took an hour, as advertised) and began working on the 4 day growth that I prepared just for the occasion. Note that I get a 5 o'clock shadow about 2 hours after I shave each morning, so my 4 day growth is pretty substantial.

Out of the box, my first impression was that the ES8043 was a lot cheaper built than my older Panasonic. It is lighter, more delicate, and seems more `plasticy' when compared to my older model. Also, the popup trimmer in the older model was much wider and more solid. I also prefer the induction recharging method as it has less moving and connecting parts and therefore has less things to break. But the new model does look very cool and `high tech'.

My shave was awesome. First, I trimmed 1/3 of my face with a Conair trimmer and used the ES8043's pop-up trimmer for another third. I then shaved with the ES8043 on everything left over. The shave in all areas of my face was extremely close and comfortable. I found no hair pulling whatsoever - even against long hairs under my chin. I have no irritation at all. Shaver noise was much quieter than my older model. The pop-up trimmer works fine, but I do miss the one in my older model.

The ergonomics of the ES8043 was very comfortable and though the shaver felt awfully delicate in my hands my shave was easier, faster, and closer.

This baby is a keeper! I'll repost in 6 months or so with an update, if necessary.
