Customer Reviews of Panasonic ES8043SC Pro-Curve Pivot Action Linear Wet/Dry Shaver, Silver

Customer Review: they don't make 'em like they used too!
Summary: 3 Stars

I've been using electric shavers for over 30 years and have tried all the different brands and styles. From Braun foil to the Norelco rotary and Panasonic always won out in comfort and durability. The last Panny I owned was an 1800 series. (I can't remember it lasted so long) I've had it well over 5 yrs and only had to replace the blades once. Now the battery isn't holding a charge very long anymore and it's due for some new blades. So. with the price of the blades and foil around $50, I thought it's time to replace it.

I've always shaved dry and got a clean cut with no pulls. This new Panasonic ES8043SC Pro-Curve Pivot Action Linear Wet/Dry shaver is a down grade from their previous models. After 2 months I still get razor burn and have be careful when going against the grain because this baby will burn you! I also have to make more passes over the same place to get all the hairs. (and I have a very thin beard and shave only every other day) Granted, they do say this has the sharpest blades in the market, but do we really need them to be soooo sharp that they cut skin??

I gave this razor 3 stars because it does cut, but not as easy and gentle as older Panny models. I hope I get used to this soon. Also, for those who say this shaver is loud....that's a bunch of bunk. This is one of the quietest electrics I've owned in 30 yrs.

Customer Review: Google Reviews are Accurate!
Summary: 5 Stars

As many of you do, I love to scour reviews carefully before making a selection on anything (which is why we use Amazon). So, rest assured, the Amazon reviews here are quite accurate.
I've always owned Brauns, but I wanted a good new shaver that I could quickly and easily use in the shower. This works even better in the shower than dry, which surprised me a bit, but I guess it makes sense due to additional lubrication. Dry, it works well too, but you have to do more pass-bys in order to get stragglers.
As one person mentioned, if you are expecting razor close, then you have unrealistic expectations. But in the shower, it is damn close.

I don't have sensitive skin, but I did notice that it was a little red the first few times using it- but it went away- so no big deal. Probably can avoid if you use shaving gel (I got lazy and just went for water, but using gel it is smooth and super close). You get a lot worse with a disposable razor.

Pros: Charge lasts forever. Cleans real easy. Well built. Versatile. Even the hair trimmer works well and is easily accessible.

Cons: None. I wouldn't have bought a shaver with cons b/c it is such a simple device for a simple task, that anything less than "works perfectly" seems like a wasted purchase.

Have no worries with this shaver- if you are looking, get it.

Customer Review: surprisingly good - but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this item on a recommendation from a friend. I've been shaving my head for a few years, and the expense of quality disposable blades, along with the mess of water and shaving gels and the like, well, it was getting really old.

If you are thinking of switching from disposable blades to this razor, you will probably be pleasantly surprised at just how close it can cut. I have used several high end electric razors before and always been really disappointed in the rough and uneven result. This razor will leave most of your skin just as smooth as a blade.

I use this thing totally dry - there are a couple of spots on my throat and under my jaw that it just can't pick up. I'll flip up the straight blade piece and get pretty close with that. It takes a little longer than using disposables - maybe 20 minutes in total. I will usually jack up the volume on tv and do my shaving on the floor in front of an armchair.

Despite the fact that it takes a little longer and requires some mirror-maintenance at the end, I can't bring myself to go back to disposables - and it's not because of the cost savings. It's just less of a hassle to grab this thing, get the job the done, and move on. I would recommend this as a replacement for disposables, but I'd also suggest you be patient and accept that it isn't totally perfect.

Customer Review: great while it worked
Summary: 1 Stars

After 6 weeks. it turned on by itself while resting on the counter. It then entered turbo cleaning mode, shut off and repeated this cycle until the battery was drained many hours later. The buttons on the shaver would not work at al.

What really sucks is that I sent it to Panasonic for replacement (30 day trial period was up by just two weeks), and after 2 weeks, they notified me that replacements were on back order and not due in for 6-8 weeks. That was 4 weeeks ago. they would not send me a different model.

I'mn now using the new 5 blade Gillette Fusion and it works great. No nicks or cuts or blood which always happened with any razor blade up to 3 blades in the past.

Will I use the Panasonic replacement if and when it ever comes? Probably but I am very satisfied for the moment.

But I must add that I loved shaving with the Panasonic. I did have to touch up a bit with a disposable blade razor as some areas were not as close as I wanted. But using it was a lot of fun. the shaving cream just disappeared into it and I still can't figure out where it went. (I only used it for wet shaving.) It sucked off the cream like a vacuum.

So, it's an excellent shaver if it works. And Panasonic service is the very worst I have ever encountered for any product I have owned.

Customer Review: Best Electric Shave I've Ever Had
Summary: 5 Stars

For the last 15 years (i.e. my entire shaving life), I have used Norelco shavers. When the battery on my last one would no longer hold a charge, I decided to try something new, and purchase this Panasonic wet/dry shaver. Materials in the box caution users to "Please Stick With It. It's Worth it." They say my skin and beard need 30 days to adjust. Okay. Expectations duly lowered, I turned the shaver on, was momentarily surprised by the high frequency buzz that comes with 13,000 oscillations a minute, and ran the shaver down my cheek.

WOW.

Folks, this shaver has produced an EXTREMELY close shave, with no irritation at all, and no uncomfortable pulling sensation that Norelco's "lift and cut" method sometimes produces. Nothing can quite match a straight blade, but this is without a doubt the closest shave I've ever gotten from an electric shaver -- and I'm sure it will produce even better results as my skin and beard "adjust."

I was hesitant to switch from the trusty Norelco 3-headed shavers to this foil shaver. But I'm SO glad I did. And you can bet I'm going to tell my family about this. It was my dad who introduced me to Norelcos all those years ago. It's about time I introduce him to the Panasonic. :-)
