Customer Reviews of Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Hydraclean System Electric ShaverCustomer Review: BEST EVER Summary: 5 Stars
I am old enough (71) to have gone through many electric razors and this is the best I've yet found.
The razor works so well that, even with a heavy beard, I only have to shave every four or five days! (In between I just look modern-chic.)
The next best was a Norelco, but the problem with that razor is that if you have a beard or mustache you will constantly be shaving off part of it - it just takes everything. The fact that I can shave into the beard with the regular heads without nicking makes this Panasonic ideal. The pop-out trimmer works excellently, also.
It is convenient that the blades need replacement only every two years, and the outer foil, equipped with included long-hair clipper, lasts a year. Other brands I've tried cut that time in half.
In short, the parts (accessories) aren't cheap, but they last twice as long. I've been using this razor for a year and it shaves as well now as it did when it was new.
The Vortex cleaning system really keeps the entire head assembly super clean (although I had to clean the part where the head rests once). The cartridges can be expensive if you need to shave every day, but the razor can be well cleaned in hot water, so the Vortex need not be used after every shave. The way I use it, I get fifteen cleanings before I have to change the cleaning cartridge.
It can be removed from the holder and used any time, as long as there is a charge left-in an emergency, the cord can be used.
P.S. You do have to learn how to use an electric shaver! The alternative is the Firm of Nicks & Cuts.
Customer Review: Great Razor Summary: 5 Stars
I've been shaving with electric razors for over 30 years. I've used remington, norelco, braun but this is my first panasonic. My last two razors (for the past 10 years or so) have been rotary style models from Norelco and Remington. I've been generally happy with the quality and closeness of the shave I get from these models.
I have to say, that having used the Panasonic 8077S Vortex for several weeks now, that this is by far, the best electric razor I've ever owned hands down. It's not even close! The panasonic foil system and high speed motors are loud. This is probably the only down side. My wife complained for the first week or so, and it scares our cat quite a bit. (she likes to hang in the bathroom during my morning routine).
Having said all that, I have to say that the noise doesn't bother me while using the razor at all. The closeness of the shave and the total lack or any irritation on my neck makes the noise a 'non-issue'. I couldn't believe that the first shave or two that I took with this razor were so close and I had no adjustment period required at all! My neck was smooth and there was no irritation even on the first day I used this machine. I have to say that this razor makes the rotary models from Norelco and Remington seem really lame in comparison. Both of these razors which I was relatively happy with, both irritated my neck almost every day and it would be worse on humid days. Shaving dry or wet with the 8077S gives me a very close, very smooth shave. I am able to shave in different directions to get ALL the whiskers. Basically, I love this thing! Go out and get one now!
Customer Review: Best Shaver I have ever had! Summary: 5 Stars
Over the years I have used a lot of electic razors. Always seem to use Norelco's but over time I have come to the realization that Norelco's are really hard to clean and thus don't shave as close. I can't use a regular razor because I tend to make my face feel too raw.
Recently I decided to get a new razor and did a lot or research. I also have an older Braun that I use for travel. I would have never thought of Panasonic as being in the electric shaver business. But everyone seem to rave about the brand.
I decided to give it a try and the price seemed a lot better than some of the higher end Norelcos and Brauns with similar features. I have never owned a self-cleaning model so this was a going to be interesting.
Overall, this is a great shaver. Not too loud, but the pitch is higher because the head really has a high RPM. Took about the same time to shave as my previous shavers, but it feels like I shaved with a straight razor. Very smooth and soft. Unit is lighter than my Norelco's and the head movement is very good. Unit has a good ergonomic feel. Very slim body for those with smaller hands. I like the cleaning/charging stand because you can put it there without necessarilly charging it. This way I can let it drain down and only charge it when it needs it instead of everyday.
The first charge lasted about 2 weeks before I had to charge it. I also decided to run the self cleaning once to see how it did. That worked pretty good. I just won't cleaning as often as the manual states.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Customer Review: Great Disposable Razors Summary: 1 Stars
I've owed 3 Panasonic ES8092 razors in the past two years and now the ES8077S razor for the past six months. When they are working I love these razors for their close wet/dry shave. However, all three have failed to hold a charge for more than 5 minutes within six months of use. My latest ES8077S razor started exhibiting this behavior 2 weeks ago and now won't even turn on at all despite repeated cleanings/chargings. The cleaning system is pretty much useless, despite having religiously replaced the cleaning module and tank with fresh water every 40 shaves. Rinsing my old EX8092 shavers with soap and water actually seemed to do a better job.
I've finally given up on Panasonic's defective high end shaver designs and their lousy service. I actually bought the ES8077S shaver as a replacement since it took Panasonic over 2 months to repair my last ES8092 shaver which promptly starting exhibiting the exact same lost-charge behavior within two months of finally receiving the replacement. The first time I sent my ES8092 razor in for repair/replacement, Panasonic sent me a much less-expensive reconditioned ES8066 as a replacement. It took a number of calls to get them to replace it with the same shaver I sent them. FYI, the less expensive ES8066 shaver, which I also already had, doesn't provide as close a shave as either the ES8092 or ES8066 shavers, but at least I haven't experienced the charging problems with it over the past 5 years.
The bottom line is that the the ES8092 or ES8077S shavers are great if you can justify buying a new one every six months.
Customer Review: Best electric I've ever used Summary: 5 Stars
I'd been using an older Braun for the past five years or so, and the poor motor one day decided no more. I was considering replacing it with a new Activator, but after reading a few reviews of the Panasonic decided it might be more to my liking, based almost solely on the fact it could be used in the shower or with shaving gel. I should also explain I do NOT like rotary style shavers (mainly for comfort) and regular blades ALWAYS cause massive razor burn, even those new 4-blade monsters.
So to make a long story short, combined with some decent shaving gel and a couple of days practice, the Vortex not only shaves infinitely better than the old Braun, but as close as I've ever been able to get with a blade with NO irritation whatsoever. It also does its thing pretty quickly, usually only requiring a few passes to take off my bristle. Excellent! It also holds its charge for ages, is ergonomic and easy to handle and is not too terribly loud.
My only gripes are the large and NOISY cleaning/charging base. It sounds as though it might be lifting off at any moment. Best to start that cycle as you're on your way out the door in the morning, or at least while crunching on some corn flakes. As others have stated, the trimmer is next to useless, but a cheap-o beard trimmer does the job no problem. Finally, if I go a few days without shaving, it always leaves a few strays which require me to keep a few disposable razors handy.
All in all, this is the best electric shaver I have ever used, and that list includes a number of Norelcos and Brauns.
