Customer Reviews of Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Hydraclean System Electric Shaver

Customer Review: If you are deciding to switch from a blade....
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to try an electric shaver after many years of only using a blade due to razor burn problems with a couple old electrics I had year before. After looking at all the reviews I could (yes, I'm one of those) I decided upon the Panasonic. I have always been a fan of Panasonic products in the past, and they have never let me down. This shaver was no exception. After taking a while for my face to get used to it, it was shaving me as closely as my blade shavor. I even got a couple nicks from it that bled! (Don't press too hard!) I also have one of those necks where the whiskers grow in about 10 different directions. This shaver handles it with only a couple changes in direction of the ergonmic handle and pivoting head. The only razer burns I have gotten is when I have shaved too low on my neck, where there aren't any whiskers anyway. I love the option of cream or no cream. I get the best shave using a thin layor of regular shave cream, but still have the option (when I'm in a hurry or camping, on the road, etc) of using a preshave lotion to cut down on any mess or if I don't have any water available. The battery has never been an issue. I took it to a place where I didn't have an opportunity to recharge it, shaved every day for 10 days, and still had about 1/2 a charge left when I came home. I do use the cleaner which I feel does condition the blade and screen a little more than just rinsing it out, but you do have that option as well. Buy this shavor! You won't be sorry.

Customer Review: Nice, but didn't last very long
Summary: 3 Stars

Have previously shaved with a Mach III Blade, but my face is too sensitive to shave daily - generally shave every third day, and even still ended up with irritation. After years of this I decided to try an electric shaver and chose this model based on reviews and Amazon.com's "Gold" recommendation (top tier shaver!) I've had it for a week now and have been able to shave every day with no irritation! Die-hard blade shavers will tell you that there's no closer shave than a blade, and that's certainly true, but this gets pretty close. For me, being able to shave daily makes all the difference. The cleaning feature is very nice, too. Light-weight, easy to handle, and much quieter than I expected. I was nervous when I made the purchase, knowing I wouldn't be able to return it if it didn't work out, but I am very happy I took the chance.

UPDATE as of July 2010 - So this shaver gave out, totally dead, a little over three years after purchase. As consumers it seems that we are being conditioned to not expect anything to last anymore. Growing up I think my dad had the same electric razor for over a decade. Probably didn't pay $100+ for it either! I decided that rather than replacing it with another pricey Panasonic, I would try out a (relatively) cheap Norelco ($44) and so far have been happy with it. If it dies after a few years I won't feel quite as bummed. Plus I'm not going to be spending on cleaning cartridges every few months, so that's even more money saved.

Customer Review: Bad Shave
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought the Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Shaver and found the quality of the shave to be exceptionally poor, even after repeated attempts. To get anywhere even approximating a close shave (compared to a razor) I had to go over the same areas on my face and neck numerous times, and even then had to finish along my neck with a razor. I tried different techniques with the same unsatisfactory results, with both dry and wet (using shaving cream). If the shaver worked cleanly the first time, the shave would have been comfortable, but the need for repeated passes made the shaver a bit irritating.

Otherwise, the shaver and vortex cleaner worked very well. The Vortex unit seemed to clean and dry the shaver thoroughly. I tried the shaver in the shower and under full shower stream it operated just fine in the soaking wet environment (though the shave quality was unacceptable).

I ended up returning the shaver to Amazon under Panasonic's thirty-day satisfaction guarantee, and it cost me $18.76 in return shipping costs using Amazon's return USPS label. I don't appreciate having spent $18.76 just to try the product. I've bought MANY products from Amazon over the years and this is the FIRST item I've returned!

Overall, I had completely unsatisfactory experience with this product because of the unacceptably poor quality of shave.

Customer Review: A Great Shave
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, I was really skeptical to buy an electric shaver. I have been shaving with a razor for 28 years and never tried anything else. I purchased the Panasonic wet/dry based on the fact that I can continue to use my Jack Black Beard Lube if I liked. This shaver was the greatest. I tried all different methods with my Panasonic re; beard lube, dry, Williams Lectric Shave, shaving cream and Afta. All methods will give you an "as close" shave compared to ANY razor. The only downfall if shaving with any method except with a cream/lube, you will not experience that refreshing feeling you get with shaving with a razor. If you want to know the trick I used to shave under the chin and neckline and get a great shave just try to shave the way your beard grows. Mine grows sideways(in that area only) and with the linear head the shaver works superb with no skin irritation at all. If you follow the instructions and shave with a 90 degree angle you will go over that area many times before your beard disappears.
The cleaner system, in my honest opinion, is a waste of money except if you are lazy and not want to clean the shaver manually which is a piece of cake to use.I tried it and liked it but will clean my shaver manually and use the cleaner about once per week.
I highly recommend this shaver. You will not be sorry if you decide to make the purchase

Customer Review: IF YOU VALUE YOUR SKIN OR YOUR TIME< DO NOT BUY THIS SHAVOR!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the panasonic Hydraclean ES 8078s a month ago. In that time, I have used it about 3x/week, for a total of about 12 times. I used it in the shower, I was left with hairs all over my neck every time. I tried different methods...nothing. I had to run it across my neck so many times that it would always get irritated. When enough was enough...I have a meeting at 8:30. I live 20 minutes from my office. I wake up at 7:00, get into the shower as usual. Start to shave...continue rubbing this thing systematically over my face...continue shaving...continue....run my hand across where i had just shaved...hair. I am in the shower for 15 minutes hoping that this thing had worked. I get out of the shower and my neck is totally beat up...I mean bloody. On top of that, IT WASN"T SHAVED!!! I had to get out the foam and mach 3 and re-shave what I had spent the last 15-20 minutes shaving in the shower! So, I was late for my meeting and showed up with painful burns and cuts all over my face and neck. I have tried this thing dry...wet...everything; always wanting to give something that I spent over $100 on the benefit of the doubt...bottom line Do not waste your money or sacrifice your skin....grow a beard or try something else.
P.S. I have used the Norelco triple blade for years with no problem.
