Customer Reviews of Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Hydraclean System Electric Shaver

Customer Review: Decent Shaver, So-So Cleaner
Summary: 4 Stars

I've used this shaver for nearly a year now, originally because after a three-month layoff from shaving while studying for the bar exam, I found that I was getting cut up every day before work. I'd stopped using my previous dry-only rotary electric and switched back to a blade because my skin was getting irritated. The Panasonic rarely causes that problem, unless I'm careless about running it too long and hard over the same patch of beard.

The shave feels as close as with a fresh razor, particularly if I use it while my skin is warm and wet from the shower. However, I've noticed that I can feel my stubble more at the end of the day than with a blade. In terms of ease of use, it's a push--this is cleaner, since it doesn't need shaving cream, but it takes longer to get shaved than with a blade, because many patches of my beard require multiple passes (you have to get a feel for the various directions of grain on your face).

One caveat with the cleaning process: if the water and the cleaning solution cartridge aren't fresh, the razor can be quite smelly when you go to use it the next morning. Aside from occasional smell issues, however, it gets the razor clean.

Were it not for the cuts, I'd prefer using a blade. This has been the next best thing.

Customer Review: Panasonic ES8077S shaver
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not an electric shaver user. I always used blades and was always in search for the best one. The problem with my skin is that I can't shave more often than once in four days otherwise my face will become a mess. I have a very thick facial hair with hairs on my neck growing almost parallel to the skin. After reading reviews for this shaving system I decided to give it a try.
This razor exceeded my expectations. It shaves clean and very gentle. To my surprise I was done shaving in less than 4 minutes and didn't have any irritation on my neck. The angled blades of this shaver really do seem to work. Truly I didn't expect such performance from an electric shaver. Now, it won't cut as close as a blade but I'll take it as a trade off for the absence of irritation and the better shaving experience.
The cleaning base also comes very handy although I don't find myself using cleaning feature very often. I just rinse the shaver under the faucet, snap it in the base and select the drying cycle.
The design of the unit is in my opinion the best on the market of electric shavers. It feels great in the hand and the pivoting head will follow the contour of your face precisely.
Give it a try if you're looking for an electric shaver - you won't be disappointed.

Customer Review: It's nothing to get excited over....
Summary: 2 Stars

Panasonic's 8077 is nothing to get excited about,so save your money unless you are into wet/dry shaving with an electric razor. The Way some of these guys rave about it you would think they were working for Panasonic.Don't get me wrong mind you, the product does what it says, but not very well. The razor is not for those with tough skin and it takes several passes to go over your entire face. The razor does NOT do well on the all important throat and neck area and I find myself touching up after EVERY shave with a Mach 3 Turbo ( better you should use that). Don't use a Fusion for touch-up however as I find it no better than the Panasonic. This razors features that make it a little better than others are the wet/dry feature and the fact that you can clean it under water using liquid soap. Alternatively you can use the cleaning block. I leave the decision up to you, but I should also state that you MUST change the outer/and inner foils every year and that will run you about fifty-sixty dollars tack this onto the cleaning cartridges sold at sixteen dollars and you have a very expensive investment for a minimal shave at best. It did not change my life and it won't change yours. Trust me on this, and buy a less expensive and more reliable razor don't get sucked in by all the gimmicks.

Customer Review: great product
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're considering this shaver as a substitute for blade shaving, then you've hit the jackpot.
I have been shaving my head for about a year now and have tried various models of electric and blade razors. And while it is true blades are always the closer shave, they also cause the most damage to sensitive skin or to anything other than the most smoothe and perfect head.
Electrics while they seem like an attractive option simply don't get the job done. They just lack the power to get through the toughest hair, like the head.
Well then there is the Panasonic ES8077S Linear Shaver. This puppy blasts cleanly through the thickest stubble without even slowing down. I swear this thing would cut my lawn if I tried it.
Seriously, it has great features, and is solidly built and it's battery life is more than ample. I get a good 4-5 head shaves out of a single charge. (and shaving a head is a fair amount of real estate)
This razor by itself is a bargain, but together with the cleaning system it keeps your cutting heads and foil in like new condition for every shave.
If you want a shave that is AS CLOSE AS A BLADE but want to avoid the annoyance of cuts, nicks and razor bumps; than give this gem a try. You won't be sorry.

Customer Review: Decent shave with caveats
Summary: 3 Stars

I agree with most of the reviews here.

One thing apparently not stated is you fill a water tank with water and clean it every time you change the cartridge. The Braun does not require this...you just change the cartridge.

This unit gives a superior shave for me, however.

I would note that the cleaning cycle really does take 3 hours...and the unit runs the entire time. How long can it last doing this every day?

Addendum

1.

Someone mentioned the instructions. I have a Pana. Plasma TV and the instructions are written in the same MISERABLE way as the shaver. Someone needs to replace the team working on documentation, because it is really awful. They give you a bunch of complex-numbered figures (13b 13c 2a, 6), then write the text in a stream-of-conciousness block refering back to those figures multi-pages before.. It is really terrible.

2.

This shaver does a really mediocre job on the neck area. The good news is that the long hair trimmer works well here and does not irritate the skin. I yearn for someone to really figure out a shaver that can handle all areas of the face!
