however, I've worn a full beard for many years and only use my Panasonic Vortex shaver on my neck so my experience is hardly typical. Like others here I don't put my shaver through a cleaning cycle every day (more like once a week) but do rinse it under the faucet daily and I find that a set of cartridges lasts me about a year that way. Going to try the dishwasher trick that someone else here recommended.Customer Review: great shaver

It was hard to spend alot for a razor but reviews had been basically pretty good so gave it a fly--and am very happy so far. My beard isn't very heavy but still have to get rid of the grey stubble--shaves very close--the battery seems to last a long time--went almost 3 weeks b4 I figured it should get charged. I have been using this product for several years and I find it very good. I use it in my razor cleaning system and the razor is very clean when I take it out of its holder in the morning. It is easy to use and easy to replace when used up. It is very pleasant to have a clean razor when I need to shave. These keep the shaver clean. Panasonic does it with filtered water while the shaver is recharging. The filters are hard to find locally at Target, etc. so I purchased from Amazon. Good price and fast delivery.
I'm still not sure that you need the cleaning of the heads; but did notice that the shaver seemed to shave smoother and closer.

WARNING!
The site indicates that other purchasers of the Panasonic Shaver have purchased this Vortex Cleaning Cartridge, implying that the two items work together. They do not. The cartridge is for another model shaver and cannot be used with the Panasonic ES8243. The ES8243 may be the best rechargeable shaver on the market, but this is an unneeded product.
