Customer Reviews of Parker 22R - Long Handle Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor & 10 Shark Super Chrome Blades

Customer Review: Lucked Out On My First Safety Razor Purchase
Summary: 4 Stars

My decision to buy a safety razor in part stemmed from the the ridiculous cost of Mach 3 and Quattro cartridges. I'd also been annoyed at the quality of shave I received and how quickly the blades seemed to dull. Finally, my wife bought me a shaving brush and some honest-to-God shaving cream for my birthday and it seemed wrong not to have a real razor to accompany them. (The shaving cream is the Jack Black cream in a bowl, the brush a Tweezerman badger-haired one; I've also tried Taylor of Bond Street's avocadao shaving cream and like that, too.)

I made the right choice. At only one week of shaving with a safety razor, I obviously am not an authority on the different brands and options. What I do know is that the Parker safety razor is extremely easy to use. The weight and length make learning to shave with a safety razor relatively painless (I expected a few nicks and increased irritation the first week or so, though). Popping in and locking down the razors is simple and secure.

Plus, I must confess that now I simply enjoy shaving more. The brushing on of warm lather and the closer shave do make a difference.

Customer Review: I finally grew up!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! What an experience. The last time I tried a double edge razor wet shave was in elementary school, when I got to pretend shaving without a blade. As I grew older, I saw my father switch to an electric shaver, with which I began shaving, and then I switched to a single edge disposable, then double edge, then triple. I had come to believe that no shave could be satisfying, and that all "new and improved" razors were hype. Then I read about how a double edge safety razor is better for the environment, did some research, and tried out the Parker 22R Double Edge Butterfly Safety Razor and 10 Blades. Amazing. At 56 years, I feel like I'm finally growing up and learning how to shave for the first time. The razor is well-balanced and well made. I think it could last a lifetime. The 7AM blades are a joy to use. I was prepared for nicks, but have only had them when I rushed a shave using my old gel instead of taking my time and using good lather. For once, I have learned to "let the razor do the work". I just guide it around and have fun.

Customer Review: Mach 3, YOU'RE FIRED
Summary: 5 Stars

The last time I tried a DE razor was decades ago using drug store blades and an old hand-me-down razor. It was an experience I swore to NEVER repeat. That double edged "battle axe" drew more blood than the Red Cross! Even cheap Bic disposables were preferable. Eventually I found the Mach 3 and I was in love with shaving again.

Then came the sticker-shock! Between my wife and I, we used a 12 pack of cartridges each month. There had to be a better and cheaper way. Nostalgia took over so I found a cheap straight razor, a good strop, and learned the proper technique. Soon I was getting almost as good a shave as the triple blades, but there had to be an alternative other than a $200 straight razor for that perfect shave.

This Parker 22R and the included Shark blades were my stocking stuffer this Christmas. Using a light touch, my first shave was much closer than my trusty cut-throat and a hands-down winner over the Mach 3 for a fraction of the price!

If you want a close, luxurious shave for pennies a day without the hassle of stoning and stropping, look no further. THIS IS IT!

Customer Review: Great Razor
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used this razor for around four months now, and couldn't be happier. I did notice, after storage in the shower, it felt like the threading in the butterfly mechanism was getting "goopy." Easy fix, however, I just applied a touch of WD-40 (stands for water-displacer 40) onto the post in the middle of the butterfly so it runs down into the handle. Good as new for 6 weeks running. Solid construction, slight discoloration after daily use, but nothing to sweat over.

I've noticed, like others here, I get best performance letting the razor apply the pressure, only using what pressure I need to keep it on track. I also hold it at quite a steep angle, and I find I rarely have to make a second pass anywhere.

I'll tell you, if you've ever been curious about trying a more old-school shaving option, for just under $30 you have to try this one. It takes a week or two to really get the feel of blade shaving, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be hard pressed to go back to the "latest and greatest, 40 bazillion-vibrating-steaming-whatever-blade cartridge systems."

Customer Review: Shaving at a whole new level!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this razor because i got tired of paying high prices for mach 3 turbo and schick quattro refills. They have high price advertisement to pay for like Tiger Woods or Tom brady. Anyway i didnt realize how much of a better shave i was in for.I dont write many reviews so you'll have to trust me on this one.I have to shave everyday, some guys do.I never got a really close shave with the high priced disposable razors,so i was skeptical about a safty razor. Like you though i trusted the reviews, they help alot.It takes a few shaves to get used to, and yes you probably will nick yourself a few times. I think we all do.The shaving soap works well with a good brush. The whole process takes a little getting used to,but the actual shave is the payoff! You'll never go back once you use this product a few times. My face has never been smoother! The proraso shave cream is a little expensive with shipping, however it works well and smells nice.Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose but a really great shave! The blades are much cheaper as well, try the derby ones they work well!
