Customer Reviews of Parker 22R - Long Handle Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor & 10 Shark Super Chrome BladesCustomer Review: Safety Razor for life! Summary: 5 Stars
I was getting sick of the 3 and 5 blade razors, they give me very bad razor burn on my neck that I have been trying for years to get rid of with expensive pre/after shaves, so that is the real reason I started looking into safety razors. They did not disappoint, within my first shave with this razor I could tell that I would never go back to anything else. It is very easy to use (just twist the handle, the top opens up and you replace the blade), it looks great and I love the gunmetal color (though there is not a holder that I could find to fit the color so it does look weird on my polished one). The blades that came with it are not bad, I have been trying others already and like them more but if you just use those to begin with don't listen to all the stories of cutting your face up with them, they are not bad blades.
Love the razor, great price, great for starters since it comes with 10 blades and I would recommend to anyone looking into safety razors to try this, it is a much cheaper, and better alternative than the crap that is pushed on men today!
Customer Review: Good as a starter razor Summary: 5 Stars
I've been looking at safety razors for a while and decided to try this as my first safety razor. It comes in a simple box with two packs of five blades. The blade package is thick cardboard and the razors are spring-loaded to slide out after you take out a cardboard cover. Blades are wrapped in paper and a few drops of glue keep the blade from sliding around inside the paper. The razor is heavy for its size and the mechanism is excellent. Because of the deep-grooved texture, it doesn't slip in your hands. There's no effort in shaving as the weight of the razor does the work. The shave itself is far closer than any disposable with one pass. Because the head is large, it can be tricky shaving around my beard and I don't know how it'd handle under the nose. I can only use a disposable a few times because my beard hair clogs it but this isn't a problem; the gap between the razor guide rail and the blade was enough that it never clogged, and if it did, I could have opened the razor to wash out the hairs. I don't see myself wanting to use disposable razors ever again.
Customer Review: good safety razor, ok blades Summary: 4 Stars
i would like to preface this review by saying this is my first safety razor, so i can only comment on the quality of this razor and not compare it to other brands.
this razor feels great in the hand, has a nice weight to it, and the butterfly doors are not loose, nor does the blade jiggle like some other reviews stated. i would say it is a great razor to learn the art of wet shaving, or try it out to see if you like it.
I was on the fence about it until i ordered some different blades, which made a big difference in the comfort and closeness of the shave. my problem was going against the grain of the beard with the included blades really tore me up, but with some derby blades,Derby Extra Double Edge Razor Blades - 25 Ct the razor glides much easier. i would say that this razor is a great starting point from which to move forward with wet shaving. i don't think ill be going back to the mach3 i had before.
Customer Review: Great transitional D.E. Safety Razor Summary: 5 Stars
My father started me out on cheap, bulk disposables. Through the years I have progressed through the ranks of disposable cartridge razors, every year believing that the newest 9-blade electric can opener that was marketed to me was what I needed for a good shave.
I was recently turned on to the idea of using a DE safety razor, and came to Amazon looking for one to try. I liked the butterfly design--just turn the handle and drop in the new blade. I feel like I am getting a better shave now than I ever was before, and would have never expected that it would happen with only a single blade.
Because this is my first safety razor I cannot make comparative claims with other safety razors, but I am pleased by the look, feel, size, and weight of this one. If you are looking to make the switch I would highly recommend this razor, a brush, and a mug full of old time shaving soap to get you started. You'll never look back again.
Customer Review: I want to love this razor, but.... Summary: 4 Stars
First off, I love the way this razor looks...the gunmetal finish and the handle design are very handsome..why I bought it in the first place..secondly, I love the way it feels...it has a nice heft to it and the longer handle is a good fit to my hand...heck, I love the way it shaves, it's my first ever DE...I started with a Trac II many years ago...DE razor and a brush and soap make shaving something I like to do instead of something I have to do...so my only problem is a slight design flaw...the twist to open knob on this model incorporates most of the handle instead of just at the end, like most butterfly style razors, so if I'm not careful, it's possible to open the cover slightly while shaving, which means the blade might slip around a bit causing nicks and cuts...that being said, I really like this razor, but am planning on exploring the world of 3 piece DE(most Merkurs are this style)as I feel these razors might hold the blade more solidly
