Customer Review: Solid and Smooth the way Grandpa did it!

I have shaved with soap and brush for 25 years because that's how grandpa always did it. I always, however used the Bic or whatever was available. This is my first Double Edge Safety razor, and the use of it is a revelation, as I expected. I didn't cut myself once, and I'll be damned if I didn't even get rashed or raw. Maybe it's the use of a fresh blade with a whole lot of caution.
There's no need to apply any pressure to the razor, as it does glide nicely along the skin with it's own solid weight. I used extra care as I was trying to discover exactly the angle to drag this across my face, and I never even nicked myself, but got it smoooothly shaved. It's cool to not have to rinse it as often as a multi-blade disposable, as you can spin the handle and use the other side (double edge: voila!), and it rinses off so nicely, with no hairs clogging the blade: really a paradigm change in my shaving, I'd say!
I suppose this isn't a fully informed review after only one use, but I can see I don't need to think too much about it. It's simple, it works, and the need for caution makes me feel dangerous and in control, which is a strange but comforting thing to feel when you're shaving. Using this is like driving a manual transmission after a lifetime of automatics. The razor fits in the hand well, and is a cool, rather classic looking razor, with the chrome head and the black handle. It operates smoothly, and the blade sits firmly and evenly without any need to overtighten.
The one star reviews for this must be from people with really expensive razors that this one will never live up to. I wonder if Merkurs wipe your butt for you, too, because I cannot see this thing cutting up my face unless I was expecting a miracle when I used it and just started hacking on myself.
I've never used a safety razor before, and I have extremely sensitive skin, that's still baby smooth at 42, and it rashes fast, but I got a damn fine shave with this tool! No nicks, and the Clubman (for that real classic whiff...not too much, just enough to remind them of their grandpa!!) splash afterwards was not agonizing, but refreshing.
I was communing with my grandpa for sure! Heck, it was a great shave, and I felt classic giving it to myself. It may sound silly, but I feel like a big boy now!
ADDENDUM: While I won't change my initial impression, nor will I lower the number of stars I gave for this razor, I must add as a final note, after half a dozen shaves, that the black on the handle is wearing off. It must be a cheap paint-job, because the paint is wearing off the textured handle, already. I can imagine that in a few more weeks it'll look like it's 20 years old. While this has no bearing on the performance of the razor, which is great and still cut-free, it does defeat the reasoning I employed in wanting to own a black-handled razor. On the plus side: in no time at all it'll look like I inherited this from my grandpa, rather than just having bought it. So: Nice razor, crummy paint yob.
