I purchased a couple of straight razors from a local antique mall, but didn't have the resources to get them in shave-ready condition. I decided instead of buying a stone, I would try the disposable razor- and I have to say I'm very pleased. I've heard that a regular straight razor gives a more comfortable shave- which I don't doubt... however, the shaves I get from this razor are more than satisfactory. The blades aren't of the greatest quality- but you only use half of each blade in the razor. Each half lasts me about 2 shaves, maybe 3... so I can make the box last for a good 20-25 shaves until I need a new box of blades. Replacement blades are very inexpensive, which was the appeal to me for buying this razor. The handle is very cheap... plastic painted silver- but the bit that holds the blade is pretty solid stainless. The bit that holds the blade is actually two pieces, and has a hinged cover on the backside of the blade that pinches the two halves together and holds the blade firmly in place- it's difficult to describe given that the anatomy of this razor is very different than a solid metal straight razor. However, it is a nice sturdy design- simple, but works well. You can probably get a better shave with some of the more expensive Mach or Gilette razors on the market, but this thing gives a much closer shave than the cheap disposable razors, and will save you money in the long run. It's no substitute for a real straight razor, but if you have the patience and desire to learn to shave with one, this is definitely a good starter blade.
