Customer Review: My second unit - works fine!
Summary: 4 Stars

The first one I got had a defect and some bulbs burned out, the second one has been fine, and I've had it for months.

I have struggled with chronic insomnia all my life, and apparently suffered with a 'delayed circadian rhythm' issue (sleep/wake just not 'normal' cycles). I have used various pills, prescription and over the counter, and every 'sleep hygiene' technique out there.

I hate relying on pills to sleep and having the hangovers that sometimes come with them, so that was what led me to try the light box.

It has worked very well for me. I wouldn't call it a magic bullet, but if I use it regularly, early in the day, holding it several inches from my eyes, for at least 10 minutes, I DO get drowsy at night in a way that I don't seem to otherwise.

The company has a very helpful online questionnaire too that tells you the best time of day to use the product (for me it's morning, if you're someone who wakes up in the middle of the night it might be better used later in the day).

It's a nice small size, easy to take traveling. The charge doesnt hold very long (maybe 30 minutes tops), but I just leave it plugged in most of the time.

I strongly recommend it to anyone who suspects sleep /wake cycle disturbance, or who wants some help in the dark winter months if you live in northerly latitudes.

Customer Review: Does more than work on retina of the eye.
Summary: 5 Stars

Very effective light box. It does more than work on the retina of the eye though. Try this - sit with legs crossed wearing a hooded jacket (no skin contact to the light), put the light on timer behind you so you never see the light directly. You will get the same effect as with the light on the table and peripheral vision. So what's it work on? The aura/magnetic field? Could be! (They used to think the Earth was flat after all. I wouldn't want to be one of those in these modern times.)

This light box is a bit flimsy however. I can see how it could break easily, the base particularly. Still, for what it does the price is OK. Just treat it with tender loving care. One other thing, the LED readout is very small. You have to have a bright light on it to read it. The upside to the small LED is you get more retina charge having to look close.

Helps me with my sleep cycle and balancing out the emotional aspect. I guess you could call that getting rid of moodiness. It will help with sleep in such a way where all of a sudden you're asleep and the next minute it's morning. Pretty amazing. If you're in a position where you have to be up and can't get much sleep, like 1 or 2 hours, this unit helps A LOT for getting through the day balanced and calm. That's amazing too. It's a very good light box, but I haven't tried any others. I'll give it a 4 1/2, rounded up.

Customer Review: Best decision I ever made!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was told about this kind of lightbox years ago by a counselor and did a little research before purchasing. I ended up buying (at that time, an older version of) this one for work and a stronger (10K lux) version (Apollo Health Sun Touch Plus Light Therapy Device) for home. Soon after it changed my life, I re-sold it to a colleague and bought myself this newer one. This model is plug-in, and is substantially less expensive than the battery kind. The timer and intensity settings are easy and convenient. This machine has drastically improved my experience in the fall and winter months, as well as on rainy or cloudy days when I feel like I haven't woken up even by two in the afternoon, regardless of caffeine intake. I no longer feel like crawling into bed by 5pm between October and March. I think better. I sleep better. I have better energy and concentration, and as a public school teacher those are essential. I keep it on my desk at work right next to my computer screen and let it shine on my face. That's IT! With its help, I can stay up 'til 10pm or later and sleep until 6am, wake and turn on the second version I have next to my bed to help me get going in the morning. I even do yoga in front of it once in a while. Six of my fellow teachers now have something like it!

Customer Review: 7 years and still going strong
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this device for at least 7 years, and this has been one of the best things I've EVER done for my health. I purchased this after researching light boxes carefully, and wasn't really certain how well it would really work. I didn't personally know anyone who had such a thing, and I really didn't have much money, but my SAD was deeply affecting my ability to function in the world. Worth every penny. I use it every winter season and it has worked reliably despite being dropped numerous times and accompanying me when I travel. Unlike other light boxes, this one has no lights to replace. No smells, no excessive heat. I have since experimented with other LED wavelengths (red) and lights (a halogen work lamp), out of curiosity, but they never even come close to working like this does. The research supports use of the 470 nm LEDs that is used in this small box, and amazingly this thing about the size of a sandwich seriously SERIOUSLY works.

I'm also a fan of GE's reveal incandescent bulbs around the house. I made that change before working up the nerve to spend the money on this lightbox, and noticed a subtle difference, but I don't know if it is simply an aesthetic preference or a real therapeutic effect.

Customer Review: Wow...first LED burned out on the FIRST morning of use
Summary: 1 Stars

So...I just got my GoLite from UPS yesterday. I had originally ordered it from Amazon, but after reading the reviews about LEDs burning out I canceled my order and placed one with Costco's as they accept in-store returns for online orders.

And good thing I did, because today is the first morning I'm using this thing and one of the LEDs just turned off about 10 minutes into the cycle. It kind of came back on and off for a little while before just giving up and staying off. =(

There are some serious quality control issues going on here because no product should be breaking this quickly!!! I had only tested it last night for maybe 3 minutes (when it first got here), so that's 13 minutes of total runtime before my first LED burnout.

I haven't had enough time to see if it's effective but even if it is effective it's completely ridiculous to have your product break so quickly. To be honest the price is also a little ridiculous for what amounts to a grid of blue colored LEDs connected to a timer and a $5 clock.
And you can't even set it to turn on at a specific time-you can only set it to run for a specific amount of time.

Oh well, off it goes for a return =(
