Customer Reviews of Philips Norelco 7110 Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

Customer Review: Norelco Works For Me!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had a corded Norelco 4000 series that I have used off and on for years. I bought the HQ4 blades for it, and enjoyed it, even though I seemed to always go back to my Mach 3 blades. Well, the cost of the 3-4 and now 5 blade razors have really turned me off. Between the cost of razors and gasoline, well, come on....so I picked up a Braun 7526 and that thing would not cut my bear AT ALL, no matter what technique I used. So back to the old Norelco 4000 using Lectric Shave, I noticed the old Norelco did a very nice job but it did take me a week to get used to full time electric shaving. So I started looking for an "updated" model. Then I got this 7110 for under 40 bucks!

The first thing I noticed is the RPMs on the 7110 seemed quite abit slower thn my 4000 series Norelco. BUT IT DID NOT MATTER, the shave from the 7110 has been great!!!! I just go a bit slower with my shave, no problems there and going slower reduces the risk of razor burn. BTW, I have not had any razor burn with my Norelco's once I learned years ago not to press to hard.

I have a tough, thick beard and even with a Mach 3, I will have some stubble after 8-10 hours. I found so far that with the Norelco I have a bit LESS stubble than with my blade.

The 7110 is light and fits in my hand well. The noise is pretty low and, you can rinse the head clean under tap water. Overall, I could not be happier. Why 4 stars and not 5?? The popup trimmer works, just "ok" on my longer hairs, not great.

UPDATE 2 years later...This razor is still working well. What is amazing is that I am still on the original blades! Every week, I take the foil and cutters appart, rinse them in water and clean them with a brush. Also I found that even though William's Lectric shaved helped this razor cut better, I still had some razor burn. Now that I use AFTA pre-shave treatment, I have zero razor burn. Al in all this razor has been great for two years of daily use.

Customer Review: Good value model
Summary: 5 Stars

The heads on my old Norelco 5801XL had worn out. I was almost at the point of scraping my stubble off, so obviously it was time to replace them. The trouble was they were getting almost impossible to find locally. All part of forced obsolescence I guess. I don't like buying new models unless there is a need. I figured in this case that there was a justification and bought this model since it wasn't much more than the cost of a replacement head anyway. I have to say that I was surprised that this was actually quieter than my older Norelco considering it's one of their lower end models. I would've liked a model that had a proper 'battery full' charging light and corded operation but you have to buy one of their higher models in this range to get that. I don't see the point in paying double for a model that will give you the same shave, as apart from extra features, it would've had the same shaving head so I can live with it's minor limitations. All in all I consider this a great buy. Oh, and it gives me a great shave too!

Update: I have to say that after a using this for a while, I find the charge doesn't seem to last anywhere as long as my other Norelco which is in agreement with some other reviews on amazon. The red light seems to come on too soon. I actually let it run down after the red light came on to see how long it would take and it stopped after 31 minutes which means you still have a few shaves left once the light turns on so the light is fairly conservative. That seems to be the only downside so far though.

Customer Review: CHARGE all day and use for a week if you're lucky!
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought it to replace my older Norelco "Quadra" 6829XL that needs new heads. Since the price was so good I figured why not get a new shaver for not much more than what a new head costs.

Strong Points
* Better and closer shave than the older Norelco.
* Quieter than the older Norelco.

HOWEVER
The older Norelco fully charges in an hour and will shave for 2 or 3 weeks or more. A long enough shaving time that I could take it to the mountains away from a charging source for a week or 2 and it worked fine.

And the old one is easy to disassemble and solder in an inexpensive replacement 2 cell battery pack if/when the NiCd battery needs replacing.

This one TAKES an EIGHT (yes 8!) hour charge and it's best not to overcharge it so I use a light timer on it. An inconvenience at best!

Then I am lucky if it shaves for a week.

Customer service says it's designed for 25 minutes of shaving after an EIGHT hour charge!!!!

I should have done more researching before buying it! I may return it for my money back from Norelco...during their 60 day trial period and go ahead and get the expensive new heads for my old one.

***BE WARNED and AWARE of this before you buy! ****

It's for me a definite INCOVENIENCE and a **BIG "CON"**

Customer Review: A Rooftop Solar Panel Charges This Excellent 1.2 V Electric Razor
Summary: 5 Stars

I switched from Remington to Norelco electric razors over thirty years ago and they just work better, as big a difference in efficiency as comparing the ancient push lawn mower, to today's rotary gasoline and electric lawn mowers.

I especially like this Philips Norelco rechargeable model since, using an available accessory, Norelco model # (e4)020417, a 12 Volt adapter cigarette lighter type extension chord-plug, my 140 Watt solar panels on the roof charge two 6 Volt deep cycle golf cart batteries, wired in series to output 12 volts, then a 12 Volt clamp-on extension chord carries the correct charging voltage through the LED lighted accessory chord to charge the razor for free using sunlight photovoltaics. The same batteries also power my living room hi-fi, using a 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC (house current) inverter.

The point, the yearly savings are about $40 total in electric bill costs during the, say, five year life of the razor. The same battery bank also charges about 20 rechargeable D, AA, and AAA rechargeable common batteries using a similar DC power chord with a high quality 12 Volt DC fast charger.

Compared to everyone I know, I pay about a tenth for batteries everyone else does, with much more convenience. Unbeatable razor purchase, especially if solar energy is charging it.

Customer Review: Terrific razor!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a heavy fast-growing beard type with sensitive skin, retired, and don't shave every day. Disposable blades are fine when I shave every day, but not after two or three days' growth. Then, the skin irritation is, uh, really irritating.

When my last electric (Braun) bit the dust several years ago, I went to disposables for their closer shave.

Now that I no longer shave every day, I decided to try a new electric.

For $29.95 at Wal-Mart, this Norelco 7110 can't be beat!

I don't understand the comments that it won't work when on a cord and plugged in. I just bought mine this morning, plugged it in to charge for eight hours, then got impatient to try it after less than an hour.

I hadn't read any of these reviews about how it won't work on a cord. (Nor does the manual mention that.)

It worked terrifically, powered by the cord, on my three-days' growth of heavy beard!

Gave me absolutely as close a shave as a blade razor, and in the same short time!

Plus no irritation! Baby-soft skin and I'm not kidding!

Can't comment yet on anything else about this shaver. I've had it less that 12 hours. But I already love it.

Having had Norelcos in the past, I'm not anticipating any problems.
