My experience with Norelco shavers extends over thirty years. Owning more expensive models, I received an average of ten years economical service from each on my elderly face with a fairly light beard. Having reviewed a number of current models, the 7140 seemed most cost-effective. After using it for a month, I have determined the following: PRO's - It is designed to fit the hand well and the flip-type head simplifies cleaning. CON's - No sliding scale indicator to show state of charge. Runs at a relatively slow speed with slower shaving time. Bulky external transformer at end of charging cord. No storage case or pouch.Customer Review: So far so good!

I've had this razor for a couple weeks now and can say that it's worked well so far. I haven't been as dedicated as I need to be in using it every day/every other day so it's tough to say how well it would work if I used it as I should. From what I've read it takes around a month for your face to get accustomed to the razor to get the cleanest shave so I'm going to give it more of an effort and hope it goes as well as I hope it will :) Overall I would recommend the razor after seeing what a good job it did with my 4 day old scruff. One thing I will say is be careful if you have a gotee. Mine got caught and it hurt a TON!Customer Review: Norelco 7140XL - How do they do it?

Philips Norelco 7140XL Cord/Cordless Rechargeable Shaver Excellent shaver, have been using Norelco shavers for many years, (I am 84). The last one was great, wondering what they would do to top it. They have. The 7140 is extremely Quiet. Doesn't wake the family when you go out fishing at four AM. I know,who fishes? - who shaves first? - who gets up at four AM? Have it your way. It's quiet! Being able to clean the head under the faucet is great! On top of that, it gives a clean, smooth shave. I like it.

This shaver is producing excellent results, it is light weight and works silently. Its price is very reasonable, I purchased it even though I was actually looking to purchase replacement blades for another shaver, but found that the price of a new one was not much above the cost of replacement blades. It would seem to me that the cost of replacement blades should be reduced, so that shavers might continue to be useful after the original blades are gone.

I switched to this shaver after giving up a very old Norelco shaver and have been just as pleased with this one. It is pretty simple, but pretty much does everything I need a shaver to do without getting in the way. The shave is better than any other electric shaver I've used, though of course not as good as a regular blade. Cleaning it is really easy as it is waterproof and you can just rinse it out. The fact that it will run while plugged into the wall makes this a much better choice for me than its more expensive cousins as I can still shave when the battery is low and I don't have time to charge.
