Customer Reviews of Philips Norelco G370 All-in-1 Grooming System

Customer Review: Looks cheap... and is in fact, cheap
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this a while back and began finding problems with it right away.

1) The trimmer cannot operate on A/C power alone. This means you can't plug it into the wall and use it. Instead, you have to charge the battery, then unplug it to use it.

2) About 2 weeks after I bought it, the beard trimmer attachment broke. The little tabs that hold it at different lengths snapped off so you can only use it on the shortest setting, and you have to hold the attachment on with your hand so it won't slide off. Clearly, I'm not the only one who this has happened to.

3) The nose trimmer has very dull blades. I don't normally use a nose trimmer nor do I really need one, but I have a cheap one that I got in my Christmas stocking that I've used a few times. Out of curiosity, I tried the attachment that came with this trimmer and was introduced to a new kind of pain. It was pulling at the hairs but not cutting them.

I contacted the a representative at Norelco to see if I they would send me a replacement beard attachment or if I could purchase just that attachment. They directed me to their service centers who wanted $10 for just that attachment. Including shipping, it would have cost me almost what I payed for the whole set.

My advice: pay a little more for something sturdier. That's what I plan on doing.

Customer Review: Replaced My Norelco Definer
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this set in December, 2006 for the foil trimmer attachment to replace my Norelco Definer. I loved my Definer, but it is apparently out of production... a real shame! The foil trimmer is nearly as good as the Definer. The "clipper" trimmer is much larger than the Definer and not nearly as accurate for trimming the bottom of my mustache, but very adequate. The nose trimmer works very well. I haven't had a chance to use the different attachments for trimming my beard length yet (beard is too new), but based on my experience with the rest of the trimmer I am guessing it will work well. One real plus is that I only got three or four months use out of the Definer foil. I have used this trimmer every day for nearly seven months and am on the original foil. My guess is that when this foil wears out I'll have to buy a new trimmer, as a new foil will probably cost almost as much... if one is available.

As I mentioned above, the Norelco Definer is the best small trimmer I have ever used. I would love to buy about a dozen to last me the rest of my life. Short of that, this trimmer works well and is much less expensive than the Definer. The quality is "good enough" although not to the level of the Definer, but the trimmer does everything it's suppose to do at a very affordable price.

Customer Review: Better performance than I expected...so far.
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I would not normally order a cordless trimmer (nothing quite like shaving your head, battery dying halfway though, LOL) But a friend suggested it, so I went along. I have pretty thick hair, and my beard was pretty heavy when I received this, but it arrived in perfect shape and fully charged, and I went ahead and used it right away. I used the attachment with the flexible guard to shorten up the hair on my head, then proceed to go shorter to just stubble on my head, then trimmed and shaved my beard with the shaver attachment. All on one charge. Took about a half hour, so I was pretty shocked. I find I actually like it not having a wire to get in the way, or make me have to stay a certain distance from the receptacle. Head attachment swaps are easy as pie, and so is cleanup with the included brush.

Pros: Wireless; ease of use; easy of head change, powerful

Cons: I have a gut feeling the NiCd (or NiMh, not sure) batteries will wear out over time.

Hopefully by the time the NiCd/NiMh batteries where out, I'll have saved money on barbershop head-shaves.

I recommend this product!

(BTWE, please pardon my spelling/grammer, it's early morning for me and I haven't had my coffee yet. :P

Customer Review: Junk! (Don't waste your money!)
Summary: 1 Stars

I still own a Norelco 20XL, but because the NiCad battery would no longer take a charge I decided to try the G370. Well, let me tell you, don't waste your money on this piece of junk! (Sorry Norelco!) To begin, using the beard/hair trimmer attachment is a joke. Trying to adjust it will cause the head assembly to come off because the mechanism that locks the adjustment in place is poorly designed. Also, compared to the 20XL, the G370 looks and feels like it's flimsily made--actually because it is! It appears Norelco set out to design something like the 20XL but provides more options while keeping the price down at where the 20XL sold for. The only thing I found going for the G370 is that Norelco is now using a NiMH battery instead of a NiCad battery. Why do I know this? Because I took the G370 apart and took its battery out and replaced the NiCad battery in my 20XL. Now I have my 20XL working and I threw away the piece of junk G370. By the way, you can use a NiMH battery in a device that is designed for a NiCad battery. However, always read manufacturer's warning label just in case. Just be aware that charging time will vary between a NiMH and NiCad.

Customer Review: Durability Matters
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this shave for over a year and am very pleased with the precision and feel of this trimmer. So much so that I have given up shaving and have just been trimming for i have no more razor burn.

Note: I have not used this unit for beard trimming, just other hair.

Pros:
-- Durable, I have dropped the unit on the hard floor twice and instead of breaking, the unit just disassempled itself, absorbing the impact. Great engineering.

-- Looks slick, even though it is plastic, Stays nice and shiny.

-- Easy cleaning, just open it up and clean the hair out.

-- Great precision. This unit has 9 different cutting lenght when an attachment it on it. I use it for touch ups all over the place.

Cons:
-- Can't use the shaver with it plugged in. Only on charged battery.

-- Made of plastic.

Overall I love this trimmer. It looks good and performs even better. Solid trimmer that will be durable and last you some time. A great product to trimming, or use instead of shaving for that rugged look.
