Customer Reviews of Philips Norelco HQ8 Spectra Tripleheader Replacement Heads

Customer Review: Shameful Price Gouging By Norelco
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought my Norelco shaver for $30. Next to it on the store shelf were the HQ8 replacement heads, selling for the SAME $30. So, Norelco sells a new shaver, with cutting heads, rechargeable batteries, and a charger for the same price as the heads alone!!!

Presumably, Norelco makes some profit on the new $30 razor. The three cutting heads represent, maybe, 20% of the value of the new razor...or about $6 in value. So, to sell the replacement heads for $30 or for the discounted Amazon.com price of $25 is robbery.

Norelco seems to be telling its customers to simply buy a new shaver each time the cutting heads begin to get dull...encouraging more wastefulness on a planet being buried in waste...thanks Norelco.

Customer Review: Great new heads ... however....
Summary: 5 Stars

These are fine new cutting heads. However, I have in the past used a Vollco sharpener, which I just found in the drawer from my previous Norelco! Amazon also carries these (search Vollco Sharpening Heads For Select Norelco Models)and they are great, work like a charm to make your 'old' heads last 3-4x longer as long as you take care of them. I would suggest getting both a set of new heads and a sharpener set so that you can 1) sharpen your old heads to like new condition and then 2) have the backup of the new set for when you need them. My experience is that the re-sharpened heads dull just a bit faster than new originals and you really can only get a few sharpenings from them before they need replacing.

Customer Review: Great Replacement Blades
Summary: 4 Stars

These blades are direct NORELCO brand replacement blades for the Spectra razor. They fit perfectly and restore the "brand new" shaving experience that you may be missing due to old, dull blades.

If your blades are more than a year old or you notice that your shave is not as close as it once was, getting a set of these new blades may make the difference. This is my second set and they really did the trick.

Check the Norelco Website if you are unsure if these fit your model but other than that there is nothing to worry about. Incidentally, there are less expensive places to buy them other than Amazon. The shipping kills their competitive pricing.

Customer Review: You can't beat Norelco's quality replacement parts
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of Norelco razors and used them for about 15 years. I've never had problems with them and frankly the main reason for not using the same razor for the whole time is that I have wanted the "upgrades" available in newer razors after a few years either more battery life or newer shaving head, such as the Spectra which is superior to the older styles. Their replacement heads are very easy to change and the new heads make a significant difference in closeness. I highly recommend that you replace the heads on an annual basis for best shaving quality/closeness and don't take a chance with replacement heads that are not Norelco OEM products.

Customer Review: Very easy to replace
Summary: 5 Stars

My razor is an 8894 XL but others using the HQ8 cutters are similar. There is no reason not to replace the cutters when the razor advises to do so. It only takes about 5 minutes and most of that time is getting the package open. :)
When installing the cutters, lift them one at a time from the package and be careful to keep the 2 parts of each cutter together as they are matched.
To reset the "replace advisor indicator", press and hold down the power button until the razor beeps. (About 4 seconds)
Then you're good to go.
A new razor is over $200. Amazon's price with free shipping is impossible to beat!
