Customer Review: Long-last toothbrush with great results

I convinced my husband that this toothbrush would make a perfectly acceptable Mother's Day gift...in 2002. My husband and I used this brush 5-6 times per day for 7 years and it finally gave its last performance. Some electronic part beneath the power button finally broke and it would no longer turn off.
I will replace this brush with another Sonicare toothbrush (am still investigating which model). I have been extremely happy with Sonicare's cleaning results (we even bought our children the Essence model).
I have a lower brace that tends to collect plaque and my gums would easily bleed at the dentist's office. Since using the Sonicare daily, I do not have as much build up and my gums don't bleed during dental visits.
Another plus: The battery stays charged for at least 7 days, so for any trip shorter than a week, we would not even pack the charger.
I know that the expense puts this toothbrush out of reach for many people. However, once you commit to the expense, it is well worth the money. I believe that it has increased my dental & gum health, which is worth a lot to me.

I have been extremely impressed with my Sonicare Elite, which I bought one month ago. I knew an electric toothbrush would make a significant difference my dental health, but my teeth look and feel much cleaner than I expected.
What most impresses me about the Sonicare, however, is how well thought out the design is (no doubt thanks to numerous preceeding trial and errors). I had tried older versions of this product a few years ago and found them awkward, but this model is truly comfortable to use. I can actually get to all of my teeth at all angles easily. I also like that I can make my brushing sessions slightly longer as well. And it is surprisingly portable-- I travel a lot, so this is a big plus for me.
The reviewers who complain about the product being difficult to clean or about grime or build-up under the nut probably did not read the instruction manual. The instructions specify how to clean under the nut easily (the brush head pops out). I'm a bit neurotic about cleanliness myself, and I have found it to be very easy to clean and quite sanitary.
All in all, I'm a convert.

I actually bought this from my dentist for a lot cheaper. But I found this toothbrush to be better than my previous one (Sonicare 4800 Pro). If it wasn't for the battery dieing, I would still be using it. Lasted me for a good 3-4yrs. So I needed a new one. Wasn't to keen on the new design with the narrow brush head an all since coming from larger one of the older model. After months of deliberation, decided to go with the 9800 model. It's been about 2 weeks now since I had it. I love the bristles on this model, being that their not flat, which really helps getting the food out of my teeth. Which also is nice is that the neck is thin and angled, which I'm able to (finally) reach the back of my teeth all around. Battery lasts like Sonicare says, approx 2 weeks. I'm sure they could of used a better longer lasting battery. Oh well...I'm happy!
UPDATE 1: I actually got up to 3 weeks on a single charge. That's even brushing 2x a day with the full 2 minutes. Previous I had assumed when I saw the yellow light, would of only got 1 or 2 brushing out of it, but it kept going an extra week.

I bought two Sonicare Elite 7300 toothbrushes - one for my husband and I and the other for my 10yr old son. He was always getting comments at the dentist that his hygiene was bad and he needed to brush more and if I didnt actually stand over him he only brushed for 20 seconds. After 3 months he went back to the dentist and they gave him an excellent report. In fact they could find no problems!! They said his teeth were in fantastic shape and they no longer had that yellow film. Of course we had already noticed that! This brush is terrific. My son even likes to look in the mirror at how white his teeth are now. Plus he uses it till it shuts off after 2 mins
I did have a Sonicare about 10 yrs ago but never really used it cause I couldnt build up to it - the vibrations were too strong but I didnt have any of those problems this time.
This brush is wonderful. The only thing we had a problem with was my son's brush started to get dirty looking inside so now he separates the brushead after cleaning his teeth instead of leaving it all as one and both the charger and brush stay clean

Everyone in my family has the Sonicare. We purchased 4 after our dental hygienist recommended the technology.
This was 3 years ago. What have we experienced in those 3 years?
1. Once you use this technology a normal / manual toothbrush will make your mouth seem dirty after brushing
2. The automated timing and beeps, if followed properly, will 'remind' you to brush thoroughly
3. The gums DO NOT RECEDE because of the Sonicare: you still need to floss and remove plaque build up (but less thereoff); this point is made since some people seem to blame this technology for dental issues on here. Ask your dentist!
4. The have ONE SERIOUSLY DISGUSTING DESIGN FLAW: saliva, toothpaste etc. flows into the opening of the screw on brush heads and you will find a stinking slimy residue in there unless you take the head off every 2 days for a serious boiling. This is the one reason we removed stars.
5. We upgraded to the new FLEXCARE RS980 versions with the UV sanitizer and the design flaw has been corrected (plus replacement brush heads are half the price).
