This is the first power toothbrush I have ever owned. I am normally a bit of a purist, but by the recommendation of my dental hygienist I purchased this product about a month ago. The first time I used it I wasn't sure that I was going to like this rather expensive toothbrush.
I learned quickly to never have the toothbrush running outside of your mouth. I read the directions that warned me to have the toothbrush in my mouth anytime it is running. But when I turned it on that first time (touching my teeth at the designated 45 degree angle) the noise and violence of the toothbrush surprised me to the extent that I removed it from my mouth. Once I turned off the toothbrush and subsequently cleaned splattered toothpaste from my face, clothes, mirror, and counter top I tried it again. By the way Philips sets the toothbrush at a lower setting for the first few brushings to make it easier on you.
The second time I succeeded but experience was not very pleasant. I was surprised that it only took 2 minutes to brush and how short two minutes goes by. With my manual toothbrush I worked about 5 minutes. As I continued to use the toothbrush I acclimated to the device's ways and even got my timing down with the use of their beep. Now I love the thing. It's quick and after brushing, my teeth feel very clean similar to the way they feel after the Dental Hygienist finishes the polishing.
Pros:
It works amazing well.
Length of time required to brush (and actually get your teeth clean)
Lightweight
No plug, it charges through induction in its base
Reminder beep that lets you know its time to locate your brush to a another quadrant of your mouth
Cons:
Charge time (24 hours if the battery is run down)
Quick disconnect for the brush if more than one person would like to use the base

I had the Phillips Sonicare Elite 5300 for four years. This was a great upgrade able to use two different head types and different gentle settings for brushing. Comes with two heads and a carry case. A great step up for not too much money.Customer Review: Light weight

Prior to purchasing the Sonicare I had a handful of Braun Oral-B power toothbrushes. I liked them enough, but after giving the Sonicare a try I know I will not be going back to Oral-B anytime soon.
The Elite e9500 includes a nice travel case, a regular and compact brush head, a timer, 2-speeds, and a battery charge status display. My favorite feature is the customizable brushing timer. I set my for a 2:30 brush. It pulses every 30 seconds to let me know to move onto another section of my mouth, and when the "dentist recommend" 2 minutes are up I use the remaining 30 seconds to lower the speed and massage my gums.
The only negative for this model Sonicare is that some kind of slimy gunk builds up in the head of the brush. The first time it fell out I was both grossed out and fascinated by it (I need to get out more... I know). However, if you simply unscrew the top and rinse it out with water then give it a quick bang against the sink that problem goes away.
All in all... It may be expensive, but keeping your teeth healthy is important.
