Customer Review: Our son had his best dental checkup EVER after using this!
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Every time we took our son to the dentist, he'd get a lecture about what he needed to do (brush longer, go over the gum line better, etc). He'd shift from foot to foot and look guilty and we'd hand over our hard earned bucks and not feel happy, either.

We already knew he was flossing regularly, brushing as many times a day as recommended - and so forth.

Then we got the Philips Sonicare. I have to admit I was skeptical, tending to believe that using a regular toothbrush and some diligence would be enough. Fact is, the Sonicare really filled in some gaps - and caught some gaps - in our son's toothbrushing skills.

Even he was amazed when he first started using it. The brush is powerful but happily it has several cleaning "modes" so that the user can adjust it to fit tooth sensitivity. There is also a timer.

Please note: This particular model does not have the UV Sanitizer so I can't compare it to one that does. We bought extra brush heads locally so the whole family could use this. We all felt the same, that it produced superior results to our own efforts to keep our teeth sparkling clean and it did not cause fillings to come out or damage our enamel.

Here was the result of the dental exam for one person in our family (we are still waiting for dental visits to get results on the others):

Last time (before the Sonicare): one cavity and one spot that was likely to turn into one, due to excessive plaque in that area.

After the Sonicare - NO cavities and no plaque build-up. We do have a mouthwash that helps with plaque but he was using that BEFORE the dental check-up so the only major difference was the Sonicare.

I think the results are a significant improvement, especially for our budget and "dental expenses", down to the minimum we can cut it - for now. Although we won't know about the other two members of our family until we have a dental visit, we do feel that our teeth are cleaner, there is less plaque and the "smell test" (cup your hands over your mouth, breathe into them and smell the results) indicates that bad breath is a thing of the past.

Product information for this indicate that it is "clinically proven to remove more plaque" and we can tell that it does indeed do so, even better than those plaque reducing or removing mouthwashes - along with brushing.

For those who are particular about how a toothbrush feels in the hands, this one is easy to grasp and user friendly.

Customer Review: Top Gum!
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I used the first generation Sonicare Advance for many years, because I thought it was a great improvement over a manual toothbrush. The FlexCare is the "advanced" Advance - there is just no comparison. Most importantly, my teeth felt cleaner with the FlexCare than with the Advance. But there are many other advantages of the Flexcare as well.

The FlexCare is much easier to hold because of its rounded shape, slimness and lighter weight. That makes a significant difference when you're holding and moving something around in your mouth for 2 minutes.

The only thing that's the same between the two models is the 30 second beeps which signal you to change the area being brushed. But now, instead of just one two-minute brushing mode, the FlexCare has several options which are easily selected by a push of a button. You can do a 1 minute "quick" brush when you're in a rush - and the brush will beep every 15 seconds instead of 30. Or you can do a 3 minute "maximum" brush which includes a 30 second brush plus a 15 second gum massage for each area. The gum massage is a nice feature - I liked the feeling of just a gentle massage. You can even opt for just the gum massage without any brushing. And for people with sensitive teeth, there's a sensitive mode (although I haven't tried it.)

Other seemingly minor features were actually very user-friendly details that really won me over. First was the brush head attachment, which unlike the Advance, is a single piece which is designed so that excess water that drips down the side of the brush can can be wiped off. Any of you Advance users out there know that excess water can easily collect between the two pieces of the Advance brush head and create yellowish-brownish gunk between the two pieces, unless you always take the two pieces apart and wipe them regularly.

Second was the charger base. It includes a cord wrap, which you can use to hide the excess cord within the charger so that you don't have a long cord snaking around your sink. Also, when the cord wrap is removed, the charger converts to a smaller travel size. And a travel case is included.

In trying to improve the Advance, Sonicare was thinking of not just the performance of the brush, but how to make it easier and more flexible for the user. And they certainly succeeded. I recommend the FlexCare for top gums and teeth.

Customer Review: Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush Keeps Dentist Away
Summary: 5 Stars

I ueed Amazon.com to purchase the item because of convience and price. I purchased the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush upon the recommendation of my Dentist. It is everything he said it was. It really does the job. No plaque buildup as far as I can tell and I no longer have to floss which I hate to do. It is well worth the purchase price if it keeps the falseteeth away. My wife purchased another model of the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush and has been using hers for a month or two before I started to use mine. She really has a sexy smile now and causes me to take notice.

I really like the different settings and cycles. I like the 2 minute cycle with the 30 seconds for each quarter of the mouth with a beep to signal change to a different part of the mouth. In the beginning it took about 2 uses to become accustom to it. It does tingle at first and if you don't keep your mouth closed you will find it will give you a shower as well as anything else within 3 feet. But after a few uses this is no longer a problem as the directions in the manual indicates. It is much longer then the handle of a regular manual toothbrush and it took a couple of uses to get use to the extra length. IT GETS THE TEETH CLEAN. My teeth appear to be whiter as well. I can't wait for my next 6 month checkup and cleaning. Hopefully this toothbrush will put the hygenist on the unemployment list and cause my dentist to go on welfare.

Less toothpaste is required as you put just a small amount on the brush as "a little dab will do ya". The sonic part of the brush really does work. After you finish the brushing your mouth really feels clean and that feeling lasts for a long time. I had some tough roast beef get stuck between my teeth and the sonic part dislodged it in a flash. I don't need tooth picks any more. Again more people out of work.

Mechanically, it is rugged, well designed and built. Thus far, I have had no problem with it. The control button are easy to use and the LED lights are easy to see and I have no problem seeing which cycle I am using. It is very easy to keep clean by wiping the handle portion with a cloth and removing the brush portion and rinsing. Eventhough, the electrical part of the toothbrush appears to be well sealed I am careful not to get that part soaking wet. I purchased replacement brushes from Amazon.com as well. The storage/charger is convinient and I will be testing the travelability in a month or two when I go to West Africa. It sure beats the old fashion toothbrush.

I highly recommend the purchase and use of this product.

Customer Review: Worth the extra money for the advanced features
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm essentially a lazy person. But after a year in which we spent five figures on dental bills -- gum disease is really awful -- we got religion when it comes to oral hygiene. Yes, I really *do* brush twice a day, floss, and all the things I'm admonished to do on my quarterly cleanings.

We bought the older Sonicare units two or three years ago -- the "Elite" models. So when Amazon gave me the opportunity to try this new version through the Vine program, I felt that I could do more than say whether this *type* of product is worthwhile. I can give a real-world compare-and-contrast with the less expensive Sonicares.

In short: yeah, it's worth it.

The Amazon description gives you the basics of the way these gizmos work. The rechargeable brush vibrates in a way that does a deep cleaning, far more than you'd accomplish on your own. And the timer forces you to spend the right amount of time brushing. That's true of both the Elite model and this FlexCare model.

The FlexCare has a few extra features, most of which I appreciate. Primary among them is that it has multiple settings, not just on and off. You can choose a two-minute mode or a one-minute mode; the brush gives you a loud hum and buzz-change to let you know when it's time to move to the next tooth quadrant (top outside, bottom outside, etc). The two minute setting includes a few seconds of massage for each quadrant, too, which is nice.

The brush also has a setting for sensitive teeth (which would have mattered back when I still had the gum disease), and a massage-only setting (which is okay, but I haven't yet found a use for).

The FlexCare is thinner, which makes it more comfortable for my small hands. The replaceable stem-and-brush is thinner, too, and they plug in rather than screw on. Mostly this is a boon for cleaning the brushes, as our older Sonicares could collect all sorts of goop; we had to unscrew 'em and rinse them out at least a few times per week. This model also charges faster than the Elite.

My only complaint -- which is minor -- is that the button which you use to change the setting is a little hard to whack. It takes a distinct effort rather than a gentle touch.

Overall, though, this is a great brush. If you care about your teeth, do get one!

Customer Review: WOW!!! Best toothbrush experience!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've been using a competitor's electric toothbrush for years now; I swear by them. This is by far the best I've tried. It is full featured, easy to use, comfortable, and offers a great clean!

The toothbrush comes with the body, one head, deluxe charging station (which includes removable travel charger) and three color coded bands for identifying your brush head for multiple user households. There is also an attractive vinyl carrying case as well as a nice instruction booklet.

The tooth-brush has an easy-to-read display and controls. There is a battery indicator light that indicates how much battery power remains and blinks when the unit is charging, there is the on/off button as well as a selector button that lets you choose modes of operation.

The modes are as follows.

Three 2-minute timed modes:
Clean: Full power mode
Sensitive: A more gentle cleaning mode
Massage: A gentle pulsating mode for stimulating gum massage.

Additional Modes:
Go Care: Timed 1-minute cleaning mode for a quick mid-day or after meal clean.
Max-Care: 3-minute timed mode that alternates between Clean and Massaging modes.

During each of the modes there are short "bursts" every 30 seconds telling you to switch a quadrant in your mouth. After two minutes the unit automatically shuts off.

The unit also has an "Easy-Start" mode that starts at a lower power and slowly ramps up to full power over 14 uses, approximately 7 days of regular brushing. This can be deactivated or reactivated at any time.

The experience itself is very nice and invigorating. The sonic action stimulates gums and leaves teeth feeling clean, almost as if you just came from the dentist. The 30-second pulsing reminder is nice, as is the 2-minute and 3-minute timers.

For people used to electric toothbrushes, you will be amazed at the gentle power this unit has and you can probably go right into full power from the start. For those of you who are not used to electric toothbrushes, I recommend you utilize the easy-start to ease into the great experience.

I rarely give even great products 5 stars, but this toothbrush warrants a 5-star rating as it is perhaps the best oral care product I've tried.
