Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with SanitizerCustomer Review: Replacement was PERFECT Summary: 5 Stars11/13/09 - I had older Sonicare and after years of use/abuse it finally died when it hit the floor one too many times. I got this new, slimmer model. After using it for probably 9-10 months, the metal prong that fits into brush head became loose and noisy. I read other reviews here of similar issue and lengthly replacement times. I called Phillips/Sonicare Customer Service. They were courtious and very helpful. After telling them I had no receipt (my sister had got this new one for me) and guessing it's age, they asked for the code on the bottom. They said they could tell it was still within warranty and that they'd get a replacement out to me. TWO DAYS later I received new unit in the mail! And package tube had new label for me to return broken unit back to them. The whole (short) process from beginning to end was truly exemplary customer service! I have loved my Sonicare tooth brushes and was very relieved that they stood behind their product and service.
Customer Review: Great toothbrush Summary: 5 StarsI've used a Sonicare Advance since 2001. They are, in my opinion, top notch toothbrushes.
In fact, people were such a fan of my Sonicare FlexCare that they stole it from the dorm bathroom when I went to get my toothpaste. When I discovered the loss, the first thing I did was to go online and immediately purchase another. (I ended up purchasing the FlexCare without UV, which other than having a lime green handle and no UV, is functionally identical).
Other toothbrushes rotate- this is a million steps above. The bristles clean deep. It's easy to use and has several modes. The normal clean is a 2 minute, 30 second per side (lower front, lower back, upper front, upper back) program. Then there's GoCare (15 seconds each - good if you want to do a brief brushing after a meal or something), MaxCare (3 minutes, 45 seconds each - 30 seconds normal, 15 doing a pulse). Sensitive turns down the power a bit, and oddly enough, I've never tried massage.
The toothbrush will start you off easy. If you are a regular flosser/good brusher, or you own an older Sonicare, you probably don't want 14 days of gentle ramping up. If you want to disable Easy Start for whatever reason, put the toothbrush on the charger base and hold the power button for 5 seconds. One beep means you just disabled it, two beeps means you turned it back on.
Now, time for some pros and cons vs. the ancient advance I had:
+This brush is much smaller and the rubber is more ergonomic.
+The old brushes were bulkier too, the newer brushes are better. Additionally, the older brushes had exposed magnets, which would easily detach. Newer brushes do not.
+The old handle had a recessed area. This tended to build up with all kinds of crap. This newer model is not recessed, and as per the manual's recommendation, you should wash out the bottom of the brush and the top of the handle (where you attach the brush). This probably goes without saying, but don't submerge the handle...
+The charger base on the old Sonicare was also recessed. This newer model is just like the brush handle- no area for gunk to build up.
+The UV base provides a clean, closed compartment to store your brushes, in addition to cleaning them.
-The newer brush heads are notably more expensive than the older ones.
-I paid a similar price for my Advance, and got a second brush with hard travel case. This comes with a travel charger, but no second handle, and only a soft case.
-My dentist doubts the need for the UV cleaner and advises people to buy the FlexCare without it. Better safe than sorry, and I got the UV cleaner model on sale, so it was the same price anyways.
-Just like older models, there's no removeable battery. If it stays at home, no big deal, but if you travel...
Easily recommended, great toothbrush. Sonicare support is also amazing- a friend of mine had an Elite that just died a couple months after the two year warranty expired. Philips took him at his word and shipped him a brand new brush for free- no need to send the old one back. That's customer service, in my book. Also, my Advance of 8 years worked fine- I just heard the newer models were better and opted to upgrade.
Customer Review: Clean Teeth Summary: 5 StarsLove this product, makes my cleaning visits to the dentist alot shorter. Makes my teeth & gums feel really refreshed & clean. Love the UV sanitizer.
Customer Review: It works!!!!!!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI love my new Philips Sonicare FlexCare toothbrush! The best part about the toothbrush is that it has a timer built into the device, and when it is done with working on one side of an individual's mouth, it will beep letting that individual know that it is time to switch sides. It also has three settings on it: Clean, Massage, and Sensitive. All three of the settings work well, although I use mostly the Sensitive and Massge settings when working on my teeth and gums. There are only two downsides to this toothbrush:
1. It takes a long time to recharge the battery in the device. (I have to wait at least 16 hours after I put it on the recharger in order to use it again.)
2. It is a little loud. (Although I can put up with the noise.)
On my second trip to the dentist, the dentist said that she hardly saw any plaque on my teeth or gums, which means that the toothbrush is doing its job.
I was also very impressed with how fast the toothbrush showed up in my mailbox. My parents and I are now laughing that Amazon.com built a distribution center a couple of streets down from where I live!
Customer Review: Sonicare is the best noisy teeth cleaning device for home. Summary: 4 StarsI have used a Braun electric toothbrush for many years and was recently convinced to buy a Sonicare based on an article I read and my sister-in-law's assertion that it is the best home cleaning devise available. With regards to the end result, I have no reason to doubt the recommendations. After brushing with the Sonicare my teeth feel cleaner than they ever have with normal home brushing. In fact they feel near as sparkly as they do when stepping out of the dentist's office.
My ONLY gripe with this toothbrush is the amount of noise that it makes. There is a fairly significant buzz that occurs when you fire it up. That is to be expected I suppose, given the "Sonic" aspect of the product's name. However when the slightest pressure is applied to the teeth, the removable part of the brush rattles against the body of the brush with such gusto that I am having PTSD-like anxiety about the Milton-Bradley's "Operation" like BUUUUUZZZZ that occurs. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz BAAAAAAAA bzzzzzzz BBBAAAAAAAAAAA bzzzzzzzzzz.
