Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare HX6932/10 FlexCare RS930 Rechargeable Electric ToothbrushCustomer Review: Replaced a very old Sonicare - and love the new model Summary: 5 Stars
I had a Sonicare toothbrush for (incredibly) about 10 years and although it was still working, it seemed a bit slower. Knowing several new models have come out, I decided it was time to finally take the plunge and replace it. After checking online dental reviews, it appeared that Sonicare is still the best choice out there. I chose the Sonicare Ultra Flex since it was fully featured, and amazon had a good price and rebate on it.
Its a great brush and the package I bought included a hard carry case, recharge combo/UV base and a small travel recharge base. The brush body is smaller and much more ergonomic than my old model, and angled for easier use. It has an LCD panel and selector to chose several modes, including a shorter brushing cycle for quick freshen ups, and a gum massage mode. As others have mentioned, it will also be much easier to keep clean since the threaded head style of my old model (impossible to keep clean inside) is gone now replaced with a simple slip-in brush head that should have no such issues. Its a very nice brush, and my teeth have never felt cleaner (I can tell my 10 year old model had apparently slowed down a bit).
One concern was that the brush started out very quiet, but became very noisy in about 2 weeks. Those who have the brush might think this was when the brush speeds up after its gentle "startup" mode, but I had disabled that setting since I was already used to Sonicare. Customer service was excellent and sent me a replacement with a postage paid return for the old brush and it still runs normally. Seeing a few others report issues and failures, I hope this brush is as reliable as my old. I may be glad it has a 2 year warranty.
Assuming it turns out to be reliable, I love this toothbrush.
Customer Review: Great design, but doesn't clean as well as Advance Summary: 3 Stars
I upgraded from an Advance 4000-series, for three reasons: battery was dying, gunk in head was awful, the base was getting calcified and difficult to clean even with CLR.
The FlexCare has so many positives. Everyone has listed them here, and I can't add anything new. The design is wonderful, the gunk is 95% reduced, the charger base is nice and small.
However, it doesn't clean as well as the Advance. The nice large brush area on the Advance just BLASTED my teeth clean. For four years my dentist was amazed at how clean my teeth were (and I barely flossed).
On the other hand, the Flexcare's much smaller (and spikier) head just doesn't clean as well. I have a quadrant in my mouth that the brush just won't clean, and as a result I have significant plaque buildup in that quadrant. I've tried different angles, sequences of brushing, different gels...
And the other quadrants collect food much faster than before. All my teeth remain smooth only until the next meal. With the Advance, they'd be smooth and shiny all day. I'm also flossing nightly now, because the brush doesn't get between teeth the way the Advance did. (I have also used Listerine twice a day sine 2002)
Overall, the brush just seems wimpy. I like the reduction in noise but I miss the invigorating blast of the Advance.
My dentist noticed immediately after only a few months of the new brush. All quadrants needed to be scraped, compared to zero with the Advance.
I wanted to hard to give a 5 star review, but the brush is simply not working. I've taken to scraping my own teeth every couple of weeks.
What am I doing wrong? I'm stuck with this expensive brush.
Customer Review: These were great before Philips. Summary: 1 Stars
I owned an old Sonicare for many years. It was a great product.
After five years, I purchased a new one. This was after Philips bought the company. It failed in a year. They replaced it, but with another model, which they said at the time was better. The replacement has now failed after a few months. They refuse to replace it again.
What's interesting is that I had inadvertently called the professional customer service line (for dentists and the like) a few minutes before that call. There I was told the replacement model they sent me had a known history of failures and they would replace it with an improved version. We started to get the replacement information and he found out I was a retail customer. He said he couldn't do it and gave me a different number where, he said, they would take care of it. A that line (retail customer service) they told me that there was no problem with the unit and they would not replace it. This despite the fact that it was only nine months old and had a documented history of failures. When I told them what I had been told by the other guy, the response was that he was wrong, that no one at Philips would ever say that. But the fact remains that my junk replacement unit failed and the guy I spoke with knew exactly what I was talking about and could describe the failure. There is no doubt that Philips knew full well they were sending me a junk product that they were clearing out of their warehouse because they had to get rid of them.
Clearly, there is one company line for dentists who shill these things and get freebies for their staffs, and another company line for consumers who actually buy them. Buy Philips Sonicare products at your own risk.
Customer Review: An easy 5 stars! Summary: 5 Stars
Having owned the original Sonicare for about 4 years now I was impressed and then disappointed when my battery finally gave out, then I found the Sonicare RS930!
After doing a little research I picked one up...
Yes its a little pricey as most point out, but what is your only set of teeth really worth to you? Thinking about that anything in the Sonicare line is inexpensive! I read over every review I could find and as many pointed out it looks like some of the 'annoying' issues have been corrected over the original model (mold/scum collecting under the brush head mount, handle sticking to the charger like glue at times!)
I have only used this brush a hand full of times since it is brand new but there is no doubt its a night and day improvement over the original Sonicare. I really like the smaller size of both the handle and brush head, the brush head is much easier to move around in your mouth and reach the very back. I am still up in the air on all the new `settings/cleaning modes' but I will definitely give them all a try. The UV sanitizer is one of those things you really didn't know you needed but the more I think about it it's a must have and great idea!
If there is one thing I wish could change a little is the price of the brush heads themselves, yes they are cheaper then the other Sonicare models but at about $10 each they still seem a little high priced for what they are... even with that I have no complaints!
There is no doubt that my teeth feel cleaner then with the earlier model Sonicare. Hands down this is a very big improvement over the original Sonicare and I would recommend to anyone who cares about their teeth!
Customer Review: Excellent cleaning, but poor design Summary: 3 Stars
The Sonicare Flexcare gives you that "dental cleaning" great feel. The toothbrush handle is lighter and easier to handle than the original Sonicare style.
Now for the bad. The toothbrush head would not fit flush on the handle. There was a slim gap between the base of the brush head and the control/handle unit. This then 1. Caused the toothbrush head to come loose and at times to pop off. 2. Because of the gap and the looseness, the brush cleaning selection malfunctioned. While brushing in the clean mode, it would switch to the "massage mode" or the "sensitive mode". At first I thought I was accidentally touching the selection button by mistake while brushing. But, I believe now it is related to the poorly fitting toothbrush head not seated properly and snug on the poorly designed/or manufactured "metal rod fitting".
I contacted Philips Sonicare using their "Live Chat". After a short discussion of the problem and giving the rep. the model number and serial number of my unit, I was told a new Flexcare would be sent out to me and arrive in a week. A return label will be included to return the defective toothbrush.
Philips has excellent customer care. However, whoever is manufacturing these units are not doing a great job of quality control. Chinese made? Says so on the box, but the Flexcare says that the unit was assembled in the U.S. My original Sonicare was still working but I was getting tired of cleaning it and the brush was a bit heavy and cumbersome. My original Sonicare was over 12 years old and still doing well. Philips....you have a great product...please make a more reliable product.
