Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare HX6932/10 FlexCare RS930 Rechargeable Electric ToothbrushCustomer Review: 1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back Summary: 1 Stars
My original Sonicare toothbrush just gave up the ghost after just under a decade of use. Like most people, I was taken back first by the vigorousness with which it brushed my teeth, but over time became accustomed to it & my mouth felt dirty when I tried brushing it with any thing else but my Sonicare. The few things that annoyed me with my first one was 1.) the replacement brush had to be screwed on & off. 2.) Black gunk built up where the brush resided in the charger & in the thin plastic molding groove on the brush & had to be cleaned once every few weeks. 3.) the brush was larger and a bit cumbersome to maneuver around in your mouth to brush exactly the way you were supposed to. 4.) The price (& wastefulness) of getting new brush heads every 6 months. I ended up getting the premium model (as a gift) for a replacement & I must say it is a significant disappointment. The only improvement over the previous model is that the brush head isn't as bulky & easier to use. Gunk still builds up both on the bed of the charger & (now) on the underside of the brush (as well, since there is no screwing mechanism preventing water from running underneath the brush head). The brush head is easier to take on & off (just pull it off & snap it on), however I only ever had to remove the old one 2 or 3 times before it needed to be replaced. With this model, I need to remove the brush head several times a week because the brush bristles themselves collect mold where they meet the plastic part of the head. This never happened on my old model. I have a mold allergy & this downside prevents me from giving it any more than 1 star. Not only is the black mold really gross, it's actually in the part of the brush that goes in your mouth & is impossible to entirely remove. The ultraviolet light "sanitizer" that comes with the model is worthless (the previous model didn't have one, because it didn't need it!). I tried (as suggested on another review) soaking the head in hydrogen peroxide 2x a week, but mold still remains in the bristles even after soaking for 24 hours. Any other extras that come with this thing, are really only their to pad the price. So, in almost every respect, this thing is a step backwards.
Customer Review: Money well-spent! Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical a bit with the high price tag of Sonicare sonic toothbrushes. Luckily, I found the Flexcare model on sale on Amazon.com at a much more reasonable price than the retail price in stores, so I decided to give it a try. I am so happy I bought it; money well-spent. (Amazon.com's shipping is also very prompt.)
1) Compared to other powered toothbrushes out there, the Sonicare Flexcare toothbrush is not very noisy. I actually think it is quiet.
2) The best of all: the feeling of "dentist cleaned" teeth makes brushing enjoyable. Don't know about the older models, but the Flexcare model (I got it with the Sanitizer intergrated) works so well. I no longer need to "brush" back and forth (thus reducing gum irritation), but still get very clean teeth after each sonic brush.
3) The toothbrush handle is light-weighted overall, slim and easy to handle. The toothbrush plus UV Sanitizer whole system looks good on the shelf when it is charging. The brushheads are easy to remove and install. The standard brushhead is just the right size for daily use, not bulky like the manual toothbrushes nowadays. The compact head is also the right size for the hard-to-reach teeth areas. I also like the convenience of three cleaning modes and the intensity level variety.
4) I have used it for two days now and my teeth appear polished and shiny. The Flexcare model is not advertised by Sonicare as "Healthy whitening", but I have a strong feel that eventually my teeth will soon become a shade or two brighter.
5) I used the UV Sanitizer once, and the brushheads appear "dry and nicely warmed". Don't know if they are actually sanitized, but there is no way to test that of course. (I only wish that the UV Sanitizer would have some kind of music / sound to let you know when the process is all done.)
For a very thrifty person like me to write this 5-star review for this toothbrush, I definitely believe it is worth every penny. The retail pricing is actually too high / inflated price tag, but if you can get it "on sale" at a reduced price, then go for it...Give it to yourself as a healthy treat!
Customer Review: So far, So great Summary: 5 Stars
I've only had this product for approximately a month so I can't comment on the durability or long term quality yet.
What I can comment on is the performance of this toothbrush. Up until this purchase I had been using a Braun Oral-B rechargeable for the last 10 years. I loved the Braun and I loved that it lasted so long with no problems at all. I loved the Braun so much I recommended it to my roommate who was searching for a new rechargeable toothbrush. The only problem was that she went through 3 Braun's in the last 2 years and even the third one was failing on a regular basis. There was no way I could purchase another Braun and trust it was going to work.
So, after much research, I settled on the Phillips Sonicare FlexCare. As I said I can't comment on the durability or long term quality but the performance is amazing. My much loved Braun NEVER worked this well. I was shocked by the difference in how my teeth looked and felt after a few weeks of using the SoniCare. I've never had a toothbrush that left my teeth with that smooth feeling you get after a professional cleaning at your dentists office until using this product. My roommate was so impressed with my love of this toothbrush she purchased one for herself last week. I can say that she absolutely loves hers as much as I do mine.
The good: Great cleaning, comfortable grip, the brush timer is very handy (although I think it should be programmed with times for chewing surfaces instead of just front and back tooth surfaces), the battery is lasting over 2 weeks before needing recharge, comes with two different sized brush heads so you can choose which is more comfortable for you.
The bad: This baby is gonna rattle the windows, so to speak, the first several times you use it (I highly recommend taking advantage of the 'ease in' functions it offers until you get used to it), doesn't come with a pink color code ring (I know it's not really a "bad" but, seriously, how hard is it to offer pink along with the blues and greens?).
As long as I have no problems in the future with the quality of the product I'm a firm 5 stars on this one.
Customer Review: Simply the Best Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using philips sonic toothbrushes many many years, during that entire time I never needed any dental work or fillings, infact I did not even need to visit the dentist. People would always comment on how beautifully white my teeth were. When I did visit my dentist he said my teeth were in far better condition then he had ever seen, my brush needed replacing so I asked his advice, he did not like the philips sonic toothbrushes claiming oral B was the best and the only one they sold and told me to switch to oral B. Believing him to be an expert, I did switch to oral b, and oh what a mistake, because I paid alot of money for it I kept using it. It will be of no suprise to hear that for the first time in that period of use I needed a filling for the first time in 17 years, and another filling came out all together, my gums became very sore from the oral b and I developed gingivitis, and my teeth were not as white as they were.
I was so pleased when the oral B broke (after less than 2 years of use). I was back on the internet searching for my beloved Philips Sonic toothbrush, and found the best ever yet, yes the Sonic flexcare with UV sanitizer, I agree it is noisier, and for me I have to use the compact head, however the different modes for cleaning is really great for those with sensitive gums, and find the oral b too abrasive, I cannot stand the heads on the oral b either. The Philips sonicare flexcare heads are better shaped and I find I can reach all my teeth, and there is no toothbrush on this planet that will leave your teeth and mouth as clean as this brush will. Yes it is pricey, but dental hygiene is extremely important and for me I did not hesitate to pay the price as it is something I use everyday twice a day and know it actually works and does what it says it does. I think they will bring out another model with 2 brushes inside and additional extra's. I think it is worth getting the sonicare flexcare without the UV sanitizer and buying the philips UV standalone sanitizer separately as the standlone UV sanitizer will take other brush heads as well.
Customer Review: Modest design flaw and sham marketing Summary: 3 Stars
Generally speaking, this is a great product. I purchased it a few weeks ago to replace an approximately 2-year old Sonicare elite that my cleaning lady threw in the garbage. I like the new style brush heads -- easy to snap on/off (2 of us share the brush) and they don't build up all the "gunk" of the older version. Battery seems to last much, much longer. I use the UV sanitizer about once a week; I have no problem getting the two brush heads (both large) in place. I have no idea how well it sanitizes, though; I'm not a chemistry lab.
Now to the reason for the 3* review. The product gets dinged one star for a design flaw -- the mode setting button is poorly positioned so that my finger inadvertently changes the mode while I am in the middle of brushing. So all of a sudden the vibration diminishes, and then it will go to "massage" mode, which is a lower frequency pulsing. I've tried holding the brush differently, but it's not comfortable. The button should be disabled while the brush is in operation, if not moved to a different location on the handle.
I've also dinged the product one star for what I feel is sham marketing by Philips. When I first purchased my Sonicare elite several years ago, they said to replace the heads every 6 months. Then at some point, all of a sudden, they're telling you to replace them every three months. Has the workmanship gotten that shoddy? Has some major study come out telling everyone to replace their brush every three months? No, it's just a ploy to sell more brushes, I imagine the margins are *very* high on the replacement heads. I doubt they cost more than a dollar to manufacture. (To be fair, I doubt Philips is the only one who has done this -- Arm & Hammer does it on their baking soda boxes as well, now you're supposed to put a new box in the fridge every 30 days -- used to be every 90 days. Ugh.) But in any event, I'm not falling for this, and I feel the companies should be held accountable. So my part is to lower the rating by one star...
