Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare HX6932/10 FlexCare RS930 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush

Customer Review: Beware the non-rechargable batteries!
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought a Sonicare ProResults package very similar to the one depicted here, from my dentist's office in July 2008. I paid a very hefty price, even with the "professional discount," because my dentist raved about the results. Well, I immediately enjoyed healthier gums but in less than two years, the handle broke. The prong that holds the head on it became lose and therefore ineffectual. I called Philips and arranged for a replacement handle. I was also asked to ship the old one back to the company, which I did. Things went smoothly for another year, until two weeks ago, when the lights started flashing crazily and the brush would only work sporadically. Within one day, it started going off on its own, sometimes in the middle of the night, even though no one pressed any buttons. Within another couple of days, the thing just died completely- wouldn't take a charge, wouldn't work at all. I called Philips again but this time was told that the warranty is only good for two years and that they wouldn't be able to send a replacement. I asked about having it fixed for a fee and was told that they don't do that. When the batteries die, they just want you to get another one. The rep then offered me a 15% discount on my next Sonicare. They don't even offer to recycle your useless model! I asked what the life expectancy of the Sonicare toothbrush was and she said, "three to five years." Well, I haven't even had mine for three years yet. Guess what? My relationship with Sonicare is DONE. Why would anyone pay $120-190 for a toothbrush that can't even make three years without a problem?? That can't be fixed? Sonicare is a racket. I have a new dentist now and they recommend Oral-B, which they claim has great customer service and is better at getting behind the teeth. Oh, and the cost is a FRACTION of what I paid for the Sonicare. I admit that when it worked, I got excellent results from the Sonicare but I don't think I have anything to lose by going to the competition at this point. Philips obviously doesn't care about customer service at all.

Customer Review: Best Sonicare Yet
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had several Sonicare toothbrushes over the years. There were minor problems with each of them. But, their effectiveness kept me coming back. The first ones got cracks in them (their support people told me toothpaste with hydrogen peroxide caused them). The more recent models I had (including the one that dispenses toothpaste) collected saliva in the heads and in a cavity in the handle. Bacteria grew in them that made the toothbrush absolutely disgusting! But, I knew Philips had to get that right eventually.

On to the FlexCare Rechargable. The problems of the past have been fixed. My last couple of SonicCare's withstood my toothpaste fine. So, I'm expecting this one will too. The handle has been slimmed down and there is no place to saliva to collect inside the toothbrush. The addition of the UV Sanitizer is quite nice. And, even without the UV, it's great to have a place to stick your brushhead so that it's not sitting out on the bathroom counter all day collecting flying bacteria from the toilet.

There are several brush modes now. I only use one- full power baby! This thing gets your teeth cleaner than you can imagine. I build plaque in a couple of places. Right behind my lower teeth in the front is one. I was due for a cleaning at the dentist about 2-3 weeks after getting the brush. The plaque is smooth normally, so I don't notice. But, a couple of days after getting the brush, it actually took some of the plaque off that the older brush was missing. I was amazed.

This toothbrush is quite expensive. But, if you have the gum problems I potentially could have (because of the plaque build up), it's worth it. I had a dentist keep telling me, I needed to come every 3-4 months for "scaling and planing" and that got to be very expensive. Since getting this Sonicares, my gum checkups have been stellar. I'm on a normal six month rotation and the brush has, in actuality, saved me money.

Peace,
Brian

Customer Review: Great Sonic Toothbrush with Extras!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this toothbrush for about 1-2 weeks and can already feel and see a difference. My teeth are cleaner and more polished, and my mouth feels cleaner along the gumline and in-between teeth. The varying modes are nice; although, I find that I use the 3-minute mode most often to ensure a complete clean in all quadrants of my mouth. The brush heads are nice, although I prefer the larger one (standard vs. compact) to cover more tooth area. I have no problems fitting the sonic brush-head into my mouth, the extended reach is long enough to reach all the way to the back teeth and to clean the inside and outside of the teeth and along the gumline without having to open my mouth too wide. It is a very comfortable brushing experience overall. The vibration in the handle and brush head is also quite minimal for a sonic toothbrush, and I do not find it uncomfortable at all. The handle is also long, slim and easy to hold and maneuver. The on/off and mode buttons are easy to use and understand. The charger with UV sanitizer is also quite slim and fits onto my sink/countertop without taking up much room at all. The unit, overall, is really quite attractive. The UV sanitizer works wonderfully and accomodates 2 brush heads a time. I use my brush, then easily remove the brush head from the brush and put it in the sanitizer, close the door and hit the on/off button. The brush easily pops on and off the handle without any difficulty. I think that this brush could be easily used by a "lefty" or a "righty" and is something I wish I had when my right arm was broken! It would have made brushing much easier. The unit comes with 3 color-coded rings for households with more than one user, and a nice travel bag and travel charger. This is definitely a great unit, well made, and totally worth the money! I bought a set of 3 extra brush-heads, and plan to have/use this unit for many years to come!

Customer Review: I think all Sonicares are great, though price on this one seems exorbitant.
Summary: 3 Stars

I've been using Sonicares for about 10 years. Totally hooked and could never go back to a regular toothbrush. You really can feel a significant difference in how clean your teeth feel. I'm on my third one now, as eventually they do lose their charge and it just becomes an annoyance (especially if choosing to travel without the charger).

Going from the Elite to the Flexcare, the Flexcare has a much improved design with narrow handle, very attractive blue and silver trim, ridges on back for better gripping, and most significantly a head which easily pops off for santizing and you never have to deal with the issues of what builds up inside it where it connects. (Apparently these replacement heads cost less, so that's good.)

Performance-wise, I honestly find them exactly the same. Didn't feel any difference in the intensity or quality of vibration/cleaning. Was not jonesing for a santizier, but now that I have it I figure I might as well use it daily. Who knows if it makes much of a difference.

The one flaw, in my opinion, and that is that when you are holding the base there is a button that often accidentally gets pressed and it changes the type of cleaning mid-cycle. (There are 5 different cleaning choices but I have no use for any except the standard 2 minute one.) This seems to happen about every other time I brush. I don't think I'm gripping it particularly hard - I think that button is just very soft.

Price seems exorbitant. I missed the inventory at Costco and bought the double set for myself and my husband on Ebay. The double set is very hard to find.

So overall, would highly recommend Sonicares, but this one might be overpriced because it's the newer model. If you already have one, I would say you'll be fine with the one you have, and suggest perhaps waiting until the price comes down more.

Customer Review: When dental health is a top priority, this is the toothbrush to buy.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Our periodontist suggested that we purchase the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush. He said that an ordinary toothbrush could not possibly perform as well as this one. When a person brushes manually, he does most of the work, but when operating a sonic toothbrush, the user must be careful to apply only apply light pressure, angle the brush so that it touches both the tooth and the gum, and move the brush slowly from tooth to tooth. There will be a period of adjustment for the average person who is used to putting extra effort into cleaning his teeth.

The Sonicare FlexCare has a clear and thorough instruction booklet explaining each feature. The handle is comfortable, the on/off button is conveniently located, and there is a travel charger if you want to take the brush with you on the road. A fully charged brush will work for two weeks, but you may leave the brush in the charger 24/7 without causing any damage. For those who are nervous about germs, there is even a UV sanitizer to zap any bacteria that may have settled on the brush head.

If you want to experiment with different brushing modes, there is a standard "clean mode," a "sensitive mode" for a more gentle feel, and a "massage mode" for extra gum stimulation. There are also short and longer brushing cycles and a "Smartimer" that automatically turns off the toothbrush at the end of a brushing cycle. Having used the toothbrush for a while now, I find it refreshing, stimulating, and easy to operate. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, this high tech item would be a sensible purchase.
