Customer Reviews of Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream - 3.6 oz

Customer Review: Great Pre Shave Prep
Summary: 4 Stars

I have only used this a few times since getting it but it seems to do what it claims..I do not use it as a post shave balm..there are plenty of other products designed for after shaving that I prefer over this..however, as a pre shave this really seems to "prep" your facial hair and give you a nice close shave, when using this with the Proraso shave cream you really get a nice close shave and it cools your skin so you do not get any buring sensation from shaving..the smell is nice and I love the cooling effect it has..Proraso products are cheap in price but I would put them up there with other high end & more expnsive shaving products on the market today...a little goes a long way so this jar will last you for a long time..A++ product for a pre-shave..try it out, you will not be disappointed..

Customer Review: does what it is supposed to do....
Summary: 4 Stars

Having been shaving for years and being the grandchild of immigrants from southern Italy, I am no stranger to Proraso products. While I am not so keen on their shaving creams and foams, I do love their old style aftershave splash and this pre/post shave stuff, which I use only as a pre-shave. It contains a lot of menthol so it is for the "aged" face and beard in my opinion, but it definitely does the trick. Has a great way of "standing up" the beard before applying a traditional brush shave cream on top of it. Heavily scented and a bit slick to the touch, it does however rinse clean and only a tiny amount is needed over the toughest parts of your beard. I recommend it to all of my older friends--just can't see this stuff catching on with the "man-scaping" generation.

Customer Review: Not for sensitive skin
Summary: 2 Stars

Felt like a combination of Noxema and Icy Hot - not pleasant.

I was hoping for something to make my shaves smoother and to condition my skin a bit afterwards. This seemed like the right product. I like that it is stored in a glass jar, but wish it was 0.6 oz. smaller to take in a carry-on bag for my business trips.

Overall I did not like the product for putting on my face. I have fairly sensitive skin and can break out easily even as a middle-aged adult, this didn't seem to help my situation.

Most importantly I felt that this cream was too harsh for my skin and had a burning feel to it - marketing might describe it as a "refreshing tingle" but next time I want my face to "tingle" I'll put some diluted Icy Hot on my face.

Customer Review: PRORASO Goodness
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this, along with the Proraso shave cream. Both are very good products. Smells are great and the lubrication is great. My only recommendation would be to use plenty of water and have a brush on hand to re-lather. If you take a long time to shave, the pre-shave cream combined with the shave cream might get a little dry. This might happen with any product, but it has happened a few times with me. Once re-wet or re-lathered, you are back to the superior smell, feel, and lubrication of this great combination. Using this as a post-shave cream has definitely made me itch less, and have less redness on the neck. Just rinse off, apply the cream, and blot softly with towel. Very clean scent. I use this with a Merkur safety razor.

Customer Review: Overpriced Noxzema!
Summary: 3 Stars

I heard good things about this product, so thought I'd give it a try. It's definitely an effective pre-shave: lubricates nicely, helps prep your beard and the menthol/eucalyptus is a great wake-up. Still, the very first time I opened this tiny, expensive little jar, I immediately thought "Noxzema!" Honestly, it looks, smells, feels and performs exactly like that old-school product that probably already lurks under your sink in a giant blue jar. I now alternate between the two products, and can see absolutely no difference in their performance.

So yeah, this is my first and last jar of Proraso. At $9-12 for a tiny little jar vs $5 for an enormous vat of Noxzema, it's an easy decision.
