Customer Review: EA Velvet is more lovely than SJP Lovely

If RD Velvet is a fruity-floral, then it's a fruity-floral MUSK. It's just a tad powdery, and almost cloying sweet before it dries. I'm not fond of the opening cacophony of notes; it's very strange. But after that, it's like-like, maybe love. OK, love. I've been sniffing myself the last 4 hours and just reapplied - when dry, I could swear I sensed it ... yes, velvet.
RD Velvet is frequently compared to Lovely, Prada, and Rodriquez Her. While there are similarities, these are no smell-alikes. Let's take SJP Lovely. By comparison, Lovely is lighter, powderier, muskier, woody, somewhat linear, sugar sweet, clearer, and more synthetic. Velvet is heavier, more floral, cloying sweet, better quality, longer lasting, and slower to reveal its base. Although the patch & musk make the 2 similar when dry, the jasmine & vanilla in Velvet and the woods in Lovely produce different animals on my skin. However, on paper, RD Velvet does drydown to a distant cousin of Lovely. And, it lasts and lasts and lasts.
Velvet defies its Red Door lineage, and sampling is A MUST FOR PATCH & MUSK LOVERS. In particular, it's a sweet patch and an animalistic musk. I'm not a huge fan of florals, jasmine especially, but it's done at a level I can handle and basically disappears when dry.Smells much more expensive than priced imo, and I'm glad to have a full-sized bottle.
Velvet is lovelier than Lovely. So much so, that I got rid of beloved bottle of Lovely. Sorry, SJP - Velvet just took your place.
