I was a little disappointed to read the recent negative reviews. I've been using an F720 for three years and was very happy with it. Just bought a second, so following is a comparison.
OLD: Quality of shave is great, but I have a light beard and shave daily. Charge/discharge characteristics were excellent. Typically plugged it in about once each week without problems. (Also worked well overseas with 240V.) LED readout was very representative of battery charge. Slightly disappointed that battery performance began to drop off at the 3-year mark. (My long history with rechargeable shavers expects ~5-year lifespan before they are designed to make you buy another.) Still functional, but probably needs both batteries (clumsy & expensive replacement) and blades. So, I simply bought a new one on sale.
NEW: Quality of shave is still great. As specified in the instructions, it really does need a 24-hour initial charge. At the 2-hour point, LEDs indicated no charge. At 12-hour mark, LEDs indicated full charge, but it barely lasted through a single shave. After 24-hour charge, it lasted about three days. After a couple weeks of use, it seems to be up to four days. No clue whether it will improve further. Unfortunately, the LED readout is undependable. After three-four days, it will indicate 80% charge, then fail in the middle of a shave, plunging to 0%.
SUMMARY: There is no need to plug this unit in while shaving. It does charge reasonably well, and there is no great burden in charging every couple of days. The fundamental problem may be that Remington is either using cheaper batteries than original version, or perhaps they are still shipping units that were assembled long ago. Regardless of the minor problems, it does the basic job very well.
