Customer Reviews of Remington RPFS-100 Fuzz Away Fabric ShaverCustomer Review: OK...but use sparingly Summary: 3 Stars
This product worked so well when I first took it out of the box that I went a bit crazy and started shaving everything in sight! Then it suddenly stopped working completely (something another reviewer reported also); I assumed it was defective, and I put it to one side with the intention of returning it. About a week later I was going to pack it up for return; I pushed the "on" switch assuming it would still be dead, and it was working again! I've used it sparingly since then, and it seems to be okay (although I'm not pushing my luck!). I must admit it does a GREAT job when it's working. My recommendation is to use this product for short periods of time only, clean it out frequently, and not expect it to be "industrial strength"!
Customer Review: Wonder Machine Summary: 5 Stars
Pound for Pound, this is probably the best investment i have ever made. Considering that within days of purchasing this i was able to salvage 3 sweatshirts, 4 t-shirts, 2 sets of pillowcases, and an assortment of wool items, its already paid for itself. It does exactly what you need it to do - which is to literally shave unwanted stray fabric, lint, piling - whatever isn't supposed to be there, it eliminates. I have been using it for 2 months now and it works as well as the first day i bought it. I try to use it for 15-20 minutes at a time to avoid the complaints some have had in regards to using it for extended periods of time, but so far for what it is, its been a remarkably rugged piece of simple machinery.
Customer Review: Be VERY Careful With This Summary: 4 Stars
This product works...almost too well. You have to lightly...and I mean LIGHTLY...press it against the sweater to get the fuzzies off. If you press too hard you will suck the sweater in it and you'll have a pull in the sweater. I had read this in another review, so I made sure to be careful, yet I still got a couple of small nicks in one sweater. But I'm still glad I got it. I had a couple of sweaters that had little balls of fuzz all over them and it looks great now. But it took a little while b/c I had to go slow and make sure I didn't press too hard.
So, to sum it up, I'd recommend this product. But I'd do so with a disclaimer to be very, VERY careful.
Customer Review: HORRIBLE - even if you closely follow the directions Summary: 1 Stars
The first time I used this fabric shaver, I was pleased with the results. After that, it was all downhill. I've ruined two garments with it because I accidentally moved the fabric with my hand while I was shaving them (I did put the garments on a flat countertop as recommended). Do not attempt to use this shaver on any item that is draped, shirred, gathered or pleated. It will tear the garment, even if you carefully lay it out on a flat surface. You should also use caution when shaving around seams on flat garments. I would recommend using this product as a last resort only on items that you were otherwise planning to dispose of because of the pilling.
Customer Review: Pill Shaver Summary: 4 Stars
This product works almost as well as hand trimming pills off a sweater, but takes much less time, of course. Gentle touch is the key to not damaging fabric by cutting too deeply. I found the fuzz collector chamber to be difficult to remove because of the tiny buttons that must be depressed. Nobody's fingers are that small. Even though they assure that the collector won't accidentally detach during use, the design could be improved to make intentional detachment of the collector easier while still preventing accidental detachment during use. Because it does it's job relatively well, though, it earned four stars from me.
