Customer Review: Great Clipper to Maintain Short Styles
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Remington "Short Cut" hair clipper is, just as the name implies, for short haircuts. I had been considering going to a shorter style for a while, and thought this would be a good opportunity to move in that direction. So I gave it a shot and was pleased with the result.

The longest finished length this clipper will allow is somewhere between ¼ and ½ inch. The adjustable length comb has ½ inch teeth, but the curved blade comes up into the teeth some way, making the finished length of the hair less than the length of the teeth. The depth of cut is controlled by a thumb wheel.

Do not try to use this clipper if your hair has any length at all. If your hair is long enough to fall over on its own the clipper will just bend it over and won't effectively cut it. It is obviously intended to give an even trim to very short hair styles, with the hair standing up as it passes the blade.

As others have noted, this clipper will not take you to a short hairstyle, but it will very effectively maintain one. If you have longer hair, your best bet is to go to a stylist for the initial cut and use the trimmer to maintain the look. While it won't replace professional haircuts, it will reduce the need for them from 8 to 12 times a year to one or two.

The extendable trimmer works well for cleaning up edges and mowing around ears and other obstructions. You are still going to want somebody to help even-up things in the back for you.

The unit is relatively quiet, does not heat up like many clippers do, and fully charges in about 14-hours. One charge is plenty to complete a good trimming. The teeth and blade are removable for cleaning and the instructions say the unit can be immersed in water for cleaning (although I didn't try it).

You will want to do the trimming with a towel or other "drop cloth" around your shoulders and quite a few fine trimmings will end-up on the floor. When all is said and done the Remington Short Cut Clipper does the job, and will pay for its self with just a few missed haircuts.

Customer Review: Even my wife can't complain!
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't have a lot of hair, but what I have can quickly start to stick out in a distinctly unattractive Bozo-esque way if I don't keep it trimmed.

In the past, my wife would trim my hair, apparently one hair at a time, because it would take a long time and often involve either hair pulling (probably not intentional but one never knows), and one time the removal of the top of my right ear.

She would also never cut it short enough, so I'd start looking clownish a week after she'd cut it, and then have to risk my appendages again!

I read about this online and thought I'd give it a try and I'M SO GLAD I DID!

The box says, "You can't mess this up," and I figured if anyone could it would be me--but so far, I haven't.

You basically comb your hair and it cuts it. The adjustable trimmer keeps everything the same length and keeps you from looking like your were in a fight with Sweeney Todd.

One of the reviews here said it wasn't good for getting hair short--but I disagree--my hair was too long and this neatly cut it down to size. I've ever used it on my beard to keep it short and it's much faster than my beard trimmer!

I started out on setting 2, so it was short but not short enough that my wife would complain.

Then, yesterday, before my shower, I set it to 1 and let 'er rip. It trimmed a LOT of hair and in about two minutes my hair was very short--and even.

When my wife saw me she didn't say "What on earth did you do to your hair?!?" which she would have if she could have found any fault at all. Instead, she had me turn around, inspected me and went, "It looks good."

OK, so if a wife cannot complain about it, then you know it's good. Period.

There is ONE thing that isn't as good as it could be--the pop-out trimmer. I tried to use it around my ears and it really didn't do much. I ended up using my beard trimmer for that.

But the rest of it worked so well, so effortlessly (and quietly, it's not like some trimmers that sound like you've put a leaf blower next to your head), that I'm happy! Considering what a haircut costs, or the value of the top of an ear, this is a bargain!

Now I can use it regularly, keep my hair under control and avoid any clownish coiffure!

Customer Review: Great concept - but lacks in execution

I am always on the lookout for an easier way to shave my own head. I go close to bald (#1 setting or less) and using regular old clippers takes about 20 minutes and a lot of going over the same spots. I was hoping this would be "as easy to use as a brush" (as the ad says). It WAS easy to use. Unfortunately, it had a couple big flaws.

Flaw #1: Side of the Head Shaving. The curved blade that is so nice for the back and top of the head is useless on the side of your head just above the ears. This is the most important area for me to shave down because hair over my ears drives me crazy. Think about how a curved blade is supposed to get that area. It can't go vertical because your ear is in the way. It can't go horizontal because my head isn't rounded there. Maybe my head is the wrong shape, but it didn't work for me.

Flaw #2: "Tracks". If you've used a clipper before, you've probably seen the comb tracks left behind when using an attachment. Usually, I go over the tracks in different directions to even everything out. I could not get rid of the tracks using this Clipper. I looked like my head was striped! Maybe if I shaved to the lowest setting the tracks would go away?

So, after having two flaws that made these clippers basically useless to me, why three-stars? Because they work if you are looking for a longer cut. I used this at the "2" setting on my son and it cleaned him up nicely. The design and ease of use are really nice - I just wish it worked better on me.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking to clean up some straggling hairs on a longer crew/buzz cut - this could be the tool for you. Using it like a brush is a real time saver. If you're looking to go real short, I would have to recommend you stick with a traditional clipper (such as Conair HCT475 Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Pro Style Kit, 24 Piece ). I always end up using them to clean up after failed attempts with other clippers/razors.

Alas, the days of needing to go to a hair stylist - or even needing a comb - are long gone for me. I've been cutting my hair at home for years since I don't see the point in paying someone to cut what little I have left. I've used traditional clippers and they work well, but it's almost impossible to cut your own hair using regular clippers - you need someone to help, especially on the back of your head.

The Shortcut trimmer solves that problem perfectly. It's no harder to use than a brush. Just adjust the setting to the length you want, then move it slowly across your head.

It comes with two types of guides. One is for traditional hair cutting. The other is for shaving your head bald (or very, very close). You have to use the correct guide if you expect to get good results. The reviewer who had a problem with this clearly was using the incorrect guide. The manual explains this - always pays to take a minute to read the manual before using a product.

Very easy to clean. The blades are washable (although the unit itself is not) or you can just brush out the hair with the cleaning brush. Not too loud - about the same as a conventional hair clipper.

You get the best results if you cut just a bit at a time. For example, if you want to end up with 1/4 inch hair, start at the highest setting. After making a few passes , dial it down one notch. Repeat until you're at the length you want. Once you have your hair at the length you want, you can do a touch-up trim once a week to keep it at that length. Now that I have the hang of it, it takes me about 5 min to give myself a haircut.

It also has a trimmer for sideburns and around your ears. It cuts well, but it can be a bit unwieldy to use around the ears. I have a smaller trimmer that I use for that. The trimmer on the Shortcut does do a good job on sideburns.

So, with the caveat that you need to learn how to use it correctly, this is a fantastic product. Highly recommend.

Customer Review: An Oddly Useful, Convenient Clipper
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Truth be told? I ordered this for my cat. I admit it. But now I only use it on my head.

This has got to be one of the most interesting hair clipper ideas I have ever seen. It's certainly quirky, but it works, and it works well.

I have an Oster professional trimmer that I love, but there was one day at the end of the summer where I was in a hurry and didn't feel like unpacking it. I really needed a trim, so I took this Remington, which I had purchased, as I said, for my long-haired cat, and, having not used it on the cat yet, I tried it myself. I put on the plastic guide, set it on the "longest" hair setting, and went to town.

And it actually did a really good job. Seriously.

This is one of those products that you think to yourself, "what is this, the new version of the Flo-Bee?" and no one would blame you for thinking so. But I've used it on my goatee (or van-dyke, to be accurate) and it worked just fine. It has a sideburn trimmer on the side above the power button that does an amazingly good job. It's very accurate, solid, and I used it to do the close work on my beard with excellent results as well.

This is a device that you could really use every day if you wanted a fresh trim. In a couple of minutes, you're done. Look, this isn't a salon-calibre haircut you're going to get from this, but if you or your kids like really short hair in the summertime, then you're going to save a fortune on barber fees with this in the bathroom drawer. And hours of barbershop time.

Is it for everyone then? Not a chance. But this light weight, rechargable clipper will give good clean no-nonsense and yes, short haircuts that look good in no time, with just a few passes over your head, as if you were combing your hair.

Or, you could buy it for your cat. I'm still considering trying it on her, but I like having it around just for me, and the cat keeps giving me strange looks whenever I consider it...
