Customer Reviews of Remington Short Cut Clipper Rechargeable, Cordless, Haircut KitCustomer Review: Easy To Use But Only For S-H-O-R-T and S-H-A-V-E-N CUTS! Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The REMINGTON SHORT CUT CURVED CLIPPER is a brilliant idea for people who like to sport that shaved look, but not so good to trim hair on heads that want hair longer than 1/2 inch.
Its curved shape fits easily into your hand and allows you to move over your head like you where brushing the hair. There are 5-Blade-Settings 1/8-inch, 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", and the longest 1/2". And it includes two comb guards: one for the adjustable settings and one for bald cuts. The bald-cut comb fits over the blades and trims the hair completely off and the adjustable comb will cut the hair down to the length indicted on the blade setting. In other words, setting the blade to 1/2-inch will cut the hair down to only 1/2": meaning your hair will be 1/2" in length...so you'll have a buzz/crew cut.
You can rinse the trimmer in water and there's also a pop-up trimmer to clean up side-burns or the nape. And an LED low-battery indicator is on the handle, so you'll know when to recharge the unit. I recharged it over night so I don't know how long it takes.
The instruction booklet is pretty easy to follow and straight forward and it also provides tips on how to give a hair cut with the REMINGTON SHORT CUT CLIPPER.
So this clipper is great for people who like that shaved-head look and it'll probably replace regular shavers since it's very easy to use yourself. But it's not so good if you just want to trim hair for a regular/style haircut because it will cut the hair down to 1/2-inch! I recommend Flowbee Haircutting System for those types of at home haircuts.
Customer Review: You CAN Mess This Up! Summary: 1 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The tag-line for these clippers is "You can't mess this up!" Well, this company must think I'm pretty darn stupid. Because this really did not work well AT ALL.
When the clippers arrived, I plugged it in and charged it up. It looks just like the picture in the product listing, kind of a cross between clippers and a hair brush. It fits easily in your hand and seems like a much less awkward way of using clippers. As anyone who's used traditional clippers can tell you, they can be a pain to use on yourself, as you have to contort yourself in order to run them along the sides and back of your head.
When I actually used them though, my goodness! Awful! They didn't cut evenly, as the curved shape of the clippers don't accommodate the less-curved parts of your head, particularly the sides near the ear and the back of your head, where it's harder to see exactly what's going on. For these to work, your head would have to be a perfect sphere!
My wife absolutely cracked up when she saw how poorly this haircut turned out. After about ten minutes of amusement, though, it got just plain frustrating. We pulled out the traditional clippers and finished the job up in a few minutes.
Overall, these are the second worst clippers I've ever used. (The worst ones caught fire while I was using them. To Remington's credit, the Short Cut Clipper did NOT catch fire.)
I've used a number of clippers and hair grooming products over the years and have found a wide range of quality. These are very far on the low end. A great idea in theory, they simply do not live up to their promise. "You can't mess this up" indeed.
Customer Review: Terrible clipper; waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
I watched the video tutorials of the Shortcut, and read lots of reviews. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the bad reviews, since there were so few of them. I wish I had.
To begin with, this clipper will not fit every head type. If your head contours EXACTLY with the blades' surface, then you're very lucky. There is no way to know for sure whether it will effectively trim around your head, until you've bought it (which is precisely what you want to avoid).
Now, even if the clipper did match your cranial structure perfectly, as many other reviewers have pointed out, it does not cut hair very effectively. This means that you have to spend a lot of time cutting your hair. Normally that wouldn't be such a bad thing, except the battery on this device is atrocious.
The battery issue is the most important problem with this product. The fact that this trimmer is battery powered, already suggests that the motor is unlikely be as powerful as a wired alternative. This might not be a huge problem, except for the fact that the battery itself does not last long at all. It takes something like 16 hours to fully charge the device, but you'll completely drain it in less than 5 minutes of use! It doesn't matter how short you want to cut your hair if the battery runs out before you can finish up. This can be devastating if you're mid-way through your hair cut. It happened to me, and I had to go to the barber to get my hair fixed.
Conclusion: If you want to save money on hair cuts, buy yourself a wired clipper (Wahl has some excellent ones). Although the Remington Shortcut had a good goal, the clipper just doesn't work as described. Why did I give it one star? Because giving it any more might imply that it KIND of worked for me, or that maybe someone else might find it useful. A clipper either gets the job done, or it doesn't.
Customer Review: Don't fire your hairsylist yet Summary: 2 Stars
I still agree with my original review (below), but here's an update. I bought this product 1 year and 5 months ago. After the latest charge it failed in remain on for no more than 2 seconds. I consider it dead. I know it was only $35, but I expected more than a year and a half out of it, especially when it was only used every 6-8 weeks. I have other razors and trimmers that I use much mroe often that have lasted longer. I have owner a couple otehr Remington products and bought this one because I have always been pleased with their products. I don't know if I got a lemon or if this model in general sucks. I will not buy another one. I will go looking for a professional hair trimmer - a model used by hair stylists and not one marketed towards consumers.
I got tired of spending $25 for a haircut every 6-8 weeks for a really simple hair style. I went looking for hair clippers and came across this innovative product. I have used it for two haircuts so far and it has now more than paid for itself.
Some cautions, though. The battery doesn't seem to hold its charge long, so make sure to charge it the night before using it. Cutting one's hair is not as quick and easy as the ads lead me to believe. I have to go over my head very thoroughly over and over and even then there are still a bunch of hairs here and there that get missed and have to be clipped with scissors. Takes me about half an hour to cut my hair.
On the plus side, the different length settings are accurate and I can trim down to just the length I want every time. The product is comfortable
to hold and really easy to control. I am happy with this product and recommend it to any guy with a short haircut who wants to fire his barber or hairstylist. I can now cut my hair my way on my schedule for free.
Customer Review: A Good Buzz Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I keep my hair fairly short, so when I saw this product I figured it was worth a try. My first impressions were good, the packaging was easy to open, and the trimmer felt light and comfortable in my hand. The product comes with 2 combing guides, a cleaning brush, some oil for the blades, a charger, and an instruction manual (which was a bit confusing to read). I was disappointed that the product did not include a case to hold the trimmer and accessories, and that it took a long time to charge fully (16 hours).
After charging it overnight, I attached the adjustable guide comb and set it to the highest setting, which gives a ½ inch cut (be warned that it comes with the balding guide already attached). I quickly went over my entire head, since the cutting blades work forward and backward. I then used the #3 setting to trim the sides, which gave me a tapered look, similar to the cut my barber gives me. I've used the trimmer twice so far and it's already paid for itself.
One thing that is a bit of a nuisance is that the cut hair tends to clog the blades, making it necessary to clean out the loose hair periodically. The unit does come with a sideburn trimmer, but that feature is not very functional. It's difficult to get the right angle when using it, so instead I use my Wahl compact trimmer for the sideburns and around the ears.
This product does a good job for its intended purpose. It gives a nice short buzz cut, quickly and easily. I subtracted one star because of the few shortcomings I mentioned above.
