Customer Reviews of Remington Wet 2 Straight 2" Wide Plate Wet/Dry Ceramic Hair Straightening Iron with TourmalineCustomer Review: My first flat iron experience Summary: 4 Stars
I've got strange mixed Asian/Caucasian hair that's really long, fine, soft, and wavy, but also golden blonde (of the porous and dull variety). I'm generally lazy so when necessary I usually blow dry my hair for the 45 minutes it takes to dry it completely, but it's never straight or shiny. My sister irons her shiny brunette hair that I always envied as a kid, so about six months ago I decided that I'd buy a flat iron and try it out, but never got around to the actual purchase. One day while at Target buying toothpaste I thought I saw someone I knew but didn't wish to encounter, so I ran off to hide in another aisle. Standing before a wall of flat irons, I recalled my decision to buy one and ended up with this Wet-to-Straight. I grabbed some heat protectant, and when the coast was clear, I got my toothpaste and left.
The next day, after I showered, I sat around for about 20 minutes with a towel on my head, combed out the tangled mass, applied my heat protectant, and started quickly running pretty big chunks of hair through the iron, which I'd set at 25/wet. Looking back on it, I don't know how I didn't end up burning myself into oblivion. I just kept my head tilted so my ear faced the floor and pulled my hair downward, alternating quick strokes with the iron and my giant hairbrush. A few strands caught here and there, but I regularly slam my long hair in doors and roll it up in car windows, so this was no big deal to me. As with blow-drying, my hair got weird and wavy/frizzy when it was half-way dry, but as I kept going, rapidly brushing/ironing huge chunks of my hair, it turned out really straight, soft, and smooth, but not at all shiny (this is as good as it gets for me). I couldn't reach my roots, but since my hair is very long and there is a lot of it, it weighed itself down and dried just fine. I think it took about 25 minutes total, compared to the 45 minutes it takes to blow dry. Later that day I walked outside in the humidity, into a frigid air-conditioned mall, and then got caught in light rain while running to my car. My hair didn't frizz or curl or move at all in response to these various environmental conditions. It remained limp and lifeless, which is what I was going for.
I don't really know how the temperature of my blow dryer compares to that of this flat iron, so I can only guess that I'm doing similar rather than worse damage to my hair by only using the flat iron rather than both the blow dryer and the iron. I think that if used regularly it would be a good idea to deep condition on a weekly basis.
Customer Review: Not great, not horrible. Summary: 3 Stars
I have long, thick, wavy hair that becomes an unmanageable mess if I don't straighten it! Prior to this straightener, I used to spend about 30-40 minutes blow drying my hair & another 20 minutes straightening it. I'm pretty happy with the results I achieved after using this straightener. I towel-dried my hair (that's it!!)& put the straightener to work. The fizzling sound of the steam escaping from the straightener is a bit alarming at first & you feel as though you're listening to your split ends forming as you straighten. I think using a heat protector on your hair first will make you feel better about this. After going over each strand of hair multiple times, I noticed that the hair was actually drying. It was still damp in parts, but dry for the most part! All-in-all it took about 25 min. to straighten my hair and about 5 minutes to go over it with a blow dryer after to get everything completely dry. Therefore I cut down on close to 30-40 minutes of time!! Like I said, it's not perfect, and it's hard to get all strands completely dry, but it's nothing a little 3 minutes of blow drying won't fix! I purchased this to take on a cruise because I know blow dryers in hotels & cruises are really weak & would take me at least an hour to dry my hair, so I know this will be a great help!
Pros:
Cuts down on styling time
Digital Temperature gauge is pretty darn cool
Heats up really quickly (about 2 minutes to highest setting, 30 seconds to medium/low setting)
Cons:
You still have to blow dry a little bit
Hard to get the roots of hair straightened
Still a bit of frizz
Steam coming off of straightener can be reeeeally hot (you get used to where you need to put your fingers & how you need to hold the straightener but you learn the hard way!)
Customer Review: Great time saving product! Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried several straightening irons and this one by far works the best. I have been using it for about 6 months now. I have thick curly/wavy hair and could NEVER let my hair just dry by itself, it becomes a frizzy mess.
I am suprised that many people say it works better with dry hair which I find the exact opposite. I usually use it on wet/damp hair which I feel sets the straight in. If you want good results you have to be patient. If your hair is course and curly there is no way going through your hair 3 times is going straighten it, that's unrealistic. I normally set the iron on 25 and use it on wet/damp hair in sections running it through about 5 times, combing it in between every couple runs, making sure it is completely dry. I get great results, some people even think I was born with straight hair it is that straight! I only use the iron maybe 1-2 times a week cause using that much heat on your hair everyday will damage your hair no matter what product you use. I recommend using Maxius Beyond Straight for frizz and humidity control and Maxius The End for shine and protection.
I was a bit skeptical at first thinking ironing it wet would really damage my hair but I have found that I get more damage by blow drying my hair than I do with using this iron. Think about it, blow drying and THEN straightening? You're doing double the damage. I am trying to grow my hair longer (its almost to the middle of my back now) so I get my hair trimmed every six weeks and usually by that time I can see the split ends and know I am due for a trim. With this product I can wait a couple weeks longer for a trim.
Before it took me atleast 20 minutes to blow dry my hair and then another 35 minutes to straighten my hair. With this iron I can do them both in about 35 minutes.
Customer Review: just ordered it havent used it yet Summary: 3 Stars
so im not a kid, im actually 15 and i have been straightening my hair since the seventh grade. i have very thick, medium-long hair and it is very wavy. i have used many different straighteners: hot tools, wigo, chi. the chi worked the best because it heats up to a very high temperature, the other two are basically useless and make my hair look greasy.
i just wanted to say [...] on this product, straightening irons are NOT magical devices. do you really expect your hair to become pin straight after running it through the iron three times? you are obviously in a dreamland. my hair usually takes me an hour to do and it usually takes me about 10-15 minutes to straighten each layer of hair. also, "my hair becomes wavy/curly when it is humid or rains" [...] ITS NOT THE STRAIGHTENERS FAULT, EVERYONES HAIR GOES BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STYLE IF IT IS HUMID OR RAINING. its a simple fact that if there is moisture in the air, your hair will not stay straight.
also dont expect to get pin straight hair when straightening your hair wet. if you have moderately wavy a/o thick hair, you have to let it naturally dry and then straighten to get the best results. obviously your hair will become frizzy or wavy when it dries if you straighten it when its wet because there is still moisture locked in your hair.
thats all i have to say right now. when my straightener comes, i will write a review on how well this product works. as a frequent straightener and 4 year user of straighteners, i think i know more [...] on how to get the best results when straightening your hair.
Customer Review: Shocking!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I'd never flattened my hair before. I knew there were $1000++ irons out ther, but having NO idea what I was doing or if I'd even like it, I refused to spend that much. I found this at Wal Mart for $25. I have very thick wavy layered hair that generally doesnt hold much of anything, curl or style. So trying this was a big gamble for me. When I got home at the end of the day I tried it, not really being serious about it as I only had a few minutes-- I was grabbing giant chuncks of hair to experiment and I was SHOCKED when roughly 10 minutes later ALL my hair was completely straight. I aboslutely loved the look. Day two, I get out of the shower, towel dry and start ironing my hair...again, maybe 15 mins from shower to straight & dry and I'm done. This is simply shocking to me...especially since I have thick longer(past shoulders) hair. Day three I timed the actual ironing process....11 minutes. This is shocking to me as when I actually DO my hair, it takes forever.
This has been an absolute PERFECT solution for me as I don't function in the mornings and can barely remember to wear pants, let alone actually do my hair. I'm always rushed and this honestly takes me about 10 minutes to make my hair look really awesome. Whether or not it's going to damage my hair with repeated use, I don't know. I plan on upping my conditioning treatments to make sure it doesnt ruin my hair with constant use. I can't imagine it's GOOD for my hair, but we'll see. It is only hair...it grows back, right?
For $25 at Target or Wal Mart (likley cheaper on Amazon or Ebay) I'd 1000% recommend.
