Customer Reviews of Revolutionary, Patented SLEEP MASTER Sleep MaskCustomer Review: Pros and Cons Summary: 3 Stars
This mask has several pros and cons. I recently lost it, and have decided to go back to the Tempur-Pedic mask, which I LOVE: http://www.amazon.com/Tempur-Pedic-Sleep-Mask/dp/B0027OUUFW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1295654367&sr=8-4.
Pros:
1. It's large and blocks out light quite well.
2. It also blocks out a little sound, which is nice and comforting.
3. It doesn't bulge out and doesn't have any straps that could irritate your ears or prevent you from sleeping comfortably.
Cons:
1. The edges of the mask around the nose were fraying (on the first night) just enough to make me think there was a hair near my nose. It was so bothersome, and I finally figured out it was the edges of the mask fraying slightly. Even after trimming the frays, it feels like there's someone bugging me with a feather as I'm trying to fall asleep - crazy making!
2. This mask is so smooth that it actually slips off in the night. It's difficult to get exactly the right tightness that doesn't put pressure on your entire head, but doesn't slip off from being too loose. Most mornings I woke up to find the mask was off.
3. It does keep your head quite warm, which I didn't mind. However, an unwanted side-effect is that your hair gets an indentation that is pretty annoying - even after a short nap.
Ok, good luck! All in all, these masks DO help me sleep much better. I lost mine 2 nights ago and haven't been able to get a good night's sleep since. I'm going to order the Tempur-Pedic one again, though. It's my favorite so far.
Customer Review: Nice concept, poor construction and materials Summary: 2 Stars
I read all the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this sleep mask however in my experience, the mask fell short.
The pros:
- The size is nice and large to completely block out all light (unless it shifts... more on that below).
- The material is soft and smooth.
- The strap is actually part of the whole unit and easily adjustable with the velcro for a snug fit.
Now for the cons:
- The eye area of the mask should be convex a little so when you tighten the mask down, the material doesn't press up against your eyelids.
- Because the material is SO smooth on the inside, if you shift around in your sleep, the mask will slide around your head. It would be better of at least the back part of the strap - the part that goes around the back of your head - were made of a courser material so that it didn't slip as much. Because of that, the mask is useless... the cutout for your nose will end up being on the side of your face and then light comes in.
I would say that if you toss and turn throughout the night, then this is NOT the mask for you.
I would recommend the Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask - the eye cups curve outward to take away the pressure on your eyes, the strap is a little more sturdy and the padding around the eyes conforms to your face. (Although I would recommend buying it from the Relax the Back local store - they sell it for around $30 and you can try one on.)
Customer Review: An Exceptional Product. Exactly As Advertised. Summary: 5 Stars
This sleep mask works exceptionally well for me. It provides a perfect environment for deep, quiet and restful sleep, including my favorite pastime, relaxing daytime naps. I purchased the mask a few weeks ago partly because of the overwhelming number of five star reviews, plus the money back guaranty from the seller. I was also intrigued by its shape and design, which is so unique in a market glutted with ordinary sleep masks. On the high end, the frilly (and silly) sleep masks/sleep aids that promise you nirvana usually don't work as advertised and cost an arm and a leg, while this mask is reasonably priced and highly effective.
I had some fairly high expectations ahead of its arrival a few weeks ago, and I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed in the least. Some of the other reviewers mention the fit being an issue, but this mask is different than what they are probably used to, and it can take time to get acclimated to having it wrapped around your head during sleep. If you're undecided, I would give it a chance. It took me a couple nights, but once I got used to the feel and effect, it really enhanced the quality of my sleep, and I could definitely tell the difference. For me, sleeping with this mask feels more restful, blissful, which is priceless. The mask fits comfortably on my head throughout sleep, blocks the light and dampens sound, exactly as advertised. I am very pleased with this purchase, and heartily recommend it to others.
Customer Review: My New Best Friend! Summary: 5 Stars
This sleep mask is so AWESOME that I feel like I have a new best friend. Sounds silly maybe, but I kid you not...I live and work in a noisy chaotic environment. My parents knew I was having trouble sleeping (runs in the family), so they sent me a Sleep Master (they and their friends have used them for years, exchange them as gifts at the holidays, and have always sworn by them). Well, quality sleep is precious to me, so I'll give anything a try, right? What a joy it was to put this sleep mask on and feel so relaxed and ready for sleep. It's been my best friend ever since!
It's hard to describe the feeling I experience when I put this sleep mask on and get ready for sleep. The first effect of the mask is to prepare you mentally and physically for a positive sleep experience, rather than having to work hard at it. People who have trouble sleeping should know what I'm talking about. Sleep should be easy and carefree, rather than feeling anxious about falling asleep, and staying asleep. The mask relaxes me, quiets and dampens my senses, and encourages me to fall asleep (and stay asleep) by creating a positive environment for quality sleep. I sleep more deeply; waking up feeling rested and energetic. The mask is extremely comfortable, and has many different ways in which it can be adjusted to fit your personal preference. I can't ask for anything more in a sleep aid, so this product definitely gets 5 stars. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
Customer Review: Not good for mold allergies Summary: 1 Stars
I am allergic to some molds. After about 4 days of wearing this mask, I started waking up with a stuffy nose. When I stopped wearing the mask, the stuffy nose went away. Very few sleep masks list the materials they are made from or provide washing instructions. I like the Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Travel Pouch - Black because they list the materials: "closed cell foam and nylon that is washable and quick drying." I did some research on the internet and found that while most foam does harbor mold, inside where it can't be seen, closed cell foam should not.
I don't keep my eyes closed all night, so I sometimes woke with very dry, uncomfortable eyes when wearing this mask. It felt as if they were in contact with the mask.
This mask also lets a little light in around the nose. Most of them do on me. The sound muffling feature (something sewn into the area over the ears) does not make much difference and makes the mask hotter to wear. The slippery fabric seems to make the mask slide around more than the others I have tried. I once woke to find it on the floor by the bed.
I have to say, it was comfortable to sleep on my back, and the mask is very large so it covers a lot of my face. It would might be good for someone with a larger face and no mold allergies.
