Customer Reviews of Revolutionary, Patented SLEEP MASTER Sleep MaskCustomer Review: Not Revolutionary Summary: 2 Stars
If you are only interested in this item because it combines noise reduction with light reduction don't bother. The noise reduction offered is hardely noticable. The ears have the same amount of padding as the entire unit does. You have to keep taking it off and on and concentrate to notice any sound difference. The package itself includes ear plugs. There is not even enough noise reduction to quite someone lightly breathing next to you.
This item does block out a lot if not all light. It is comfortable (the material is slick). It does seem durable. The closure is in the back and is velcro. It is slightly uncomfortable to lay on the velcro portion. There is no stretch or give to this mask so I find it more comfortable to have it slightly loose (too tight and your ears will feel like you've been wearing headphones for a while and your nose will feel restricted). I thought it would be warm but the material is breathable enough I've not noticed much temperature difference.
I don't think I would have bought this item if I had one to sample first. For the price and claims I was expecting better noise reduction. Not enough to block out snoring but at least enough to block out a fan or light breathing. I am keeping it as it is comfortable, blocks out lots of light, and my partner snores enough that I usually have earplugs in anyway.
Customer Review: Great product... Summary: 5 Stars
I got the product and loved it. I have the most annoying skylights right over my bed and in the winter the moon just shines in like a flashlight right on my face. However after a couple of weeks my pillow case developed the brown stain that everyone is referring to here. I also set the mask on a magazine one day when I got up and that same night when I went to bed, the brown had come out on the magazine cover but it was really oily looking. I don't know if it's the oils from the body/sweat interacting with something or what. Anyway, I found that by using a spot remover on the stains and a lot of non-chlorine bleach that after 2 washings the pillow case was as good as new (thankfully since they're the most wonderful Lands End flannel sheets!).
I've also found that every week or other week I hand wash the mask per the directions along with the non-chlorine bleach and that pretty much mitigates the staining. Over all a great product as long as you know in advance to wash it frequently (which makes sense when you think about how much time it spends next to your body) and you're not a back sleeper. I find that on the rare occasion I sleep on my back (the Velcro enclosure is right behind the head) it gives me a nasty headache in the morning but that's maybe once a month. Despite all of this, I still wear it every night!!!
Customer Review: Optional attachment Summary: 1 Stars
I read a lot of the reviews and thought maybe at last. So I wraped it on and lay my wittle head down to sleep. Zzzzz Got up in the middle of the night (never mind why!) and it was still in place ... hmmm ... so far so good. Zzzzz 6:00 am light creaps around the edge of the curtains ...Zzzzz. 7:00 am ... Sugar plums ... Zzzz 8:00 am ... Zzzzz 9:00 am ...Blink! Pulls pillow over face ... pitch black again. Too late brain begins to tremble, what the heck? Removes pillow ... yah that's light alright, must be leaking at the nose.
Crap, knew I should have just painted my swim goggle black and saved the bucks!
Frustration subsides ... pressing around nose, higher, then lower with eyes open under the patented silky smooth material. Realization setting in ... this is a great material, it blocks about 80 to 90 percent of the light. Unfortunately the other 20 percent woke me up! Argh! Stupid designer! Patented my arse! Rant ... old mask, new mask ... junk, junk I tell ya!
Brain trembles again ... put old mask on underneath and achieve pitch black ... Zzzz. Cleavah man ... except, you do realize I can never, never tell my wife how much I paid for this. Of course if discovered, I'll tell her the new one was an optional attachement I bought for the old mask. All will be well.
Customer Review: So good, I'm buying a second and third Summary: 5 Stars
With inadequate blinds, and a bedroom window facing east right near the bed, the sun was starting to burn my brain at my old apartment a few years back, making sleep all but impossible right after dawn. I also enjoy a good nap in the daytime from time to time, and it became quite clear to me that I needed a sleep mask of some sort. I did my research, and the sleep masks I was familiar with, those flimsy cheap things with the little straps, just wasn't going to cut it. Luckily, I found the Sleep Master. This thing is just as advertised, a mask that fits perfectly to the head, blocking out light, particularly at the nose area, that so many other masks fail to do. Instead of a strap, this thing has fabric all the way around, so it stays on your head while you sleep and contributes to reducing ambient noise. Mine also came with earplugs, but I don't use them. They're the foam sort, that conforms to fit your ears. The thing is very comfortable, I feel naked sleeping without it. I like the thing well enough that I'm buying another two today. Due to forgetfulness on my part, I've nearly lost mine a few times traveling, so I'm buying more so I can leave one behind at home, have one to travel with, and keep a third in my car. If you're looking for a sleep mask, this is the only sleep mask worth considering.
Customer Review: Nearly Perfect - Still Good Enough To Get Summary: 4 Stars
I've used these for a few weeks and am generally satisfied and can recommend this sleep mask having used a few. Here are the pros and cons as I see them -
Pros:
* Keeps 99% of light out - even in a bright room
* Feels comfortable on the face; Haven't had any problems with hurting ears or mold allergy as other reviewers reported
* Does help muffle external sounds, but doesn't not completely eliminate ambiant noises
Cons:
* There is that nagging 1% of light that sneaks in from around the nose; unless you have your eyes open though I don't see how you'd know it was there - I only did for testing purposes.
* The mask is adjustable, but does need to be firm against the face to keep out the light - when tight it can press uncomfortably against the eyes; might be better if the area around the eyes were recessed somewhat to provide some clearance; it hasn't caused me to stop using it.
* This mask is huge! Prepare to be soundly laughed at by spouses, friends, etc. Even on a man's face it's quite large. Reminds me of my Floridian grandparents "old people shades". Still I don't mind sacrificing fashion for a good sleep - which is what I'm getting.
If you're on the fence I'd go for it. I haven't regretted my purchase at all.
