Customer Reviews of Revolutionary, Patented SLEEP MASTER Sleep Mask

Customer Review: Best Sleep Mask tried
Summary: 5 Stars

This Sleep Master Sleep Mask is the best sleep mask I have ever worn. Given that it is very wide, it covers the eyes very well, so you can't see any light at all. Also, it is made up of a satin fabric that makes it very comfortable to wear in your face. It is very soft, so it doesn't leave sleep marks on your face. I recommend it very much.

Customer Review: sleep mask
Summary: 3 Stars

It is OK. I find it is hot especially for women who get flashes during the night. I woke up and my hair was soaked. I think I would prefer one not so bulky. It does keep the light out !

Customer Review: This product works... usually.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an ALMOST perfect product! The amount to which the problems outweigh the benefits for you, depend on problem issues I've discussed at the end of the review.

Anyway, I've never met a lighter sleeper than myself. It's hard for me to get to sleep, and it's hard for me to stay asleep. The slightest noise or tiniest light source wakes me up and keeps me awake.

When describing the SleepMaster, I can hardly improve on the company's own words: "Sleep Master is a simple, affordable, one-size-fits-all product. It's comfortable, light-weight, breathable fit and amazing effect quickly induces deep refreshing sleep."

Indeed, that sums it up. But here are some personal reflections from my year of practical nightly use at home and on the road, as I travel a lot by plane/train.

First:

The mask is highly practical. It easily folds to fit into any toiletries kit, pocket, or just about anywhere else you care to put it. It's also stain resistant and washable, and dries quickly. (I personally have not had issues with the mask leaving any stains, as others have).

Second:

The mask does what it's supposed to: it blocks out light and it HELPS to block out sound. Obviously, if you're very sensitive to noise like me, then you'll have to use earplugs as well which I always do. (I use Physician's Choice Silicon earplugs, which are flawless. They must be changed each week as they get dirty, so buy in bulk).

WARNING: With the earplugs, the mask then offers a nice second layer of sound protection, and you may find that not even your alarm wakes you up! So place the alarm next to your bed and make it loud!

Third:

I have found the mask extraordinarily comfortable. To keep it from sliding around, you have to set it pretty tight. Normally, that would bother me as I have very sensitive skin. But the mask is extremely well designed, so it feels real nice and stays fairly cool and breathable, even in summer.

Being tight it can put some pressure on the eyes, but I find if I experiment I can find just the right place that it stays in place and doesn't make me uncomfortable. You also don't have to undo the velcro each time - just slide the whole mask off your head in the morning, and slide it back on at night.

Allergies & Light Seepage:

Two issues I noticed in some of the reviews, was problems with allergies and also light coming in, (as it does with every sleep mask), around the nose cut out. Having horrible allergies and asthma myself, especially to molds, I sympathize with those that have found that a problem. However, in using the same mask for over a year, and now with a new one, I have not had this issue. I wash mine about once a month, and make sure it is totally dry so it won't mold up. Maybe that will help for these people.

As to the light coming in around the nose cutout, I did have this issue but I solved it easily - I just wear the mask upside down! I adjust it so the point of the "V" of the nose cutout is directly above the bridge of my nose. That way, no light leaks in from the top, and no light leaks in from the bottom either. As for it sliding out of place, I tend to move around a lot when I sleep, but each morning the mask is right where I positioned it the previous night.

In Summary:

I've taken this mask all over the world on travel, and it's always performed perfectly in every situation. It's also made me a huge hit on flights, as people always want to know where I got it. While everyone is pulling out their tiny, flimsy little masks, I pull out the Sleep Master and get ready for some much needed Zzzzz. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if Sleep Master's biggest customers are flight attendants!

Problem Issues:

So why not give the product a glowing 5-Stars? The newer (blue) models available now are not holding up for me, unfortunately.

While the older (black) model I used for a year had started fraying at the seams after only a few months of nightly use, the newer (blue) model I received as a replacement started fraying over the entire area of the mask after just a few days of use. SleepMaster was terrific about it and replaced the mask right away on two occasions, but then the new one started fraying as well within just a few days. And this wasn't just fraying... the whole mask was completely deteriorating.

I talked repeatedly to SleepMaster about the issue, and they were great about it... for a while. They said they were very interested in the detailed feedback, and promised to search around for a fabric that might not have the problem. But they also said that I was the only person who had reported having this issue. And that if I had "a very scratchy beard," then this would cause the problem. Then... they stopped all contact, and have stopped answering any of my periodic inquiries as well.

This is a shame. I don't have a beard, and I shave in the mornings like I assume most men do. And this is a TERRIFIC product, potentially, and one I need and enjoy. However, if a scratchy 5 o'clock shadow will cause the mask to deteriorate, then the mask is useful only for women and younger people.

As it stands today, I'm back to using my original mask, and just hand-cutting the frays off every few weeks or so, or burning them off carefully with a lighter. But over time, it's gradually falling completely apart. I'm hoping very much that another company will pursue this idea and come out with a non-fraying, more durable mask. I could sure use one, and judging from the responses I get on this one when I travel, there are a lot of other people could too!

David S.

BTW, if you ALSO have this problem, PLEASE WRITE SLEEPMASTER AND LET THEM KNOW! Don't just toss the mask in the trash, disappointed. Let them know. They are easily contacted through their website, very kind and responsive, and if they know this is an issue then they can do something about it.

Customer Review: May work for some...
Summary: 3 Stars

I have to say it really blocks the light, however the product was a little uncomfortable to wear. It made my head warm. The adjustment to either make it tighter or not in the back was a little bulky. It's best used when lying on your side. The earplugs did little to cut out the noises. All in all, I was a little unsatisfied with this product. For it's price especially. It may work for some, but it did little for me.

Customer Review: Awesome Product...
Summary: 5 Stars

This product has helped me sleep and saved my marriage! It is comfortable and blocks out all light while allowing you to sleep through the night! Ear plugs are a plus, the softness of the mask is amazing.
