Customer Reviews of Sacro Wedgy Female Version

Customer Review: such a good idea, such a simple thing
Summary: 5 Stars

I am 37 years old, female. I had a severe head-impact car accident many years ago. I currently have (for the past 2.5 years) a constant clamp-like pressure headache which my doctors and physical therapist have found to be caused by the dura mater being pulled downward on my head. The dura mater reaches down to the tailbone and we need to release soft tissue adhesions (like trigger points) in my legs to release the headache. We've already released some of it this way. (Yes, it took many wrong tries to get to the right diagnosis of this one....)

My PT recommended the sacrowedgy last summer, for me to lay on as a stretch. I do not do that much now, but I use it whenever sitting for any length of time. Previously the clamp-like pressure feeling on my head would worsen much while seated: gravity and/or soft tissue problems in my legs pulling my tailbone down thus pulling the dura down more, even though I did not understand this then. With the SW pushing up on my sacrum, my head pressure does not worsen nearly as much while seated. I can sit for longer periods of time.

This purchase was my second SW -- I accidentally left the first one on a plane. I made a temporary one out of styrofoam before I bought this one. The real one is better though. I have had it 3-4 months and am on it whenever in the car, playing piano, watching TV, or working at my desk.

"Dural tension" is becoming a new perspective in patient examinations. I think many conditions related to the back, brainstem, and even the brain, will improve when excess dural tension is relieved, that is, when the dura mater is slackened a bit. The SW does this in the simplest, most unobtrusive way possible. Even when my headache is gone, it will be a mainstay on my office chair and in my car.

Customer Review: Caused tremendous pain for me! If suspected arthritis, beware!
Summary: 1 Stars

I had high hopes for this product and believed that perhaps it could help me find a bit of relief with my SI joint pain. After using it and experiencing INTENSE pain with pressure on the SI joint, I believe that I either have a small fracture or some sort of arthritic condition where this product would not work for me.

I believe if muscles are involved (or other soft tissues), this would probably be a great option. I am experiencing more advanced SI issues most likely due to several knee reconstructions in the 80's and differing leg lengths (my postulation). The pain has been really, really rough and I bought this device out of desperation thinking that perhaps some kind of adjustment might help. I was wrong, this device caused a tremendous amount of pain for me and I had to return it.

If you have soft tissue issues, this would probably be great. If you have degenerative issues (as I am discovering I have), this could potentially do more harm. Before purchasing, just understand what issues you are working with in your SI joint. In sum, great for soft-tissue issues but not so much for anything degenerative.

For my issue, 1 star.

UPDATE: After a Lumbar/Sacral MRI it was discovered I have facet syndrome and disc degeneration. This was not the right option for me. Keep that in mind if you buy this product. You may find the product SPINAL STRETCH Portable Back Pain Relief which I use and have reviewed.

Customer Review: GAVE me a backache
Summary: 1 Stars

I too bought this product based on the reviews and then looking it up on the net. It did not work for me and, in fact, made my back feel worse.

I have a history of back pain. Mostly in my sacrum and in particular my psoas muscle. When I started using it my back was in pretty good shape (after a year and a half of serious stretching and massage therapy). But like the the sacrowedgy people say, best to deal with the issues before the hurt sets in (I am paraphrasing), so I set myself on incorporating it into my daily back routine. Morning and night starting with 5 minutes each time and increasing that time each day and backing off if it hurt.

At first when I was sore I was thinking that I just needed to get used to it. But by week three I found myself in nearly full blown back pain again. I wanted to attribute it to something other than the sacrowedgy, but lo and behold I ditched it from the routine just to make sure and the pain slowly subsided.

I know this may be the answer for some and I fully understand the desperation to relieve back pain. It left me bed ridden and hopeless for a while. But, if you buy this and find it is causing the least pain, by gosh do not be stubborn and foolish like I was and just pitch the darn thing!

Customer Review: WOW! Helped back pain & intestinal problems!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm 29yrs. old and have broken my tailbone 4 times since I was 6yrs. old. Fun right? I thought I was just going to have to deal with the pain of sitting for the rest of my life, since the bone never healed correctly. A chiropractor would actually have to enter my body (I'm trying not to be too graphic), to "crack" the bone back into place each visit. Not something I was comfortable with. I saw this little device and thought anything was better! And it is great! I knew I sat funny, as to not actually sit on my tailbone (because it hurt) and this thing let's me sit how I should without the pain! It is a little uncomfortable at first, but only because my muscles & bones had to get used to being in the correct place. And the added bonus is my intestinal problems are getting better too (again trying not to be too graphic). This product is fantastic. If you have ever broken a tailbone, have hips that are out of place, or just plain old back problems - give this a try!

Customer Review: Didn't Fit!
Summary: 1 Stars

So there was nothing in any of the description to let you know which version of the Sacrowedgy you should use. Even on the manufacturer website it alluded to some women "might" need the male version. Well, I'm not THAT tall. I'm around 5'7" tall. Well, I get the sacrowedgy and try it out and never can seem to get it positioned correctly after reading and re-reading (several times) the directions. Then I notice the small statement on the box, "some taller "(5'7"+) females with a longer, more narrow torso may do better on the male SW".

Ok, so that was the first place anywhere that it actually gave sizing. And even then it's very unclear as "may do better". So basically I'm on the border of the "female" version isn't working, and I don't really have a narrow or long torso either. But now I will have to pay to ship this item back to amazon and try the male one. But it could be that neither version is going to fit my body.
