Customer Reviews of Salter 914 Electronic Baby and Toddler ScaleCustomer Review: Junk Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this scale to keep track of the weight of my cat, who is a little overweight. Our vet recommended a baby scale. I ordered this Salter Model because it got quite a few good reviews.
However, if I could give this scale a rating of zero, I would. It just plain doesn't work. When my cat was at the vet last week, she weighed 12.2 pounds. I tried to weigh her several times on this scale, and she consistently weighed 5.6 pounds. And, she just curled up in the top cradle, so she was fully cooperating. It's just ridiculous that something this simple shouldn't work properly. I kept checking to make sure I had it on the "LB" setting, as I just kept thinking I was doing something wrong.
I did contact Amazon customer service, and they issued a pre-paid mailing label so that I wouldn't have to pay for return shipping. Thank you Amazon for such great customer service.
Customer Review: Fine for Ferrets Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this as a means to better monitor the health of a variety of small animals including ferrets, cats, small dogs, and others. As such, I only use it with the tray (the bear face looks a little creepy for kids to stand on anyway). I find only one minor fault, and that is the battery compartment, which could be designed a little better. Other than that quibble, it seems to be functional, accurate, and reliable.
Now if I could just keep our resident Siamese cat to quit using it as a bed, and a storage place for his favorite stuffed rabbit. Anyway, it seems to be a great scale for the money, and is rated fine for ferrets, capable for cats, reliable for rabbits, dependable for (small) dogs, capacious for chipmunks, and suitable for a Siamese. It is also rumored to be useful for a certain species of juvenile primate which I am told some people like to keep in their homes.
Customer Review: Excellent scale for Newborn Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this scale because I like to keep track of my son's weight. My wife and I weigh him every Saturday morning and keep track of this like my mom did when I was born.
The scale is very easy to use and prompt with the results as well. I like the fact that you can put they baby on their, weigh him and press "hold" and take him off the scale before he starts getting to annoyed of lying on it. Once he is up in my arms again, I can get the results of the display and put it on the sheet for tracking.
The scale also lets you put clothes and diapers on beforehand to "zero out" the added weight and you'll only get the true weight of the child.
I appreciate the fact of being able to switch back and forth between grams and ounces since I am European and want the metric weight but my wife, being American wants the weight in ounces.
Customer Review: Better than the Vet's Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this scale so I would be able to weigh my cat daily to help her lose weight. I was very impressed to find that I could put a pen on the scale, and it would maintain a steady reading of .5 oz. I never could have done that with either of the cat scales at the vet's office where I worked (granted, they'd put up with many a wiggly cat and puppy in their time). As long as my cat stays reasonably still on the scale, the reading only fluctuates by +/- half an oz, making it easy to get a relatively precise weight. The scale turns on immediately when the "on" button is pushed, and zeros within a few seconds. My cat is happy to sit on the scale for a few treats.
On another note, the green rubber things intended for the toddler scale function make great laptop props if your computer has an overheating problem like mine does.
Customer Review: Great for peace of mind Summary: 4 Stars
My baby was born several weeks early and developed jaundice, which made him very sleepy and difficult to nurse, so he left the hospital underweight. I was told if he gained his birth weight back within 2 weeks and an ounce thereafter he would be fine, but as I breastfed it was hard to be sure how much he was getting and weighing him was an accurate measure. However, the cost of repeat weigh ins at the doctor's office for my peace of mind were a tedious venture.
Thanks to this accurate and easy to use scale I have a way to moniter his weight easily and efficiently, plus I love how the scale transitions into a scale with a "bear" face for young children (they stand on the "eyes" and this is a great interactive way to get a toddler to stand on a scale). Soooo glad I bought this and at an amazing price for the product.
