Customer Reviews of Salter 914 Electronic Baby and Toddler ScaleCustomer Review: Excellent Scale, Easy to use, Very Accurate Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this scale for my grandson, who has an illness that requires very careful monitoring of his weight. He is watched by his great grandparents frequently, so ease-of-use was critical. This scale does it all, and is easily used by both us and them, monitoring his weight to 1/2 ounce consistently, every single time! The best feature is the tare function. You can weigh the baby, hit the zero-out button, then as you change him, put the soiled clothing back on the scale so you see the BABY's weight automatically, without weighing the clothing, etc. It is VERY easy to use and makes weight tracking effortless. His 83-year young grandpaw can do this trick every time, it's that easy and quick!! Great price on a great product that is, in this case, life-or-death accurate. Couldn't ask for more or better.
Customer Review: Accurate weight, but too small for tall babies! Summary: 4 Stars
I recieved this scale in the mail today, which worked out well since my son just had his 4 month check up this morning and was weighed at the Dr's so I have an accurate weight to compare it to. This morning at the Dr my son was 16lbs 10oz and on this scale this evening he was 16lbs 8oz so I feel it is really pretty accurate. However the scale does NOT come with batteries as stated on the amazon.com listing. I had to run out and buy batteries because i was so excited to try it. Also the baby bed needs to be longer. My son is only 4months old and his legs hang off completly so I worry in a few months his length and half half of his body hanging off the scale will make the weight inaccurate. So this scale might not be good for taller babies. My son is 26.75" long.
Customer Review: Peace of Mind Summary: 5 Stars
This scale works really well and is an accurate method of weighing a little wiggly baby. To date, we've only used it on the newborn to 4 month age range, but it has been an invaluable tool in gauging our grandbaby's growth progress. Our grandbaby lost so much weight after birth that she was classed by the hospital as a "failure to thrive" infant. This scale has brought the peace of mind of actually being able to accurately measure her progress as she steadily regains her very serious weight loss and rapidly moves into the realms of normal weight for her age.
I highly recommend this scale as a gift for breast feeding moms! This grandmother is very happy with this scale and better yet, so are the momma and poppa who use it!
Customer Review: accurate and easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
The Salter 914 scale readout is repeatable, and as far as I can determine by comparison with other, more precise scales, my copy is accurate to +/- 10 grams (which is its readability, or last digit). That is actually surprising for a consumer product. Generally you should always center the weight on the scale, but placing a 6.53 kg weight anywhere on the tray (that didn't actually tip it over) does not shift the readout more than 10 g. The weight readout is stable even with some baby limbs waving around (have not tried to weigh a vigorous fussing baby). All of these factors point to a high quality design. Cheaper scales may have the same specs on paper (max weight & readability) but not deliver the stability or accuracy.
Customer Review: didn't work. inconsistent weights all the time Summary: 1 Stars
I was really looking forward to this item when reading the reviews on here. Seems like most people were satisfied with this product. I am usually an easy to please person but honestly this product did not work for us. After getting weights that were a little off, we decided to just weigh a diaper, then some clothes and a diaper. The clothes + diaper weighed less than the diaper itself. It just didn't make sense. Two times that we weighed her before the doctors office naked, the scale was 3 oz less than the doctor's. The third time we did it, our scale was above the doctor's. And then a fourth time, it was quite off. And this last time, it was under but by just an ounce. It changes all the time. We returned it. Disappointed.
