Between the low setting and the medium setting there is a large difference. I have not even listened to the loud setting. The medium setting is very loud to wake me up. I would recommend moving the Screaming Meanie across the room so that way it won't be too loud by your ears (trust me it is loud enough). Also one thing I like is that it is complicated somewhat to turn off the alarm (it requires three different buttons to be pressed at the same time)! So it makes you actually alert enough to turn it off, which helps when waking up. Although I do wish that the buttons to turn the alarm off were not some of the same buttons to set the clock (I always end up changing the time when I am turning the alarm off, but then again I'm half asleep at that point so that could be why).
