Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher Gel, Lemon Scent, 42-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

Customer Review: The only Seventh Generation product I don't like
Summary: 2 Stars

Unfortunately, the Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher gel needs to be reformulated and re-released. It's the only product from the company that I don't like and won't buy again until it's "fixed".

When it comes to environmental friendliness, this company is at the top. I have most of their other products and have been crazy happy about them, but not this one.

Like many reviewers have mentioned, you almost need to wash your dishes first before putting them in the machine with this gel. My dishes come out feeling greasy, still having spots on them, and often still having basic food items stuck that would have normally been cleaned off by leading dishwasher gels.

I have tried using prewash with additional gel, as well as going completely overboard and putting 3x the amount I should into the dishwasher. Same results - unclean dishes that have to be washed again with a different type of gel.

My recommendation is to skip this product and check out the other Seventh Generation items which are much higher quality (toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent), but wait on this one until it gets a complete reformulation.

Customer Review: Milk drinkers beware of this product.
Summary: 1 Stars

I am a pretty big fan of most all the seventh generation products including their laundry detergent so naturally I wanted to try the dishwasher liquid. On first use it seemed to work fine but after 10 loads I have to say I am extremely disappointed in this stuff. Simply put it doesn't do it's job. Specifically protein residues such as milk solids left on glasses, cereal bowels and silverware as well as other dried on foods simply don't come off. And no I am not talking about "spots" like jetdry kind of spots, I'm talking food residue. I'm a dude, I don't give a rip about spots but food residue I do care about. I have a very good dishwasher and the dishwasher packs I was using prior to this worked as advertised and did not leave food residues. And I never "cleaned" my dishes before putting them in the machine (last time I checked thats its job). My guess is that the surfactants in this product are simply not strong enough. I am all about some green products but they have to actually work. Guess I'll keep looking for a green dishwasher detergent that actually works.

Customer Review: Not Sure What Happened - Used To Work
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, we switched to more eco friendly products. Method and 7th Gen. are the products we use now. The cost of these items is prohibitive for what you get and what it saves from getting into the environment. In other words - it's worth the price!

However, this detergent just does not cut it. We used 4 bottles and all was well the first bottle. Second bottle things were a bit spotty and dirty. We chalked it up to dishes being too dirty. However, as time progressed - we basically had to start washing our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. No thanks.

After switching back to Cascade - it seems our issues have been "washed away" so to speak. No problems.

I am all for saving the environment and eliminating harsh chemicals - but - when I have to waste more to get the same results - it's not worth it. If 7th gen. comes out with a better/reformulated product - I will try it again. Until then, I will have to stick with Cascade.

:(

I love your products 7th Gen!

Customer Review: Feel-good product with slightly filmy results
Summary: 3 Stars

I have to agree with several of the other reviewers, where I do feel better that we are using a product that will hopefully cause less stress on the Earth -- and on us -- even if it might not clean as thoroughly as other eco-friendly products. (Since we got our dishwasher we have only used eco cleaners in it, although growing up my mom used Cascade powder which I seem to recall did an OK job in cleaning but was probably chemically bad for us as well as the Earth.)

I loved, loved, loved Method dish cubes but they are not be making them anymore which is a shame; cleaned well and came in easy-to-use cubes and weren't cheap but were environmentally friendly -- bleach-free. As a second choice, though, this product is OK. The lemon scent is fine. Some dishes when loaded too closely together get slightly filmy, although never the whole load and not enough to run the spotty few through twice.

Customer Review: Seventh Generation Dishwasher Gel Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I love, love, love this product! It is all natural, no nasty chemicals, and doesn't harm the environment. It does cost a little more than the conventional, chemical ladden products out there, but Seventh Generation does a fantastic job. I haven't changed anything I do with this product, meaning I still rinse my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher (not wash) and I still cram my dishwasher to the fullest capacity (because I detest hand washing!). Even with a crammed dishwasher full of dishes, this product did very well. I paired it with the environmentally friendly Seventh Generation Rinse Aid and you're good to go. If more people bought these environmentally friendly products, it would drive up demand and the cost would come down. My only complaint is that one bottle leaked in the box during shipping. Still, I highly recommend this product.
