Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher Powder, Free & Clear, 75-Ounces Boxes, Case Pack, (Pack of 8)

Customer Review: I'm hooked!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally decided to get with the program and switch all of my cleaners over to natural products that were environmentally safe. I ran into the "GreenWise" display at my grocery store and saw the Seventh Generation products. After reading the info on the box, I promptly put the Cascade back up and picked up a box of SeventhGen. I was very skeptical, but I was determined to do something right for the environment. How surprised and pleased I was to see how well this product works!! Buy it with confidence :) I will be buying my next box(es) from Amazon!! Great price for the lot!!

NOTE: We have very hard water full of sulfur and minerals. I made sure to follow the directions on the box completely, and that includes the advice of using a water softener (aka Jet Dry or Cascade Clean Rinse) to make sure there is no left over residue on the dishes. So for those of you with exceptionally hard water..make sure to use the water softener, and adjust your water softener dispenser to a slightly higher number (releasing more softener into the rinse) to make sure it works well.

Customer Review: Poor results, cloudy glasses, use EcoVer instead! It works GREAT!
Summary: 1 Stars

We have been switching as many products to eco-friendly products as we can find available. We really like the Seventh Generation paper towels and toilet paper, but the dish detergent fails the test.

After about a month of use, our glasses started getting cloudy with a white film on them. We tried reducing the amount of detergent, as suggested in these reviews, but no change, they just got worse as time went along. Also coffee cups were keeping a light brown film, indicating they were not getting fully clean.

We switched to Ecover with instant and outstanding results. Instantly the glasses were spotlessly clear, coffee cups were sparkling clean. And the tablets are easier to use and use less packaging than Seventh Generation. And the packaging is recyclable. We also bought Ecover rinse agent and got rid of JetDry with excellent results.

Want a great eco-friendly dishwashing solution and rinse agent, get Ecover instead of Seventh Generation. Amazon offers it.

Customer Review: Doesn't clean my dishes
Summary: 1 Stars

Unless the dishes are perfectly clean before going into the dishwasher, this detergent doesn't work. It didn't clean my tea cup, which Cascade does. It didn't remove a bit of cake residue on a glass pan; of course, after the pan has been through the entire dishwasher cycle, and the brown bits are still stuck to the pan, they are much, much harder to remove.

Sorry; I tried to be "green". But if I have to run a lot more hot water and use a lot of soap in the sink to perfectly prewash each and every dish before I put it in the dishwasher, that's not too green, either. And since the dishwasher is supposed to be a labor saving device, this soap is causing it to become a more labor intensive device. I cancelled my automatic shipment option on this, and I'll be forced to go to one of the "big box stores" and stock up on Cascade.

Don't waste your money.

Customer Review: Great, but have to follow directions
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this product. It cleans very very well and is great for the environment and my family's health. However, if you have soft water you MUST fill the cups less than full to have it clean effectively and remove all the powder residue from dishes. I also think the reviewer that speaks about product getting old on the shelf is onto something. I have problems more often when it is an older box that seems to have taken on moisture...the box clumps up a little and I have to shake it to break it up. Those seem to be the times I have more problems with some powder remaining. When I use less than half a compartment full it seems to clean the same and leaves no residue. Occasionally I have a tapered sippy cup or glass that needs rinsing out just to be sure, but if that is all I have to do for my part in helping the health of my family and the environment then I can do that.

Customer Review: I've used this for over 5 years -- prefer to Cascade
Summary: 4 Stars

I try to be a good environmental consurmer, but I won't use a natural product that doesn't work. I've used Seventh Generation for over 5 years in a new dishwasher, and have had no problems. I have a septic system now, so I don't like to use bleach, but even when I lived in a city, I used this stuff. I've run out a couple times and had to use Cascade for a day or two (I live in the country -- they don't stock this stuff here) and my dishes were no cleaner than with 7th Gen. which is way better for people and the environment.

I have read that dry dishwashing powder can get bad if it is old, so I only buy two boxes at a time. Perhaps the reviewers who've had problems are using old product. I think it absorbs moisture when stored under your sink, and may then clump in in your DW.

I use vinegar in my rinse-aid container or Liquid Jet Dry.
