Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Baby Diapers, Stage 4 (22-37 Lbs.), 30 Count (Pack of 4)Customer Review: Our choice, next to cloth Summary: 4 Stars
Used cloth diapers for the first year of our daughter's life, but gradually moved over to disposables (could not get the stink out of our cloth!).
Like:
- These are chlorine free and are natural-colored (not bleached). HATE the artificial, perfume scent they add to commercial disposables and these don't have that. Probably does not make a huge environmental difference in the long run (cannot believe the sheer volume of garbage we have now that we are using disposables - yuck!), but using these 7th Generation diapers was the best we could do once we gave up the cloth.
- Like buying them here on Amazon with the Subscribe&Save + Amazon.mom discount - they end up costing the same as they would if I was buying generic brand diapers in the store!
Dislike:
- They are not SUPER absorbant, which is fine for us because we were used to cloth, which you change more frequently anyway.
- Also, the fastener tabs are not very strong and occasionally come undone overnight. Twice, she has ended up wearing jammies full of poop because her diaper was basically off.
Overall: Still love these diapers though - as much as you can like disposables. Like them better than Earth's Best and Nature's Baby Care (both are chlorine-free brands).
Customer Review: The only diapers I will ever buy! Summary: 5 Stars
If I could put my allergic, excema-prone son into cloth diapers, I would. But these unbleached disposable diapers are WONDERFUL. I also like that they don't have licensed cartoon characters on them; what a waste of ink. I switched to these after the new Pampers Dry Max gave my son a terrible, bleeding diaper rash; I know it wasn't an excema flare as his diaper area was the only place NOT affected his excema at the time. He's been in 7th Gens for a year, and almost never gets a diaper rash; they even handle well overnight. I recommend them to all my friends and have been buying them for baby shower wishing wells.
About the only bad thing I have to say (which I did not have to worry for very long about due to a formula change right around the time I switched diapers) is that if your baby is on a vegetable based formula such as Nutramigen or Alimentium and/or is breastfed and usually has very loose bowel movements, these do not have an upside-down pocket that other disposables have to help catch runny poop going up the back of the diaper.
These are also comparable in price, and sometimes even cheaper than buying Pampers or Huggies. I get the best price on Amazon, even better than diapers.com.
Customer Review: Better than most diapers Summary: 4 Stars
I tried many different brands of diapers. This one is better than most of them.
Pros:
1. Although the outside shell of the diaper feels more like paper and rougher than a lot of commercial brands (Huggies, Pampers), the inside is pretty soft and certainly softer than Earth's Best.
2. It does not come with the cheesy cartoon characters.
3. It is chlorine free.
Cons:
1. It is not as green as many people think. The brown color of this diaper is dyed, not natual. Earth's Best is also chlorine free and it is a lot whiter without the brown dye.
2. It contains moisture absorbing gel just like Huggies, Kirkland Signature (Costco). On the other hand, Earth's Best uses wheat flour and corn starch.
3. The size runs small. Size 5 Seventh's Generation is slighly shorter than Earth's Best Size 4.
4. It is not as soft as some brands such as Huggie's Pure and Natural (Huggie's Pure and Natural is made of organic cotton and is the softest diaper I tried. It is more expensive than Seven's Generation or Earth's Best).
Despite of its cons, I am still going to buy these diapers over the rest brands for the combination of its characteristics.
Customer Review: Diaper Rash Summary: 1 Stars
I was ready to fully commit to these diapers.
I have been a loyal Seventh Generation customer for the last few years, and have been using exclusively their products where they exist... I decided to use their diaper for my 10 month old son who had never had a diaper rash. He got a diaper rash within a few days after we started him on these diapers. I did not even think it could be the diapers, and suspected from other causes (the new food he started on, etc). His nanny suggested using another diaper for a few days to test if it was the diaper. I was sure it was not the case, but decided to give it a shot. And yes, the rash had stopped after switching to a different brand (we tried both Huggies and Pampers). I thought it was coincidence, and went back to Seventh Generation again. Within a day, my son got another diaper rash.
We are using Huggies now, and he has not have any diaper rash ever since. Of course all remaining Seventh Generation products went to trash.... I am sure it is the specific batch that has some type of manufacturing error, but I would not expect than from Seventh Generation, and will no longer use any of the Seventh Generation products.
Customer Review: Tried the rest and I chose the Best! Summary: 5 Stars
In a perfect world, I would be a cloth diaper mama, but for various reasons I'm not. But that doesn't mean I don't worry about my carbon footprint, or how environmental toxins affect my children especially when it comes to diapers.
I love that these diapers do not have that awful "diaper scent" to them. What is that...chlorine, petroleum, something worse? Anyway, the worst is when baby pees in one of those other diapers and you can smell what I am talking about. Seventh Generation Does Not Give Off That Smell. I have also noticed that these diapers seem to pull away from his skin as soon as he wets them. Last thing I will add, and of course this could be due to his being a little older now (21 months); After a few months of completely switching to SG Diapers, I noticed he was no longer having any rashes. He never had any major rash problems, but he did have some skin sensitivity and would react accordingly. I always had rash cream on hand to get through those times, but I gave the last tub away, and he has not had ONE problem since the switch.
I feel very good about these diapers, and for our next subscribe and save I plan to order the Seventh Generation training pants/pull-ups.
