Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Glass & Surface Cleaner, Ruby Grapefruit & Herb Scent, 32-Ounces Bottle (Pack of 8)Customer Review: My Favorite Cleaning Product Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have been trying to switch over from regular cleaning products to the environmentally friendly chemical free products. I have extremely sensitive skin and almost all cleaning products are painful to me when I come in direct contact. I have been told repeatedly to wear gloves while cleaning, but hate the feel of rubber gloves, so dummy me I suffer through.
Lately my grocery store has started carrying the Seventh Generation products, so I first purchased the Seventh Generation All-Purpose Cleaner, Free & Clear, 32 Ounce Bottles (Pack of 8) that they offer and loved it. When I saw Amazon was offering the Ruby Grapefruit and Herb Scented version, I jumped at the chance.
We go through spray cleaners very quickly in this house and it gets expensive having to buy one separate ones for separate tasks and surfaces. I have two very large dogs that come in and out through a sliding glass door. To let me know there intentions they paw at the door. This leaves the glass dirty all the time and as a result I am forever washing this window. This morning I did it and it's only about 20 degrees outside, I had no problem getting the frozen mud off the bottom of the door.
My husband is a little obsessed with spray cleaners and uses them for everything. Simple things that can be wiped up with a dish rag (like water) have to be sprayed. If I would run out of the counter cleaners he would grab the glass cleaner to mop up a mess on my oak kitchen table. This would drive me crazy as all the chemicals in the glass cleaner dry out and ruin the wood. Now that I have the Seventh Generation cleaner I don't care where he sprays it, he uses it on my oak kitchen table, and I haven't noticed any damage.
I use it on my stove, the sinks, the kitchen table and all the windows. It works fantastic and smells so good. I don't have to worry about the harsh chemicals flying through the air or my son or dogs coming in contact with it. At my grocery store I pay $4.99 a bottle, through Amazon it is more than a dollar cheaper. It costs a little more than the normal cleaners, but being that its environment, animal and people friendly, I think it is more than worth it. I love this product and so do my hands!
Customer Review: Is a Good General Purpose Cleaner Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This cleaner is billed as a substitute for cleaners that contain ammonia and other fun chemicals. The question for any cleaner must be how well it cleans. This cleaner works well as a general purpose cleaner and does a great job on glass.
I have used this cleaner on mirrors and windows, sinks, and toilets. I am pleased to tell you that this cleaner works as well, and maybe a little better, than the Windex I usually use, as long as the mirror or window has light dirt or grease. I was also pleased at how well the cleaner worked on my sinks and toilets. Again, as long as the sink or toilet required minimal cleaning, Seventh Generation worked well. Since we clean our house regularly (at least weekly), this cleaner was an excellent substitute for the myriad chemical-based cleaners we usually use. I was even able to clean our vinyl floors with this cleaner and was mostly successful.
As with other, non-chemical-based products, this cleaner does have limitations. I am unable to identify the kind of grease and oil that this cleaner has a hard time with, but it seems that heavy concentrations of grease or oil and some kinds of dirt are immune to this cleaner. Fortunately, I encounter those kinds of contamination rarely, so reliance on alternatives such as Scrubbing Bubbles, Windex, and other sundry products I can keep to a minimum.
I have also come to enjoy the unusual, vaguely fruity flavor of the cleaner. The smell is less harsh than chemical-based cleaners, though I would not describe the smell as mild during and immediately after use. I do consider the smell to be inoffensive to my nose, a significant difference from some chemical-based cleaners.
This cleaner is advertised as non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, has no dyes, and is biodegradable. I am unable to confirm the accuracy of any of these statements, but I am sure they are true. Given the general state of our planet and the difficulties our communities are facing with water treatment, I believe a cleaner that works for general purpose cleaning that is free of chemicals known to be harmful to our environment has to be a very good thing.
I will be happy to purchase this cleaner in the future, and you should be too.
Enjoy!
Customer Review: Does Most Jobs Well - a review of the 7th Generation Glass and Surface Cleaner Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Like many here, I like the idea of supporting a company that is pro-environment. On the other hand, I'm not willing to fork over good money for something that doesn't work. So when the 7th Generation Glass and Surface Cleaner came along as part of the Vine program, I went to work trying to figure out if it was worth my money.
The first test subjects were the glass doors that lead out onto the deck. As they sit under a tree, and as they are the principle egress for my two mud-babies, I can say that they were absolutely filthy, and thus great test subjects. The results of the test showed that the Glass Cleaner did a good, non-streaking job. It even removed what looked to be surface mildew from the rubber seal around the doors. What it did NOT remove were some of my son's handprints. I don't know what it was that he had been into, but even HARD scrubbing did not remove the prints. In order to be fair I got out my Windex and tried it, and the print was finally removed, but not without more scrubbing.
The next test subject was the glass stove top. Unfortunately it was not as greasy as normal. The 7th Generation Glass Cleaner did well except for one mystery spot. Aha! I said, and got out the Windex. That didn't work either, so I got down the Lysol cleaner. It did NO better. I then began to worry about what my husband had done to the stove top. Finally I got down my Fantastic. It really didn't do much better on whatever it was, and eventually I had to scrape the gunk off with a razorblade.
The final test subjects I actually expected to the be the easiest to clean: the various reading glasses we have around the house. Well to my surprise, the 7th Generation cleaner did a miserable job. Whatever grease it is that lens' accumulate was impenetrable and the glasses remained smeared and uncleaned. Go figure.
Three Stars [C+] ::: I think this glass cleaner compares favorable with it's competitors, with the caveat that it does not cope well with certain types of grease. I plan to add 7th Generation to my arsenal of cleaners. I prefer it's subtle scent and I'd rather use it rather than other chemical laden products when possible.

Customer Review: No irritation or residue. We will be using this from now on. Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My wife has asthma or asthma-like reactions to irritants such as alcohol and ammonia. Even Dawn dish soap does horrible stuff to her hands--so they rash, crack, and bleed as a result, so we buy a Japanese brand of dish soap at a higher cost. She's from Japan where even oven cleaner doesn't require that you air the room to use. Over here, medicines are harsh, as well as detergents, solvents, and the like--but not this Seventh Generation Glass & Surface Cleaner.
My wife noted in particular that it's less irritating than orange cleaners--that is, biodegradable degreaser and such made from oranges. Even I, who am not over-sensitive to these irritants, found it to be a lot milder on me while not sacrificing cleaning effectiveness.
Besides that, the scent is fresher without being too fragrant or having a powerful perfume or fruity odor.
As for the "Seventh Generation" tag, I must confess I have no idea what that refers to. Is it made out of recycled materials? Is it made from ingredients that would normally go to waste? We have no idea because we didn't read the label. We know that we use it, it works, and that we like it better than Lysol, Windex, and other cleaners which are far harsher on the peron using them than they need to be to get the job done. Tilex is the only cleaner here that we've found to be irreplacably useful.
BOTTOM LINE: Put plainly, this stuff works on dirt and grease without being toxic to the person spraying it. While you might see this on the store shelf and think it's made by and for aging hippies or die-hard environmental activists who would sacrifice performance for propoganda, it's actually a far more pleasant option to popular name brand cleaners.
My cleaning maniac wife who would use gasoline or whale oil to clean if that were the best option has already tossed the half full spray bottle of Lysol 4 in 1 she had been insistant upon until now.
You don't have to join Greenpeace to use this stuff, and it works as well or better than the usual suspects.
Certainly worth a try.

HOW DID IT CLEAN?
- Mirror plastered with toothpaste splotches from kids flinging their spittle while brushing. The dried spots came off without a hitch! Cleaning bathroom mirrors were a snap and no streaks!
- We have floor to ceiling mirrors in the bedroom that get finger-prints upon finger-prints. Again, no streaking and a simple one spray and wipe to clean it all up
- I have no idea if this is one of those cleaners that will strip the anti-glare from a computer monitor, but the kid's monitor plastered in finger-prints and smudges. I sprayed a cloth, wipped the monitor and didn't need to scrub to get the finger-prints off. It left a nice clear monitor screen.
- Used it to clean the toilets. I have three small boys who I'm still training on how to aim right. So it was a great pleasure to see the urine on the toilet and floor were picked up just great.
OTHER FEATURES:
- The fruity scent is a wonderful replacement to the typical chemical smells of all other cleaners. . . .especially in a urine sprayed bathroom that the little boys share
- We don't have allergies, but to know that this product is less harmful to those with allergies is a plus. Also in a day and age where it seems more and more people are having health problems, here is a product/company that strives to not add to all the other "bad" things out there
- I gave a bottle to some co-workers who are VERY environmental safe and they were excited. They told me they love the produts from this company and have always had a good experience
- One of the first products I've found where water wasn't the first ingredient. . .but the last! About time to get a non-watered down product
OVERALL:
Even though the product is touted as a glass/surface cleaner, it cleaned much more than that and did it well. It is a far superior cleaner than Windex in my opinion. I'm a convinced customer who is going to keep my shelf stocked with this product for years to come
