Customer Review: Adequate, but can't be the only cleaner in the cabinet

Those of you whose concerns are 'green' above (and exclusive of) other considerations will probably love this product. The ingredients are completely natural, and there are neither fumes nor any elements which would contribute to pollution of any kind.

With that said, I shall confess that, though I certainly have environmental sensitivity, this product would not be the only one I could have in the cupboard. It has no ingredients which fight mould or fungus, as I would assuredly want for bathroom cleaning, nor does it have ammonia's effectiveness on greasy or soiled surfaces. I was relatively satisfied with using it for small jobs, but I frankly am still undecided about whether the effect was much beyond what one might obtain from just using a cloth dampened with water, with a drop of soap for good measure.

I love aromatherapy, and had been hoping that the oils and herbs would leave the flat with a hint of delightful scents. Actually, during immediate usage the only scent was a very slight tinge of grapefruit, which disappeared in a moment. I had been considering reducing my usage of products based with bleach or ammonia, if only to keep the cat from inhaling any fumes, but, though I'll use Seventh Generation for minor cleanups, there remain some where only bleach or ammonia will do the job.

On the plus side, and even apart for environmental concerns, this product should be highly useful to those who have allergies or sensitive skin. There are no ingredients which would cause irritation to the skin or respiratory system. I used it for several hours straight, and felt absolutely no effect on my skin - and the cat, who runs for cover at the scent of my usual cleaning products, explored and slept undisturbed.

I applaud the efforts of Seventh Generation to protect and conserve the environment, but there are heavier cleaning jobs which are better accomplished with stronger products.

I first became aware of Seventh Generations products by accident. An article in our local newspaper was discussing how to avoid the etching you get on glasses when you wash them in a dishwasher over time. The article mentioned this was primarily due to high levels of phosphorous in the detergent, and mentioned Seventh Generation didn't have any. I went out that same day, found myself some SG and have used it ever since.

So I was most curious about this product. While I'm not particularly sensitive (yet!) to the various chemical compounds that seem to part of daily life, I am aware of several people who are. Moreover, I think I'm fairly representative of many Americans who are not necessarily environmental activists, but are somewhat uncomfortable with all the chemicals floating around out there and want to do... well, *something*. Does switching to this product qualify as "doing something?"

More important, does it actually work, so I'll continue to use it--and continue to "do something?"

Fortunately, yes and yes. I've seen no adverse reaction from friends with low tolerances for dyes, perfumes, solvents, etc. If you are particularly sensitive to these substances, allow me to introduce your new family of cleaning products. Better still, this tree-hugging, bleeding-heart cleaner gets the job done. The first job I tackled was cleaning up a long-cooking beef stew that had boiled over and cooked onto the stovetop. It came right up--score one for SG. Next was cleaning the kitchen windows. No streaks whatsoever--score two for SG. Third, the inside of the microwave. Score three, game over.

I might still pull out a heavy-duty stuff for really deep cleaning, but for now this is our go-to cleaner.

Customer Review: Great Smell, Great Results
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm always dubious about environmentally friendly cleaning products which I usually find are a "trade off", non toxic, all natural being good for the environment on the one hand, but lacking the real cleaning power of more traditional chemical based products on the other. I cannot name the most popular brand of Window and Glass & Surface cleaner here, but THIS product is as good, if not better, and the added bonus of the aforementioned hypoallergenic, non toxic, and safe ingredients make it a winner. I have used it on glass, countertops and most surfaces in the house with great results. It is particularly good on granite counters (I have very dark countertops) and leaves a completely streak free shine. As others have said in their reviews this is not a "One cleaner does everything" product, and for this fact alone I have kept the rating to 4 stars. However, I have used it with other more traditional products to remove heavy soiling first, and then finished with this, on surfaces including range tops, Formica counters, and even toilet exteriors (not bowl) with great results. The natural ingredients have a wonderful fresh citrus, herb and natural smell, leaving surfaces that actually "smell" clean (even if that sounds strange.)
A daily cleaner I can use on almost everything that smells great, doesn't seem to react with other cleaners, and is perfectly safe, especially with small children in the house, has to be good. The cost differential when taking all this into account I feel is also not a factor, we can all do a little to help the environment, here is a good place to start.

Customer Review: Streak free glass and a healthy environment

Before I start I will have to say that I was very skeptical of the claims that are made by the company for this product. Keep in mind in my view a decent all natural glass cleaner already exists.... it is called vinegar and water! So with this in mind I conducted my review... is the Seventh Generation product better than good ole vinegar and water? My answer.... yes - it really is!

The Seventh Generation product does a very good job cleaning glass surfaces and leaving them streak free. It also leaves a very pleasant scent - not overpowering - but a fresh light grapefruit aroma. Vinegar and water stinks...or at least in my opinion.

As a multi-purpose cleaner the product is effective - but definitely not on the scale of a Formula 409 (I know... 409 is MUCH more harsh and not pet friendly - but I am trying to establish a baseline). I would rank the Seventh Generation product slightly ahead of soap and water (however - Seventh Generation has a separate product for "multi-purpose" use).

Next is the issue of cost - while Seventh Generation products are more expensive (roughly 40-60%) than its non-natural competitors it is not so expensive to keep us from buying. If you go through 4 bottles of glass cleaner each year the Seventh Generation products will set you back an additional $10 - not too bad for al natural product that you can feel safe having around your home.

FInal verdict - from an environmental and cleaning perspective I see the Seventh Generation products as a product that we will continue to buy and use.

Customer Review: A Healthier Approach to Clean Glass
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I decided to try this product because I have a hard time keeping the insides of the windows in my car free of film that attracts water vapor that fogs my view. I used to try to keep the interior glass clean with elbow grease alone. Why? I don't like the smell of traditional glass cleaners. I'm also a highly allergic person, and I would end up sneezing for days after using such glass cleaners.

I was intrigued to see if a glass cleaner without highly volatile ingredients would be an improvement over my elbow grease while keeping my driving sneeze-free.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this product is an excellent glass cleaner and I had no allergic reaction. I plan to keep a bottle in my car at all times in the future.

The only problem I had initially is that I couldn't figure out how to make the sprayer work. The squirter hole seemed closed. So I tried to use a pin to open it up. That didn't work. Eventually, I noticed some virtually unreadable print on the outside of the sprayer top and figured out that I had to twist the sprayer into the "on" position from the "off" position in which it was properly set. So watch out for that. Once twisted the sprayer worked just fine.

Get a better view and encourage a cleaner environment!
